I want to PR this race because this is where it all started two years ago, however a little thing called life has cut into training this year so I feel I'm under prepared. I will go out and give it my best shot..I will post tomorrow evening after I get back home.. Have a great race Tim!! Go for the PR and smash it! |

Pro 5123 Canandaigua NY | Subject: RE: Kenj - triathletes in training CLOSED Thanks! Results turned out better than hoped for. I was hoping for a course PR but since this is a fairly hilly course compared to the fall HM I wasn't expecting best time for the half. Beat my previous best by about a minute and a half. Too many people so unfortunately Peter and I missed each other! Lots of races coming up though so maybe soon! |

Extreme Veteran 601 Cold Spring, NY | Subject: RE: Kenj - triathletes in training CLOSED Great job Ken! Here's my non-race report, i guess as a cautionary tale. I got my head wrapped around doing a duathlon with 7 loops in a 14 mile bike, and actually got pretty excited. Had a terrible night sleep, so was in no danger of oversleeping. Packed my gear and headed out in plenty of time (1 hr drive to race). Checked in, got my chip and bib and went back to get my bike and gear. Where are my bike shoes? Not in my bag or in the car, but home in the closet. I checked with the bike repair/maintenance tent and of course they have no reason to stock platform pedals. So i turned in my chip and headed home for a bike ride. Did a 50 mile slow ride for fitness, and a 3 mile hard brick run for penance for being such a knucklehead. If i hadn't already registered and paid for a bunch of races, i'd probably just train without racing until IMAZ...so my season started 0 for 2. I always thought that physical endurance would be my limiter, but it might just be common sense holding me back. |

I wasn't even thinking of the medal we get at the end and I can say that I am super excited about that, in fact it's my first medal ever. It was nice to be in my first event like this and shows me what I need to work on. I had a problem with drinking and riding so I might try out a couple of things to work on it. Excited for tomorrow because I am volunteering at the HM and I get to meet Kenj! It was nice to burn my calories this am because I just had a great burger with tons of stuff on it and I'm sure it wasn't low fat.
Nice Peter. Great job. Biggest thing? You overcame your fear and got it done. Remember that next time. Fear is a goddamn illusion. Move toward it and it evaporates. You rock. |

Master 1539 Sin City | Subject: RE: Kenj - triathletes in training CLOSED Bill - look at it this way, at least you got a good training day out of it. Went on the Irongirl course for practice yesterday...No problems climbing and getting to the turn around, and almost nailed it on the hydration. At the turnaround, I was faced with AWFUL headwinds! I I've done it quite a few times (and once I did it a little over 16mph avg, which is a huge course PR for me), but the winds were bad. :-( Then started on my run. My energy got a little depleted due to the terrible winds and hills. I'm SO glad that I decided to do this course before next Sunday's race! Felt like my run was one of those "terrible-once-a-month-run". I haven't had a bad run in quite a while, so I'm glad I got that out of the way! I will do the run course again. Hope everyone have a good week. Congrats to Ken on your race!

LOL. http://www.zazoosh.com/events/searchPhotos/524?bib=1042 Enjoy! Feels weird that my next tri is next weekend! Now I know my mistakes, I can fix it easily. I'll be visiting the bike/run course twice prior to get the feel of the run course. I know the bike course, so I'm not worried about that. The run course was changed, and it's a little bit more hillier than what I'm used to, but I should be okay if I don't try too hard! I *should* do better than last year's fiasco and better than 41:xx run. :-) I don't think I have ever seen anyone have as much fun during a race as you do Great pics!! |

Expert 943 Highlands Ranch, CO | Subject: RE: Kenj - triathletes in training CLOSED I spent much of this weekend focusing on triathlon which is a good thing. I bit the bullet and signed up for June race as I think I needed something to motivate me. I did a trainer ride and swam yesterday and Carla and I spent a couple of hours catching up and talking triathlon I spent this morning reading Be Iron Fit and plan to use one of the training plans offered in the book. Hopefully it will give me a bit of structure and momentum that I have been missing. Congrats to all who raced this weekend as well as all who almost raced |

New user 239 Walterboro | Subject: RE: Kenj - triathletes in training CLOSED Sorry I've been absent lately but I guess I've been a little mentally and physically tired the last couple of weeks. I think more mentally than physically but I took it a little easy and things are lining up a little better. I did my first OLY of the year Sat (2nd ever) and had a PR by almost 20 minutes from my last OLY. The run was still not very good but the bike was ok and my swim has improved dramatically. I've got a RR up. I had my first somewhat of a crash in the race Sat. As I was coming up the last hill on the bike into transition, another guy came racing up the hill to get by me. I always do a flying dismount and just assummed because he was racing so hard into transition that he would at least be in a hurry to get into transition. I was wrong. I was coming in and unclipped and just pulled my leg over the bike and was hitting the brakes getting ready to come off running when he stopped completely at the dismount line. There was no where for me to go when I got on the brakes except for over the handle bars so over I went. I was able to basically land on my bike with the bike on top of me and save the bike from any damage. It all happened in slow motion and when I figured out I saved the bike from any damaged, I laughed it off and considered it a lesson learned. Carla- Your bike was great. You're going to be fine in you IM. Ken- Good HM. I hope the shoulder is getting better. Any chance of you doing Florida 70.3? |

+1!!
Wesley, I usually don't spectate races, but once a year I support my wife Anne (who supports me or races with me most races) at the Chicago tri. I LOVE to sit by the bike in/out! It's a comedy show there! You'd be surprised the stupid things people do. Moral of the story.....expect ANYTHING at the bike in/out area! and be ready for someone to take you out! glad you weren't hurt! |

Veteran 344 Georgia | Subject: RE: Kenj - triathletes in training CLOSED Good Monday to all.. Well I completed the Olympic yesterday in 2:51 I will take it considering the lack of training this year..Wasn't a personal best but considering what life has thrown at me lately I'm very pleased..Did learn something about my Kswiss Kwicky light shoes, don't go sockless in these... Blisters started on both feet around mile two on the run right in the arch on both feet..This was a very mental game to push forward..I will write a RR as soon as they post the split times..Me and my garmin didn't get along yesterday..Hope everyone has a great week..Thanks for the support.. |

I don't think you were the only one that had doubts about the race setup and the potential disaster it might be come with that bike course. I saw another BT member had bailed out for the same reason. Glad you got a nice ride out of it anyhow Bill. In the big picture you probably got a workout more beneficial to the big picture of your race season! |
