wgraves7582 - 2009-11-05 12:46 PM Here you go - try this - just a suggestion from a dinner party we were at recently!

Do the butternut squash - cut up the quince and plantain and add some butter and brown sugar (like making sweet potatoes)  Ours had apples instead but I bet that would be alright.

Bake it off - not the canabis - voila - quite the side for a fabulous dinner and awesome leftovers!

We even put flour in to make a crust (whole wheat though!)

why not add in the cannabis, and make it a REAL PARTY.

lol.
stacieb

Here it is... She won't smoke it but she'll bake it. Don't eat the brownies that Stacie bakes!

wgraves7582 - 2009-11-05 2:00 PM I am a cell phone cheap skate - Virgin Mobile $25 a month for 1000 texts and 200 minutes that I can roll over if I buy a new pack before 30 days is up - I am up to around 500 now because I only use it when I am out of town on travel.

i should upgrade but I am a true cheapskate with stuff like that - would rather have 6 bikes!

I love my iPhone, but I'm not thrilled with AT&T service areas. I had better coverage when I was with Nextel.

I like the apps, but really like having access to my gmail account. I get updates from my kids school, and weather warnings sent to my email. I can check them anytime anywhere.

I contemplated an I-Pod Touch for the apps but it is so large and I like having my small I-Pod to throw in my pocket while running or riding.

Once again - cheap or is it frugal? LOL

I have my iPhone and I also have an iPod nano. I don't use it when I'm running though, unless I'm on a treadmill. I tend to run in the middle of the road and I like to hear the cars before they run me over.

i bought a QUINCE the other day.  and PLANTAIN.

just to try them.

im gonna try the recipe i found for BAKED QUINCE AND YOGURT.

i hope its yummy.

if not, down the garbage disposal and ill be glad that i bought 1/2 a peach pie for later on tonight.

ooooooh.  yummmo.
stacieb

What are your plans for the Plantain?  If you are intending it to be sweet the skin has to be black before they are sweet otherwise they are really starchy...good fried as chips, but not good if you thought it was going to be dessert!

You can have all the plantain you want - no thanks - bleck.  Never heard of the other item Quince?

yay.  im not sure.  it sorta looks like a mis-shapened apple.  smells.....quincy.

ill let you know.

as for the plantain.  all the recipes ive read called for deep frying.  i did find a baked plantain recipe.  i ve been waiting for the darn thing to ripen.

I have heard of deep frying them - the only time I tried it was in Puerto Rico and we ate them like a banana - big mistake!

this is the recipe i found/im gonna use w the plantains.

i used a recipe from the same site to make the BAKED QUINCE today, that was really yummy.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F & grease the bottom of a 13"x9" baking dish.
  2. Wash & boil plantains in their skins, about 5 minutes, then cool & peel before cutting each into 5 lengthwise strips.
  3. Roll each strip lengthwise, fastening with a toothpick if necessary, then arrange in the prepared baking dish.
  4. Melt the margarine, then add lemon or lime juice & then the honey, mixing well.
  5. Generously brush the plantain rolls with this honey mixture & bake 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. After the first 10 minutes, brush the rolls with the remainder of the honey mixture.
sounds pretty 'desserty' to me...so i wait til they get black in order for them to be ripe?

ill let you know how i make out.

Ok, so the shot was a little late and he has to ride at the front of the bus.  He'll get over it. Does not a bad mom make.  From the recaps of your days over the last month, you are not just Queen of the Village but also "Queen Mom."

Thinking of a few other whacko parents out there.....silver balloon comes to mind.  Now that is a parenting problem.

yep what the other Kim said!!

aspeelma - 2009-11-05 5:28 AM I know I can't sustain my current lifestyle, especially since I'm increasing my workload with my diet listed above. I have just hit a big spurt of I don't like food.

I did pick up some bananas and sliced them up and froze them last night. I am going to try putting some in a smoothie. I also got some fruit yogurt to try with a smoothie.

Backstory --> I was allergic to EVERYTHING as a baby. I didn't start eating solid foods until I was 3. My pediatrician told my parents I would be a picky eater because of that, I never learned to eat textures.  He was right.

I just cannot eat mushy foods like pasta or applesauce. Textures and some tastes are horrible for me.

Anyone have any suggestions.

oooohhhhh my! I would suggest the smoothy option....or even a cookbook called the sneaky chef, Missy Chase Lapine. The things my kids/hubby don't know wont kill them! I put tons of veggies in my smoothies....but I like almost every veggie/fruit!

wgraves7582 - 2009-11-05 6:36 AM Chiro pulled all of my activity from me last night - walking, riding, running.  Only elliptical, upper body weights, aqua jogging, and swimming with PB only.

This is until 11/30.

So now I have to figure out how to volunteer for the Turkey Trot that I always run in and maybe a cross race next weekend.  This stinks!!!!

Oh well better now than the summer right.

He said I am still good for a marathon training program as long as the ITB stops flaring up!

Sorry Bill....please let it heal!

how can you fall asleep watching TV?

it must be a guy thing.  my DH falls asleep watching the Tube too.

my DS falls asleep to nighttime talk radio LOL.

both 'bug' me.

I actually have very odd bedtime habits. I can watch TV to get tired, but to fall asleep I need to have my iPod. Sometimes I fall asleep to relatively calm music, but just as often it's very hard rock. I don't know why, but it helps settle me down
