Charlotte! I love that photo! You do look tired, sure, but also? You look like an athlete. That's why I love that photo, and why those are my favorite photos from races in general (including my own). I know I always try to smile when I see a photographer in a race, but in the end, the photos I like best are the ones where I'm out there doing my thing, and that's what I see in your picture.

Thank you for posting!

PS: I agree with what you said about the magazine photos, although I'd never thought about it before. My favorite photos in the magazines are the ones from actual races. I love looking at the pros in action, couldn't care less about what they look like all pretty'd up.

Hey Manatees--having a hard time right now, held vigil most of the day into the night with adopted Jewish grandma (basically, she felt sorry for me and took me under her wing). She's been the closest thing I've had to a mom here in the States for the last five years, and she is very near death. I'm home for just a few hours to check in on BT (of course), grab some things, and put together a playlist for tomorrow's Spinning(R) class.

So Mila--thank you ever so much for posting this. It was the easiest thing I could think of and I'm just grabbing stuff from Limewire. You rock.

mila - 2008-05-02 8:56 PM

I just finished my playlist for tomorrow so of course I'll share .

- Fortune Faded by RHCP
- Have A Nice Day by Bon Jovi (mostly because Bon Jovi was here this week)
- Temperature by Sean Paul
- Hands Open by Snow Patrol
- Remember the Name by Fort Minor (stole my new temporary blog title form this one... it always reverts back to "Kiss My Sass" but I do change it up every once in awhile.
- Let U Go by Ashley Parker Angel
- Southern Belles in London Sing by The Faint (forgot about this song 'til Jeff posted a song by this band the other day so thanks for that, Jeff!)
- Maybe Tonight, Maybe Tomorrow by Wideawake
- Low by FLO-RIDA
- Paint it Black by Vanessa Carleton (very cool cover of The Stones)
- These Walls by Teddy Geiger
- Everytime We Touch by Cascada
- Country Basket by Green Day and Nelly
- Supernatural Superserious by REM
- The Impression that I Get by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

Hang in there Yanti.  There's a tough road ahead of you, but you'll see it through.  I'm always amazed at the strength and tenacity of the human spirit (even those who fall into some dark times).  I'll be thinking about you today.

Charlotte: Have a GREAT race this weekend and "enjoy the moment".  Even when you are struggling, take joy in knowing that you have prepared and are now competing against yourself and others.  Have a super race and be safe.

Yanti:  You will be in our thoughts and prayers.  It is not surprising that someone took to you and "adopted" you.  You have such a kind and caring spirit.  I am sure you have been a bright spot in her life and know that we are here to help you get through this.

OK  OK...I promise to never, ever, ever complain about swimming again...at least not on BT.

I just finished reading a thread that "Spokes" started about a training article and it turned into a discussion about his disdain of the pool....well let's just say that after 2 tubs of popcorn and 4 pages of reading....I ain't going there again.

He is on fire about that. Pretty funny.

Positive Thought of the Day: I'm fuctioning as a regular person, even though I have a hang over and would have rather taken a personal day and slept. LOL

Yes, I'm reaching as my ghost writer took the day off.

Doesn't sound like a reach to me -- I didn't come close to reaching "regular person" status when I was hungover on Sunday.

Steve, I wasn't going to read that thread but then you posted and I couldn't resist. Oh, Spokes. I totally hear him on the swimming (I share a lot of the same frustrations), but he's never going to find an ally here. Part of the reason I try not to complain (too much, heh) about my swimming is because I know I haven't put in enough effort to justify the whining.

Yanti - You and your Bubbe will be in my thoughts! Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you since I'm reasonably close.

Charlotte - have a GREAT race this weekend!

I've been on the working long hours ship, too. I'm trying to get ahead on a new software project that started recently since my friend Nick will be arriving on Tuesday to visit for a couple of weeks. I'm planning to take about 3 days off work while he's here because we're heading out to Palm Springs & Joshua Tree next weekend for some hiking. So by working some longer hours now, hopefully it will keep me from getting too far behind later.

I did manage to get home early enough tonight to get in a 2.25 mile wog before it got too late. It was still after 9pm by the time I finished, but I figured better to wog a little bit later than normal than to not wog at all.

Hope everyone has a great Friday! TGIF!

Is there something in the air this week to make everyone completely busy???  It's almost midnight and here I sit online, first time all day except for my little bloglets.  What an insane week it's been.  Pretty much all good, but soooo freakin' busy every minute, I feel like I can't catch my breath (although on my Garmin I see my HR is ok so I am comforted by that).  No, I am not really wearing my Garmin and typing....but close, I do love it already.  It's so hard to ride and run while staring at my left wrist!!!!

I am leaving Friday afternoon for the weekend (jumping for joy), so good luck to the racers and hopefully everyone has a good weekend, no matter what it throws at ya.  Thanks for the inspires, I am reading them (and love them), I just lack the reply time this week.

Positive Thought of the Day: I missed my workout last night and I didn't beat myself up over it. I'm pretty good and bad mouthing myself (I'm pretty sure that's why Yanti is making me do this), so to not do it was good. Instead the family went out to dinner and had a fun time. Instead of staying up late to squeeze it in, I went to bed at a decent hour. HIGHLY unlike me.

Yay! I love that one! I think that's something all of us struggle with here -- just giving ourselves a break. OK, I have another running question. I was glancing at training plans at RunnersWorld.com today, just for fun (amazing the things I do "just for fun" these days). I plugged in my recent 10k time (avg pace of 8:30ish/mile) and my goal of completing a half mary, and then looked at the plan to see how it matches up with the plan I'm currently on. I was very surprised to see that the plan had nearly all of my runs at over a 10:00/mile pace. I totally get not running *fast* on every training run, but that seems almost uncomfortably slow to me. I've been training based on RPE for about a year now, and that usually has me doing long and/or easy runs at about 9:00-9:20/mile -- I feel pretty comfy at that pace, don't breathe too hard, etc. I do notice that I can very easily carry on a conversation when I'm running with my friend at about a 9:45-10:00 pace, and I don't know if the same is true when I'm running faster. Still, I can't imagine doing all of my runs (except for weekly tempo runs) at a 10:00-plus pace. Am I running too fast?

I'm no coach, but if you are using RPE and feel comfortable I think a 9-9:20 pace is fine.  My coach would be having me run easy runs at 9-9:15 based on my marathon time and VDOT, but when recovered 8:30 is usually my pace.  We agreed that if I feel fine and am not fatigued for my harder work outs like Tempo runs then the pace is ok.  I do also use a HRM which I find helpful.  It tells me when I am pushing too hard, not fully recovered, or on the verge of getting sick.  Not 100% necessary, but a good tool.

Everyone have fun this weekend! Train fun and enjoy life! I will be thinking of your encouraging words on Sunday! My bib # is 1759 (Florida 70.3) if you want to send positive thoughts to me that day. Hubby's is #64. He needs good vibes, too! Smile

Yanti: I will be praying for you and your family (extended and distant). Just by reading your blog and your posts, I know you are a very positive energy in this world. Your grandmother’s life has been blessed by having you in it. Stay strong. And stay cool…warm weather in your area!

Jeff: Keep the positive thought flowing.

New Garmin Lovers: Enjoy your new toy! It is amazing what you can do with such a little device.  I though I lost mine last night…scary! I would have felt lost on Sunday.

Good luck Charlotte!!!

I am off on an adult-only vacation this afternoon!!!!  I CAN'T WAIT!!!  My hubby planned it all by himself, so I didn't even get mad when I realized that we were leaving the same day as one of my planned races (the only one in our town all year).  Oh well...

My husband gave me a Garmin Forerunner for my graduation present back in March.  You guys have inspired me to get it out of the box.  I don't know why I haven't used it yet...I really wanted it...it just seems so bulky.

We're on it, Charlotte!!

Guys, I am not doing well with the May Manatee challenge. I just...really, really hate getting up early to exercise. I'm planning to bike tomorrow morning with a friend, and I've got a race Sunday morning, so that'll knock out two more mornings, but it's going to be a close call. (And my biking isn't looking so hot, either.) I really need to get my act together!

Hello everyone!

I'm happy to say that I made it back to Omaha safe and sound - it was absolutely pouring in PA and gorgeous and sunny when I landed in NE.  Sort of poetic don't you think?

Great posts, lots of good vibes, another great pic!

Even though we all seem to have been bitten by the busy bug (hmmm, that's corny - lol) there is still lots of great stuff going on!

Have a great weekend!
