First set:morbidly obese black women whose breasts were bigger than my quadriceps (combined quad to ONE breast!)...Umm, yeah, not very attractive at all...Second set elderly, Alzheimer's pts with an altered mental status (and what is different today in an Alzheimer's pt, theyre always altered...)first AMS lady went in and out of complete heart block--the electrical conduction in her heart was not connecting. Cardiology wanted to put a pacer in but I talked him out of it by reminding him that she had Alzheimer's and what would his purpose be? Other Alzheimer's pt is a SCREAMER when she's awake (let sleeping babies sleep I say) in the next room is the CEO's daughter who wants the door shut so she can't hear screaming lady (welcome to my world kiddo) That one had a too fast heart beat but that's no reason for the change in mental status and all her other labs were fine... OMG. I can't imagine being stuck with the screamer. Alzheimer's is such a horrible disease. Hubby's granddad had it. Always talked about people with gills that kept following him around. Very sad. Is your interview tomorrow? |

On deck - teaching this this morning and early afternoon, then off to the gym for a nice long run, before I pick up the Monkeys. Thought for the day...courtesy of Elder Monkey: People who drive little cars should stay behind us. Why, honey? Because they drive too slow and if you run into them, you'll smoosh them. Good to know she harbors no delusions about my driving skills or speed. OMG!!! how did I miss this one this morning? I can't even tell you how much this made me laugh, maybe because my kids are always giving me a hard time about my speed - LOL |

I am isolating RNA from rat hearts and white blood cells, then using that to do a microarray - basically look at all of the genes that are turned on in the cells at the time I harvest. I'm trying to figure out what genes are involved in Pulmonary Hypertension as it develops. Always could get a 2nd PhD in biomedical engineering. I mean, once you have one, the 2nd isn't all that hard... wow, i think i'd have a hard enough time getting through the first one Hi Scott! |

I have a BS in biomed, but got my masters in Electrical Engineering because that was where the cool stuff was at that time - and before I got my PhD, I decided law school sounded better. But, yeah - biomed rox now. |

It's really hard to get motivated to run when I get home late. Just curious...what type of lab? Molecular Biology. I'm a PhD student.
Good luck. How's the research and dissertation going? That's fair. Sometimes I'm not so sure about this path. I'm in my 2nd year and finally have all of the hardware and protocols worked out. i hope to have some real data in the next two months. That will be exciting. You do realize, right, that only geeks get excited about data. |

I just got one because my gums are receding because I brush too hard. I got the Oral B Triumph. I was told I could deduct it from my flex plan because the doctor recommended I get one. So far, I really like it. My teeth feel cleaner and my gums feel less irritated. |

Anyway, he says the electric toothbrushes get more plaque and my gums will be less ugly...true/false? Are they worth the $$? My dentist recommended Sonicare toothbrushes for gum health. Cleans better than a 'normal' toothbrush without all the wear and tear on your gums. In fact, you're supposed to apply LESS pressure on your gums than with a normal/electric toothbrush. We've had ours for a year and a half. You will need to replace the brush heads on a regular basis. I give them a thumbs up...well worth the money! |
