marathongirl11 - 2011-01-04 3:34 PM Chris,

Thanks for the info.  I am back to the Dr on the 11th, I will ask about the active reflex therapy.  I'd be willing to try just about anything to get me running again!

Thanks again.

your welcome.  I spoke with my today,  I got the name wring it's Active Release Technique.  He also said the type of work done on him invloved scrapping a tool down the length of the ligaments,  to strech them and breakdown the scar tissue.  When that was done the issues healed themselves.  He was at about a 6-7 in terms of how bad it was, he had a treatment a week for 6 weeks.  I'd offer the name of the place but we're in Canada so it won't help.

All the Best,

Chris

Oh, that is what my Dr is having me do at home!  I have to take "butt" end of a butterknife and run it down my fascia into the heel.  He said this was to break down the scar tissue that is in there.  I try to do it twice per day (at his request).  It is painful.  Sounds like what your friend went through.  Glad to know that it helped someone, I will continue with the process and keep my fingers crossed.

I didn't have a speedsuit and don't really thik it would have made a big difference for me.  Seemed like a lot of money for not a lot of gain.

Hello everyone,

In regards to skin suit comments: I did not wear one this year and at the same time did not want to deal with undressing/ taking it off during transition. I wore an 2XU tri suit and felt comfortable with it. The Ohio water temp this year was hovering around 84deg during practice and certainly I would have been "baked" in it. I am planning to wear a similar tri suit this year and hopefully improve in the swim time.

If you are considering using a skin suit, below you will see the list of USAT approved skinsuits and speedsuits for use in any water temperature:

Anybody ever read the book Iron Fit or use one of his workout programs? I was going to make my own but my brother-in-law bought me this book so i might just try it instead.

phil... Welcome.

Take a look back a page or two for the Iron Fit conversation.

Skinsuit...a swimming suit of sorts worn over your tri- apparel used for optimizing swim performance when wetsuits are not permitted. There are varied views on there effectiveness for the average age-grouper. They have "fast properties" but do not provide bouyancy like a wetsuit.

...does that sound about right folks?

From what I understand, Ironman and USAT rules are different? This list is certainly different. Maybe it's just because it is not all inclusive yet...

Could be and they are both different identities as far as organizations go.
One suit could be allowed for an Ironman while the same suit be disallowed for a USAT race.

Yeah one of my friends has a speed suit that he says he can wear for USAT races but not IMLOU.
Confusing!

I just listened to part one of two, of an interview with Brett Sutton, on the podcast, IM-TALK (free and found on i-tunes). Very interesting. I've heard a variety of things about Sutton in the past, but this is the first time, I believe, I've heard him talk about his ways and means. In some regard he gets specific about what he does, but in other ways he doesn't. His take on running style/posture, swim stroke, and "speedwork" were particularly interesting.

Peace.

Thanks very much.  Let me know if you think it has helped your cycling, other than just getting on the bike a lot.

You know how you get to one point during the bike where you are grinding the gears and the legs are burning and the lactic acid build up is so much, you have to slow down to catch your breath, spin at an easier cadance to flush the LA out... well this program definitely allows you to increase your LT over a period of time.
I've been able to increase my cadance, Lactic Threshold numbers have increased and I can sustain power/speed much longer. I just have to wait and see how it correlates to the open road.

I went out with some roadies a week ago and I noticed that my HR was higher and the legs were not burning! all good so far..
Reading what the other peeps in his thread here in BT that are using power meters- they "all of them" have experience gains in their power output. I might do one more round of it once I get this one done. A definite must if you want to improve in the bike.

Awesome. Thanks for the valuable info.   I'm going to try it, but have to wait until I get through my next marathon.  Are you finding you're still able to keep up the running / swimming?  or are you just concentrating on the bike?
