Extreme Veteran 483 Pacific NW | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread For those arriving on Friday mid-day, please remember that Friday is the LAST chance to go through athlete check-in. If you aren't checked in by 4pm on Friday, then you won't be allowed to race. Saturday is then bike/bag check-in. I'm sure you've all thought it through, but wanted to post a reminder for those who may not know. |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I had a thought... I know most of you are probably from AZ and might hang out already, but any thoughts to a BT get together? Is there a hotel that most of you are staying at? I will be driving down from Vegas by myself and it would be nice to share some of the experiences of the weekend with some fellow BTers. I'm not sure when I will be going down, maybe even Thursday and try to ride a loop of the bike course? I guess it's time to start making arrangements and I'm curious to know what everyone else is doing.I'm posting from my phone the next couple of days, so I may be slow to get back and/or post my bib number. PM me off you prefer about any plans. Out would be great to meet you all! |

Extreme Veteran 419 San Jose, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I'm going to drive down from NorCal on the 4th. I originally planned to do the 4000m swim at TTL on the 5th but it looks like my coach took it off my schedule. Still, as often as I go back and forth to AZ, I find I need the acclimation time to the elevation/dryness difference from home. On race week I'll probably do check-in on the first available day and then stay away from the madness until the day before the race when I need to do a practice swim and check in the bike/gear bags. I'm looking forward to finishing off this peak week of training - which started yesterday with a 2:45 run and ends Sunday with a 112 mile ride - and getting on with the tapering! We are almost there!!! |

Extreme Veteran 582 Denver, CO | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread My family and I are actually driving down on the 11th and staying the week after Thanksgiving. We have family there, so are planning a mini vacation. It should be fun! How many of you are going to the Athlete Dinner Friday night?? For those of you who have gone before, what is the food like? Is it good? I'm a vegetarian, so will there be something for me?? |

60 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I will be in town sometime Tuesday the 15th, would be great to get together sometime before the race so we all have some familiar faces to look for on Sunday. Have rented a condo about 15 min. away from the race site so if anyone has suggestions for possible get together, throw them out there. Recovery week this week for me, then taper up until the race. Am pretty pumped that it's almost here. |

Extreme Veteran 605 Centennial, CO | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Well, I'm definitely up for a get together. My family is not arriving (except for the few who live there) until Saturday. It would be great to have some familiar faces to look for on Sunday...plus, it'll be good to see other people doing it so I don't completely freak out haha |

Master 2404 Redlands, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Not going down til Thursday, and I found out there will be a pretty massive family presence on the course! I have a 100 miler this weekend and a 73 miler next weekend, but it seems like everyone is tapering alot earlier than that...I hope my plan isn't too aggressive? I think its very person specific on the taper/recovery. This is my first IM, but I have done a few marathons and I like the 2 week taper, so thats what I'm doing for this. Another week and half of hard training then chill. |

I don't start tapering until next week and even then I think I have a big-ish weekend the weekend of Nov 5th. I'm getting in on Thursday afternoon (thanks to United pushing our flight later) and will also have a big family group in tow. I may or may not be able to do a BT get together depending on what the fam ends up wanting to do. But I will be at the athlete dinner and doing the practice swim. |

That sounds a lot like my plan...kind of. My training is time based, but this weekend I have 6 hours on the bike on Saturday then next weekend (which is my first taper week) is 4 hours. I'll hit probably just over 100 miles this week and around 70-75 miles next week. |

New user 12 NYC | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Getting into Tempe also Friday 11AM. I'm up for a BT meetup somewhere staying at the Days Inn. Regards to the taper: Had the last weekend off and spent time with my gf in Germany. Planning on two long rides/short runs on the coming weekend and the following week I will do the NYC Marathon on Sunday. After that taper, taper, taper (only short swimming and cycling). Hope this works out - don't wanna miss my 3rd NYC Marathon... |

Veteran 217 United States Military Academy | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread furiousferret - 2011-10-26 12:10 AM I don't think you are being to aggressive. I decided to taper a week early. I feel that my training load this year has prepared me for my goal at IMAZ. Another 100 miler ride and 20 mile run at this point is not going to give me much additional fitness, but may potentially cause an unwanted injury. I plan to do some decent mileage over the next three weekends, but they will not be my peak workouts. Happy (SAFE) training! Not going down til Thursday, and I found out there will be a pretty massive family presence on the course! I have a 100 miler this weekend and a 73 miler next weekend, but it seems like everyone is tapering alot earlier than that...I hope my plan isn't too aggressive? |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I'm still trying to figure out how to bounce back from my vacation. I wasn't able to train at all. So I decided to try to get one last long ride in this weekend and one last long run in early next week. This was supposed to be a recovery week, then taper, but since I missed peak week traveling, I felt like I needed to get my last longer stuff in. otherwise it would have been five weeks since I did anything. |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread But to be honest, even though I had original dreams of breaking 12 hours when I signed up last year, due to everything that was going on this year, I will be pleased just to finish and break my previous times of 15 hours (granted, those were WAY more difficult courses). At least I know I did enough to finish. Heck, if I have a great day, 12 may not be out of the question. It all depends on how well I ride. I never ride such a flat route, so it's hard to tell how fast/slow I will be. |

Extreme Veteran 833 Strong Beach, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread so yeah...let's see some goals people!I'm looking for a significant improvement over my 12:23 in CdA in June. My swim should be around the same....1:09 but hopefully a minute or two faster. On the bike I think I can go somewhere around 5:30 compared to my 6:14 in Idaho...and on the run I hope to shave at least a half hour off my 4:43 run (I did a 3:42 standalone Mary two months ago).So overall I think I have a 11:00 race in me....but as always ill just be happy to finish. |

Regular 83 Chesterfield, MO | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Just finished 100 mile ride/5 mile run brick and feel great! A 2 hour run tomorrow and I'm into taper! After today I feel like I'm ready. First IM so a finish is the goal, but I think 13-14 should be realistic. |

I finished SOMA 70.3 this past weekend in 4:56:00. If we go by the rule, double the HIM + 1 HR, I'll be ecstatic with that time. Otherwise an 11:30 will be my goal time that I'd be happy with. Edited by cdriver 2011-10-27 5:43 PM |

Master 2621 Almaden Valley, San Jose, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I feel like I really put in the time this year.....until 4 weeks ago when my back tweaked. Had some injections in it, then when I was cleared to start ramping back up, my son shattered his leg while away at school. 9 days staying in a hotel with him didn't help much. So....rather than starting my taper now, I'll make this weekend and next week tough, and THEN taper! IMWI and IMCdA were both low 14's for me, I REALLY want my first number to be a 12. (12:59.59.59.59 is fine!) 6 weeks ago I was pretty confident, now not so much. We'll see!! |

Member 31 Arlington, MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Original plan was to train hard this week and next and then have a 2 week taper. This works well for me in marathons but this is my first IM. Unfortunatly the weather is not agreeeing with me since it snowed last night and its in th 30-40's (dont have a trainer). So run and swim increase and bike decrease. Anyone else tweaking? |
