What a great way to start April my new bike is so speedy( thanks hub). It still doesn't exist as it has not been pictured here. I use a software called InfraView to re-size pictures...it lets you customize them to the exact size you want (in the case of the forums...under 50 kB, which is roughly the size of a PDF @ 200dpi. If you size it about 500 on the long side of the picture, it will upload here. |

That's how he throw's the baseball 168 mph! By the way, I'm old enough to not only remember that SI article, but I was a subscriber at the time. My mom got me a subscription to SI when I was seven, and I kept it well into college. It helped me immensely in trivia battles throughout college. |

Let's start a "Post a 'recent' pic of your Steed" thread in here. Once I get it back from the bike shop! I switched out the cassette to an Ultegra 11-28 because I'm a wimp and can't handle a 25 as my lowest gear, and I also upgraded the rear derailleur and chain to Ultegra (mostly because the 105 derailleur wasn't compatible with the 28 cog, but it should shift a little better, too). I'm looking at new wheels, too...the new Mavic Ksyrium Equippe in white, but that's about $450 I don't have right now. |

While DC might have hooked many of you, I knew that he was FOS. I guess that just means that I have been around his antics for a while now. There is no way he is missing IMUSA...not this year. He has good things in store for him with the training that he has been doing. I echo the many comments about the weather breaking and April being a good month to get outside and train. 50 degrees and sunny here today and I am loving it. Here is what I managed to squeeze in last month. I have no complaints. It felt like a good month of training overall. Naturally, I wish I got in a little more of everything. Seriously though, I felt like I worked hard and made some progress. March's totals: Bike: 16h 50m - 303 Mi Run: 7h 06m 04s - 42.8 Mi Swim: 2h 07m - 5600 Yd Strength: 55m Basketball: 1h 00m Snow Shoveling: 4h 00m As for my homework, I always feel like April is a good month to hit it hard. Here are my goals. B: 500 miles R: 85 miles S: 25,000 yards Str: 4 hours Weight: < 220 |

The past three days have been absolutely horrible for workouts. I'm fighting back spasms, I'm completely fatigued, no oomph in the workouts. I got nothin'. Could my little self-supported triathlon (1K, 27M, 3.5M) on Saturday really have taken that much out of me? I've also been STARVING ever since. I'd eat my arm if I thought it would taste good. On a happier note, there's no way I'd have fought through workouts the past three days without having to answer to you all! |

On a happier note, there's no way I'd have fought through workouts the past three days without having to answer to you all! Mike, looks like you basically did an olympic tri on Saturday minus a few miles on the run. If you pushed hard you very well could feel the impact over the next couple of days. It might also help to explain the hunger since. Your body might be looking for a little recovery and potentially some protein for recovery. The hunger can also be attributed to your recent build week and pushing over the weekend. You're starting to stoke the fire and your body is looking for the fuel to feed it. I have found that protein does help to fight off hunger pains better than carbs. Protein takes longer to break down and therefore gives you a full feeling longer. You might want to look at some recovery workouts, lighter on the intensity for a couple of days. Sometimes good rest/recovery is more effective in making performance gains than pushing it on all workouts. I had a poor week last week, family in town, kids on spring break and going through a bit of a training funk. It served as a mini recovery week and I feel way better this week, batteries are fully charged and I am ready to go. Edited by GRB1 2011-04-06 10:15 PM |

I'll be setting up a Logisitics Warehouse and Test Facility and it's going to be around-the-clock work for me starting this Thursday when I leave, and I won't be back until approximately late-October, early-November. Definitely before the Holidays. Unfortunately I will not have access to internet for the first few weeks, nor will I have time for anything but work. However, they are paying me a nice bonus to do this and I just couldn't turn down such an opportunity. So triathlon will have to wait until next year, and I look forward to logging back in this Autumn and seeing that everyone achieved there goals and trained consistently throughout the year. YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!! I'll miss everyone and I hope you all understand. ]I didn't even think anything of this. My company could call me tomorrow and say, "Hey, Mike, you're moving to Atlanta (yuck!)...Northern New Jersey (really yuck!), or Japan (!!!...would've been pretty cool until about three weeks ago)." Glad you're staying around, pardner...gotta run vicariously through you!
Mike, sounds like my employer About a month ago I was looking at spending the next year in a warm middle east location. I not sure what would be worse, New Jersey or Afghanistan, close call |

I thought about Saturday some more and the total volume was the longest workout for me, ever (other than some really low-HR, long, easy bike rides). 2:10 total pretty hard the whole time...explains a lot. You're going so fast that I can't even see you!! See updated response with the actual pictures. ahhh, now it came into focus....Look at all that green, very nice. How long is that path? About 3 1/2 miles through a state park. It connects to another trail, plus lots of good hilly roads around here. The other side of the river is a two-lane road with almost no traffic. If I want I can do endless 7-mile loops through the park, which is about 1 mile from my house. The most dangerous part of the ride is coming out onto the main street in front of my house, cold, trying to clip in. It's a 12-14% 1/4-1/3 mile descent in either direction, which then I have to climb to get home. No such thing as a "cool down" in these parts. The park is gorgeous this time of year. The forest floor is blooming and green as can be without the tree foliage covering it. In about another week it will be REALLY green down there, and then about a week after that I will have to wear a gas mask from all the tree pollen. |

Saturday holds a run in the morning, followed by coaching lacrosse (weather permitting, and it's not lookin' too permitting right now), followed by a wonderful day of cleaning the house to get ready for Easter. Provided we actually get something done around here, Sunday will be some sort of morning workout and then family fun day outside (supposed to be in the 70s). |

I thought Marcia was already on the top of the earth, didn't know you could go any further. Being that I've done nothing for days, I should be plenty rested for this weekend to get some decent training in. My daughters have swim lessons Saturday at a local high school that works real well for me to get a 5 mile track run in while they are swimming. One of my daughters has activity induced asthma which is pretty well controlled but swimming is what seems to affect her the most. So I'm somewhat distracted checking the blackberry while I'm circling the track. Speaking of swimming, I've found a coach that I will be seeing next week to help with my form or lack thereof. Although, looking at my swim volume so far this year, she may need to push me in the pool to get started. Edited by Sammeg 2011-04-07 2:44 PM |

Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED Mike, how is the back? My lower back hurts after hilly or windy bike rides. That hunger is most-likely your body telling you "I need recovery fuel". When that happens to me I try to refuel with almonds, apples, bananas, pears, grapes, carrots, sweet potatoes, lean meats (chicken, turkey, sushi!). I try not to satisfy those cravings with junk food, processed food or fast food. Those pictures are AWESOME. Thanks for sharing. |
