4 miles for me tonght puts me at 87/110 for the month.

I actually met a new person who moved to my area that did their first marathon this month.

I thought I was completely alone as far as adult athletes go in my town.  She has only been in town a year or two but wow who would have thought.

Hey Smashing Pumpkins,

Just checking in after being out of town. I missed one session while I was gone, but plan to make it up this week. Other than that right on track to the finish! Is there halloween candy at the end?

Keep on running on...

Kathy- How long have you been wearing Newtons? That must have changed your running style. Can you tell us a bit about your experience with the Newtons?

KathyG - 2009-10-21 11:37 AM

Be careful adjusting how you run. Older you are harder changes are on your body. I went to a seminar on running put on by my old coach and was told I was a big heel striker...do this and that drill and try doing this running. Within 2 weeks I ended up with plantar faciities and then achillies issues. I battled with them on and off for 9 months and now 2+ years later I get the same issue.

Our bodies run way for many reasons.

Funny about a year after I went through all this frustration I read an article or book by Friel that said if you are over 35 or maybe 40 don't change your running style as your body often doesn't adapt well. Yah that is what happened to me.

I invite folks to run, swim, bike, waterski, hiking, snowski, windsurfing, surfing, racquetball, roller blading, etc. , everything.  Typically this is the most sedantary scardycat community I have ever lived in.  The kids won't even try anything new that includes going fast in boats.  They won't even come tubing behind my boat.  My 4 year old has more self-motivation to run and be included in outdoor activities than 99.9 percent of the community.

But ya I did invite her over for a run and a swim.  I have a really scenic 8.5 mile run with 1300 feet of elevation gain and awsome views.  Ya I don't get too many bites on that one.  But hope springs eternal.

What to wear for my duathlon on Sun as a costume??? I'm thinking about keeping it simple and just wearing my kilt since I am dreading this Du as it is. Or was thinking about being Chris Farley in the Chip N Dales skit with Patrick Swayze. Run in my tights and wear a bow tie. any suggestions....

1.55 done again today.

Hey Pumpkins! How is everyone doing? I'm still dealing with the knee but I am keeping up by "running" on the elliptical still and a little shuffle running and water running until this heals up. Keep running and moving forward!

Gooooo Pumpkins!

Remember having to change your user icon! Eeek!

I'm running tomorrow - Length depends on how tired my legs are from my hard intervals on the trainer tonight. I might try and do a 2 in one day one day this week so I'm slightly ahead of where I should be.

Hey pumpkins!  I've been running and have 5 miles on the calendar for tomorrow which would have put me at goal, but I finally caught whatever viral infection is going around (special thanks to dbf) so I doubt it's going to happen.  So far I'm not feeling too bad - a little achy and some chest congestion - but the verdict is still out considering that dbf has been sidelined with it all week.  Hopefully it will be short-lived.

Hope the rest of you pumpkins are healthy!  Keep on running...

Go Tonight, you'll feel much more rested at least that is my take. I have a Du on Sun that I am leaving my house at 5:30... but 3:30 is to early to be waking up.

Have a super race tomorrow!

It's sounds challenging to live far away from most events. Can you go to bed early at home with 5 kids and get enough sleep before being up so early to race? Do you sleep well not at home? That plus if family has stuff going on tonight are things I consider with long am drive or not.

Started doing P90X yesterday and well running today was a bit slower than normal..my hamstrings and glutes are getting more sore as the day goes on..lunges and squats do that to me.

I'm just over 16 of my 23 hours for the month.

I plan on doing a long run with my husband over the weekend and doing lots of walking.

Have a super weekend Pumpkins and keep running!

Wow!  100 miles in 3/4 of a month.  Nothing I have ever done.

I am not yet caught up on my goal, but I was helped today by being with my granddaughter at the zoo.  That isn't cheating, is it?  My goal is a time-based one and we walked around the zoo for over an hour, but didn't actually get any distance (she's two and while a real trooper, she is kinda small).  My "real" runs tonight and tomorrow should get me caught up (with the help of my cheating at the zoo).

Run run run everyone.  Or walk, elliptical, hike or whatever.  Go go go.
