Sensei ![]() | ![]() Oh yeah, that reminds me... Remember the discussion about my wife's father and the prospect of cancer? Well, come to find out, he has it, and HAS had it for about 12 years (they estimate). At his age, they can't decide to just let it run it's course, or try radiation. radiation only improves his chance to live past 5 more years by only a couple percent over doing nothing. The wife is a bit concerned this last week to say the least. |

The wife is a bit concerned this last week to say the least. but isn't her dad in his late 70's? We get alot of patients that do nothing at older ages... Exactly. The doc said that he could easily pass away from something else other than the cancer, so really no need to go through radiation and all the misery for that when it doesn't improve much. Obviously, if you are 45 and only have 5 more years, you do what you can even if it only increases you odd by a coupler percent. if you are 75, then maybe not... Tough choice. What is actually odd. She finally decided about his happiness and wants him to NOT do anything, where he is ready to go under chemo and put up with the side effects. I'm shooting from the hip, but I think they said he has a 75% chance to live past 5 years if nothing is done and an 80% chance to live past 5 years if radiation is done. To me, those are pretty high odds for someone that's mid 70's anyway so why go through several months of radiation for 5 more precent... |

Sorry you went through that...hopefully it was a good thing for you?? And no, Lara, I don't ever want to go back to Chicago. The last time I went there I sat on a plane on the runway for 5 hours. |

Very tough decision for you guys. I didn't have any contact with my ol' man for about 30 years. The S.O.B. decided he wanted to talk to me a few days (perhaps a couple of weeks) before he passed on. I didn't give him more than 5 min. of my time and told him off. Rude of me? Probably yeah, but I had a lot of venting that I didn't give him. The vent wasn't much about me but why he treated my older brother the way he did. But I digress. |

I didn't know if I should have crossed that line. Haha no. It's still months away. Anyway ... a rant: So I have to travel a lot in the next couple of months for a friends wedding and to see some friends so I went to make reservations today. Since I have so many frequent flier points I usually just book free flights then figure out from there. Anyway everbody's saying: `Oh there are so many great deals out there right now on travel.' So I figured I'd be able to get some decent prices on flights and hotels. Uhhhh no. Flights to San Francisco, for example, are $339 round trip. And decent mid-strip hotels in Vegas, for example, are in the $159-$199 a night range! When the eff was that ever a good deal for Vegas? Oh they say `Get a room for $49 a night.' Yeah, if you want to stay at the Sahara Tuesday through Thursday. These cities that complain about the lack of tourism really need to evaluate their hotel pricing. No wonder so few people travel far for leisure anymore, you have to be rich to do so. Sorry 'kido if this presses any buttons since you're from Vegas, but really, I can't afford to travel these days!!! |
