JChristoff - 2008-10-13 2:58 PM  I don't wear them until it is around 40... but I did do a Olympic tri last year when the start temp was 38... No arm warmers just my good ole wet tri suit. It maybe got to 50 the entire day... So I guess don't listen to me

For me, around 50 is when I start wearing arm warmers.  But, I also made did a tri at around 50 degrees (it was 32 when I left for the race that morning) and didn't wear a jacket or anything other than the tri suit.  I was cold, but it could have been worse.

You want cold?  Minnesota.  Once, I went up there in Feb. for a funeral.  I left the airport and it was SOOO cold, I started to panic a little.  You can just tell, that if you spent any time out there, you would die.  You're instincts just told you that it was bad to be outside.

(it was below zero, that day....).

They have to plug there cars into the wall sockets so the engine blocks don't freeze.  That's sick.

That's generally Jan 15th to Feb 20th or so.  The wind starts blowing and you walk outside and you can't even breathe.

I think it's funny when you take a breath through your nose, and you can feel the snot freezing in the insides of your sinuses...  Good stuff...

When your nose hairs freeze...

ATXtri - 2008-10-13 11:59 AM Uhm, two words... HOLY SH*T

I have never worn legings...  I don't mind going out in bike shorts.  My toes get cold before my legs do.  But I break out the long sleeve jersey during out winters when it's done in the 40's (maybe high 30's).

What about when your eyes water from the cold and then your tears freeze, basically freezing shut your eyes? Love that.

I'm the same way... don't really mind the legs getting cold... but I do when my toes start to get cold. Those shoe covers rock for that.

Or when the wind is so cold that you feel like your eyes are drying out and freezing inside your skull? Yeah, 'tis good times. And yet, I still want to move back to Boston.

I sort of lauged.  I had problems with a Triathlete magazine issue and I complained.  The sent me some shoe covers for the cold and a race belt.

The thought was nice, but toe warmers, in the desert?  don't need'em....

Aikidoman - 2008-10-13 11:48 AM I just get worried about the temps becuase if it's this cold now, I worry about what's it going to be like in a month when I race.  I never really concened my self with winter riding gear.  That could be an issue.  I guess I won't worry about it till I see the forcast for that day a week prior.

You should be all right with some arm and leg warmers. Those come pretty cheap.

Everytime I might forget why I love you, you come up with these pieces of brilliance!!!  Warmers it is....

{{{Melon press}}} for YOU.

Yup - that's what I can get with part of my gift certificate to the bike store! Toe covers. I don't have any. I have gloves and an ear warmer headband thing (that is also good for running cuz it's lightweight and thin).
