lyssa-gator - 2009-01-08 3:40 PM i mean. YAY on getting to the pool julee!!!

I think I have two arm bands! what size ipod do you have....this is for the one that you can watch movies on but all will fit. It drives me crazy and slips down my arm so I got the ironman watch that lets you forward your song and control your volume from the watch...all you have to do is plug in the small adapter to the bottom of your ipod where it charges...so many gadgets...and not enough body space for them!

lyssa-gator - 2009-01-08 9:39 AM maybe a garmin?!? yeah! a garmin!! actually, this list MAY get pretty long, i'll just leave it alone now. LOL

hmmmm I have one I dont use! what can we trade?

LOL!! you name it julee!! i look at them longingly all the time at the store, but can't ever seem to plunk down the cash. as far as other gagets, i've only RECENTLY aquired an ipod, but what a HUGE difference it makes!!! i can't imagine running without it EVER again! other than that, i have no gagets. i really would like to get a garmin, mostly for the speed/distance thing, i would really like to know what i'm doing as i'm doing it instead of after, especially since i'm TRYING to do this marathon thing, and i don't live near a track, it would help with intervals, blah blah blah. all that stuff. i would really like pedals and shoes for my bike, and i'd LOVE some aerobars, ooh, and a bike computer, that'd be good. i NEEEED some new running shoes, mine have about 500 miles on them, and they're toast. pretty much, i have a wetsuit, a bike, and an ipod, that's about it. LOL still aquiring the rest. oh, and i have a new alternator in the dang car. grrr. actually, come to think of it, i've done three races with minimal gear, and i've made out pretty well, that says something for the sport, eh? LOL

lyssa...what size shoe do you wear? and are you using boxpedal or SPD's? or clip?

right now the pedals on the bike are just regular no clip deals, i didn't even put the strap things on there, they're just plain pedals. and i wear running shoes when i ride.
but my shoesies are size 8ish
it's something i should start shopping for, but i have NO clue, i mean honnestly, NONE LOL

LOL i didn't know you could hook it to your watch! rad!!
my ipod is a 4th gen nano,
i was telling lynne though (triathlynne) i went to apple.com and an arm band, the sport earbud thingys and the nike+ all together was more than $100!! there's no freaking way! i do think the nike + thing would be fun though.

Kurls26 - 2009-01-08 6:32 PM Thanks Trish...you were right the Cranberry Tri is a USAT sanctioned event-so I guess I will need to be a member on race day. Or the website also stated that I can get a "day pass" at sign in. No clue how much those run..but I am about to find out!

You can use the race search here on BT to find race reports from people who have done these races. Reading these can be very enlightening about the race environment, organization, etc and help you to make your decision.

The USAT one day pass is $10. A yearly membership is $39. If you are only going to do one race this year then you are better off going with the day pass.

Other tools and gadgets I can't live without:

  • a watch in the pool
  • trainer and rollers
  • good clothes

OK Nicole ~ where is the bullet with ipod? I could not run...or I could but I would not have half the fun without mine! and used to use the Garmin all the time but I lost mine and got this one from someone and it is not like my old one and I was having issues with it and just did not have time to mess with it...I guess it is time to make time! no better time then the present...but not today, too busy.

I've never used an iPod for training and don't plan to. I like to be aware of what's going on around me and you can't use them in races.

Lyssa (or anyone else here),

I have some Shimano PD-M505 spd mtb pedals I'm willing to give away. They are the ones that sometimes come with a new bike. They are not as light as some of the higher models, but they do the job. They would work with those shoes that Julie is offering. If you want them, let me know.

nope, no rain for lyssa today.
it was WINDY like you wouldn't believe. other than that it was darn near ideal. sunny, about 45 degrees. i could have run for hours, (except i waited so late in the day, it was getting dark) the only thing missing would have been rain, i LOVE the rain!!!
i was listning to black eyed peas "pump it" very good beat, i noticed that listning to it caused a longer slower gait, which although feeling a tad more relaxed, i think i was faster. my HR was definately up.

not sure if i'm getting to run tomorrow, but i'll be on here regardless.

Woo hoo she signed up !!!! ........... hey, you might look into doing a few 5k runs just to get used to being in a group ya know, maybe you could do that before your tri in Autust.

Maybe swim when the pool is busy so you are not used to being alone in a lane all quiet and then get in a pool/lake etc with bodies all over the place........or even swim with a friend who is willing to bump into you and just in general get you used to another person near you.  Really, my friend and I do that so we are not just used to being in a lane alone ! lol

Oh I'm so excited for Lyssa gator to be outside with wind in her face ! WOOHOO

So many fun things today !!!

Wow...I'm gone for several hours today and look at all the hoopla going on...how exciting!!! Looks like Lyssa won big today... We have some very kind and giving people here!

I don't know about every else but I'm ready for the weekend

I went to the Y after work and ran 2, and my husband came and ran some and then we walked 4 miles and then I went downstairs at the Y where my daughter was doing her insane workout, and she made me ride the statioinary bike with her for 30 min. So I am just tuckered out....but it is a good tuckered...and I'm hoping a significant weight loss on Monday.

I'm going to go and check everyones logs now.... I hope you all had a great day as well!! It is a really strong group here.

Oh, and Julie in Indiana.... I love the picture of you!!! I love to put a face with a name.

I'm going to check in on everyone now

I'm no expert at this, but why don't you decide when you see how you feel?  If you have the energy do it, because you know you'll have even more energy afterwards.  But if you feel like you need a break, take one.

And speaking of rest, I'm heading off to bed now... despite the football game.
