Hmmm...20,000 posts, not gettin' it....cause/effect? You're insinuating that I'm not getting it is due to posting, but, actually, it's the reverse. Insinuating? no. Hypothesizing? maybe. Messin' with ya? You betcha! So you post because you ain't gettin' any? Surely there are other things you could be doing. You could train even more! If there were no kids, I WOULD HAVE!!! |

For me that is surreal. When I drive by to work on the mornings when the sun is out and the lake is calm, that's surreal. I'm hoping for that day on Sun. Sept. 13th! |

Elite 3491 In The Peleton | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Hola gang. I think I'm starting to get taper madness! And I'm not quite tapering yet!!! To the discussion of cassettes above--if you are having any difficulty climbing, go buy the bigger cassette! Last time I trained on 11-23 and raced on 12-27. Just spun up the hills, it was great. Use the big gear early and often. Makes the run that much better. Can't wait to see everyone in a couple weeks! |

New user 2 Salem, MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Thanks! I figure I will ship the full just in case and test the water the day before, but if the masses have no sleeves, then I think I will be just fine! Thanks!!! I must say I am a bit jealous of everyone that has already seen the course and the race sight, but I figure that will just add to the excitement when I finally get there in a few weeks! |

I'll be hitting the monona terrace around 5:50 so I don't suck :-) not super fast either. I'm able to keep watts below 280 with this set up. The solution is get lighter (hard to do at this stage of the game) or get more gears.
280 Average over 112?

280 is his ceiling, not his average. Big difference. |

Oh, I am working on getting lighter too....well not on purpose, just trying to get used to gatorade before the race and the gator gut is kicking in! Anybody else have trouble with gatorade?

Member 271 Ontario | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread ok, you guys. I tried to buy a 11-28 Dura Ace at the local bike shops around here....and the price 469.00 Canadian...so about 440.00 US...I could have gone Ultegra but I found a 11-28 DuraAce online for 190.00 Canadian, only about 30 bucks more than an Ultegra. NOw I have a problem....since I am not buying the part through the local shop, can I still get them to put it on for me? How hard is it to change a cassette myself? |

Veteran 176 Sun Prairie, WI | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread It's not hard, but you'll need a cassette tool (special tool to help you remove the cassette - a simple wrench won't do), and a chain whip. This should help: http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto.asp?id=48 |

They will charge you more than the one tool (chain whip) and other piece (nut thingy explained in stainofmind link above) costs. If you can change a tire, you can change your cassette, provided you have those two tools. Does anyone in your riding group or other training partners have those two things? Worth asking. Otherwise, you can always take it to the shop. I vote for getting the tools, as you can change them anytime you want. |

over a barrier | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread In this case, I might just take to the LBS. You may need to have some rear deraileur adjusts as well depending on what cassette you currently use. That is crazy $440 for a cassette!!!!!! Changing a cassette is pretty easy if you have the tools - even I can do it!!!!! |

Should be no more than USD$250 for a DA cassette. http://www.trisports.com/shul10ca.html ( use your BT discount to drop that even more ). Ultegra 10spd 12-27 for $100USD. Bring your rear wheel, the new cassette, smile nicely at the mechanic, buy a couple tubes, and they'll probably swap cassettes no problem.

If this is a one time shot and you are keeping it on the bike as is, the LBS can do it no prob.katherinel - 2009-08-21 1:15 PM ok, you guys. Elite 3687 | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread As mechanically inept I would say have the bike shop do it. My shop has changed mine for free a few times. I'd be surprised if they charged you much. Someone mentioned Gatorade gut. I have been using Gatorade Endurance all summer and thought it was going pretty well. I never had problems with it on the bike or run while working out. On the other hand I have had GI issues ALL SUMMER long. Was actually getting really worried and started tracking everything I eat and drink and all my runs to the bathroom (3-5 times a day). It finally dawned on me I have been having this problem since I switched over to G.E. Just not while actually working out. Been off for a few days and things have...uhhhh....solidified a bit. T.M.I. I'm sure, but I'm hoping this has been the source of the problem. If not I'm afraid I may have an appointment with Dr. Probey Stretchy very soon. |

Member 271 Ontario | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread So you know why Canada has a reputation of being really clean? We don't litter because everything costs too much to throw away! The difference in the dollar is about 10% right now put our prices are always considerably higher... it is especailly expensive for specialty stuff because we don't have the population to justify carrying so much selection. Most stores would have to special order it. That's why Canadians are always shopping over there or online. |

Bring your rear wheel, the new cassette, smile nicely at the mechanic, buy a couple tubes, and they'll probably swap cassettes no problem. Following up on this a bit further. There *is* a DA 11-28 cassette (I thought you had a typo). It is brand spanking new for the 7900 series, and does not look like it's "backwards" compatible with older DA/Ultegra drivetrains (if you believe Shimano). There's a compatibility chart here: http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/trisports/DA7900Compatibility.pdf It's also probably not a very common cassette, hence the much higher price. The 12-27 is well established and fairly popular and should be much more readily available for a decent price ( see the link above for one that is ~USD$100 ). I would suggest that unless you are dead-set on having a 28 tooth rear cassette, that a 27 tooth will do just fine (and be considerably cheaper). |
