Very funny! A friend of mine said it closed last year (for this year) in 4 hours. A few of us are going to go down this year and volunteer so we can register onsite! Here we go again....! QUOTE]mrwrite - 2011-07-13 4:28 PM Hi. I tried unsuccessfully to find out how quickly this IM sells out. I'm hooked after finishing IMCDA last month, and this one is on my to-do list for 2012! Finances are always a concern, so flying out to volunteer to ensure an entry is not feasible. So, in the past has this one sold out in minutes, hours, days, weeks? Thanks! I couldn't remember for sure, but I was thinking it was a few hours also, not a few days. |

Just don't do what I did and forget the time difference. I started 1 hour too early and was getting really frustrated. As soon as the "correct" time came around I got right in. Duh! I might have to do this again. About 10 of the folks from our tri club are going to volunteer so they can sign up for 2012. As much as I want to do IMAZ I might do this again just to have the company. Races are so much more fun when you have a few people to share it with. Actually the best part is when we are all training for the same race. It makes the training that much better when we all have to suffer on a 6 hr bike ride enjoy, Duane |

Do you recommend drinking more water or sports drink prior to the swim start than usual? Seems that the salt water dries out my throat more than fresh water or in a pool. Do you recommend drinking more water or sports drink prior to the swim start than usual? Seems that the salt water dries out my throat more than fresh water or in a pool. Any other ocean swimming recommendations? Sighting? Waves? Ok I have done IMFL 4 times, plus Gulf coast once (Same venue) and in 2007 specatated and swam the course, so between all the practice swims and racing I've put some time in at this race venue. Also I was an ocean lifeguard for years so even tho I am not the fastes swimmer out there, I consider myself a strong swimmer with above average open water knowledge. RE the salt water, not much you can do. They have a water station between laps so you can wash your mouth out. You are going to swallow sea water. It is what it is RE sighting. Do some practice swims at the venue and stop and look around when you are in the water. Pick something on the shore to sight off of as a land mark. Even during practice swims wherever stop look around and pick something to spot off of. This is excellent practice for any open water racing. Also consider where the sun is and where it will be race day. IMFL is a 2 loop course and across the top your will be swimming directly into the rising sun. I HIGHLY reccomend dark tinted goggles. RE current/waves the current when standing facing the water everytime I have swum there is to the left. It could be diffrent race day but that seems to be the usal pattern. Waves? Depends on the wind. I've had it flat as a pancake and 5-6 foot surf there. If you are not comfortable is surf learn how to swim in waves before the race. I taught a bunch of Bters how to get in and out thru it last year just before the race but I would suggest doing it BEFORE getting to the race venue. get comfortable in it and learn how to handle it. Hoep this helps. I recently moved and I have a dreadful pool situation now. Its quite depressing. Train hard!! -SMO |

For drinks I would suggest getting Ironman Perform and at least trying a couple rides with it. That's what will be served on the course (and water). I'm not sure about nutrition. I have just started experimenting with GU gels. I also have been trying peanut butter crackers. I am certainly open to other suggestions. |

Expert 663![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Williamsburg, VA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official ThreadI just got the Ironman perform and really don't like but hopefully I can get used to it by Nov. Way to salty for me. I guess I just need to water it down a bit more. As for nutrition I usually do uncrustables and shot blocks. I've only everyone HIM so after that distance it's all new for me. |

Or at least try some before the race. I want to do it before Augusta. Anyone know where they sell locally? I've checked the big sporting good places and can't find any. Online they only sell the powder in Lemon Lime, not my favorite. I still have old Gatorade powder in Lemon Lime that I use only when I have to On the bike I use Gatorade, water, Uncrustables, GU, Fig Newtons and Jelly Belly's. Seems OK on the bike so far up to 80 mile yesterday. But I haven't had any really long runs afterward so not sure. Also, we stop at a store halfway through and sometimes I just need a Snickers I plan on using Augusta as a training race, practicing pacing the bike and dialing in my nutrition. Looking forward to seeing what other's do. Duane

Nice to meet you mrwrite, I'm one of rnner66's teammates that made sure I got my monies worth by finishing in 16:45. I loved CdA but apparently swim too slow for water that cold and ended up in the warming yurt for 30 minutes with hypothermia. Looking forward to IMFL 2012 with it's warmer water! rnner66 - 2011-07-22 3:08 PM Very cool - we will have to find eachother at FL and say hello in person! I cut twizzlers in 1/2 and they fit nicely in a bento box. They dont' melt, don't break and don't crummble. Infinately more tastey than a gel |

I am wondering if someone can look at my logs and provide some feedback. I plan on increasing my swims and adding a longer ride per week. My plan is for a 3.5 hr ride this week and build from there. I am training for a HIM on 9/11 so I feel like my training is pretty close to where it needs to be (15 weeks out). |

Regards from Iceland, Bez Last year at the race I did not see to many bikes with disk back wheels. I did see alot of people with 808 front and back and also with 404 front and 808 or 1080 back wheels. I dont think you would go wrong with the SRAM60/80. I am planning on running Zipp 808 front and back. I have heard the winds are not to bad most of the time. |
