Member 110 Denton, TX | Subject: RE: JFord Bradleyd3 2013 Spring Group- Closed " Elena - Check with your local bike shop about your handle bars. Roubaix is a very nice bike and I would say you probably have carbon bars. They will confirm without you guessing. The reason you don't want to use clip on aero bars is that carbon has great tensile strength but not great resistance to the pressure that bolting on those bars would create - especially if you were pulling on them with some force. Hence - you could easily crack your lightweight handlebars. Ask them for ideas and solutions. One good idea - they may have another set of handlebars (alum) sitting around from where someone upgraded to carbon. They may give them to you or sell them for 'nothing', then you can clip on aero bars to those! It is not a ton of work to swap out handlebars. My shop would do it for free. I definitely think the tradeoff would be worth the swap, but that would be your call. Worth checking out. let me know; I don't mind sending you the aero bars. They have all the hardware and fresh tape on them - they were barely used. I would be surprised if you did not like them. -todd Edited by Todd13 2013-03-20 10:21 AM |

I am training for a half in the middle of April. I won't be able to ride, but should be able to run, and possibly get some swims in. So my obvious question is, can I run every day? My longest training runs so far have been 2 hours.
Absolutely! I would just have a different focus on those runs, meaning I would not run all out everyday, but use one for a short run, a recovery run, a medium run, speedwork, long run... mix it up, This will also keep it interesting... X2. Keep it varied and if your legs pull up sore, then take the day off or run short and easy. |

No I haven't dropped off the face of the earth. I raced on Sunday - Olympic. Finished 2:38:58. Going in I said I would be disappointed with slower than 2:40, so I was relatively happy with my time. Looking back now, I pretty much achieved what I wanted to, which was doing a nice even pace on the bike, and then going as fast as possible, but again evenly paced on the run. Acheived both! The swim was moved from the ocean to a nearby river due to rough surf, which made the run to T1 about 700m (nearly 1/2 mile), which was annoying and added a bit of extra time. (4mins, instead of 90sec that it would normally have been). It was a very hot day and I was glad I put in a good effort. It has given me a bit of extra incentive to keep up my training. 11 weeks to go as of this Sunday to my IM! Arrgh! I'll post my race report soon. Stuart, that is awesome! Sucks about the long run to T1, but still a very good time! Great job! I look forward to reading your race report, so be sure and let us all know when it is finished! Race report is up. I guess you can go to my profile and get it there somehow. IF not, I'll post the link. |

Mine is bike. mainly the fitness portion of the bike. I'm putting in a ton of trainer time in prep for IMTX. Hands down....it's swimming. TOTALLY my weakest. I was never a big swimmer. My sisters were and I hated swimming because of being stuck at swim meet after swim meet as a kid. I made my March Distance challenge dedicated to swimming and my whole month of March training is swimming. April starts the training program for my A race (Olympic Distance). |

Veteran 395 Henderson,NV | Subject: RE: JFord Bradleyd3 2013 Spring Group- Closed The bike seems to be my most obvious limiter, I'm not fast, and after 60 miles my body starts seriously objecting . I'm trying to spend more time in the saddle, and work on the other things that will improve my performance, like hydration and nutrition. |

It doesnt bug me like it used to that i am a slow swimmer (2:30 /100) Swimming could for sure benefit with a little coaching...which I inquired about earlier this yr but never heard back. I've always been athletic and into staying fit. Unfortunately it hasn't translated well into riding a road bike for me. More time in the saddle is needed with structured drills. That is one thing I do NOT do. |

New user 91 | Subject: RE: JFord Bradleyd3 2013 Spring Group- Closed Run...Run...Run...RUN has to be my weakness. 10min mile no matter if it is 2 miles or 10 miles. I have tried speed work, running hills, sand, fields. None have upped my pace. All I can say is I can almost pinpoint my run time down to the second LOL. On another note, I just downloaded the BT app to my phone so I will be much more likely to update my workouts!! So much easier to put it in on the app rather than log in here each time. I tend to get stuck on the classifieds trying to find a good set of wheels. |

Especially if youre like me and take your phone with you when you train. I Plug in my #'s as soon as Icomplete the workout..no having to prop open the laptop...log on..bla bla.

Member 110 Denton, TX | Subject: RE: JFord Bradleyd3 2013 Spring Group- Closed James - you are wearing black in the photo right? The one wearing the green 'thingy' or the other person in black? Not sure.... Biggest weakness was the swim: corrected with pull buoy and paddles and lots of swim time focussing on rocking hips and going to a 1:4 breathing stroke. I focus every 50m on form; I never swim without focusing on form. Need to practice my open water swimming. Biggest weakness now: maybe run. Increasing my mileage in a very controlled manner. I know volume is key. I can't run 13.1 right now, but I feel good about 9-10 miles. Wanting to run 1:57 for my 70.3 split, but the course is very hilly and I doubt that will be possible. Pipedream right now.... Big weekend? 3 hrs on the bike and 90 min run is my plan.

Rinsing before swimming? Lol. I thought that said that just for laughs. Biggest weakness for me would have to be swimming, but I'm lazy and don't do enough time on it. I'm capable, but it is definitely my worst of the 3. I figure I get more bang for my buck by doing more cycle training. Nice work on the Half mary Jford! Feels good to get a race under the belt. |

Nasty day to try to get out today.... Lost the $50 while riding the mtb- had no bike jersey or bike attire on becides a helmet....wore a regular hooded sweatshirt with a front pocket. Had a feeling it could happen but folded the bills around my phone thinking the weight of the phone would keep it in. I was just heading to pick up my Jeep from getting detailed..kinda a leisurely ride. When I got to the car wash and realized it was gone, I took the same route home with my head out the window hoping to see some green back. NOPE. Then today... My daughter received a gift-card from Target aand has been bugging me to take her to get something. So we went. I had something to return and they put its worth ($14) on a gift card, which I then told my 6 year old son he could have to buy something for himself. Stupid me, I handed him the card! Well can you guess what happens when you give a 6 year old a gift card while in the store?............yep, he set it down and LOST the dang card!!!!!!! OMG. I was so mad. More at myself than losing the $14. So $65 burned. In less than 24 hours. Ouch.

New user 37 OKC | Subject: RE: JFord Bradleyd3 2013 Spring Group- Closed Had my first outdoor multisport event this season. Did a duathlon yesterday. Felt mediocre, partly due to poor training, partly due to poor weather (40 degrees F with on and off rain). 5k/18.6m/5k. Learned 3 things from this race- (1) Bike is definitely my weakness. I definitely need more time in the saddle (and a more comfortable saddle would be good too). (2) While I don't like competing in bad weather... neither does anyone else! (3) My transitions need a LOT of work. I spent about 2 minutes in both T1 and T2 (though T2 was due to foot cramps and trying to slide on shoes... definitely NOT fun!). As bad as I felt, still did halfway decent (76/162 at 2:00:00). My time was slower than last year, but someone was telling me that the bike course was longer than last year. So I'll have to look into my records and see if that's the case. Edited by Warner1281 2013-03-24 4:04 PM |

Warner: Good job on the DU. Weather didnt sound too fun and why does it always seem like the distance in a race so much longer that race says it is? My bike computer & garmin always show Ive ride/run farther.
Challenge update: Swim: 9400/12000 Bike: 117/175 Run: 51/56 abs: Not sure I can make that bike goal. Will try hard!
