Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 Florida : Official ThreadArrived at the race site around 12 noon today. We were quite early, so check-in was pretty much a breeze. Drove the entire bike course. Except for a couple of stretches of state highway, the roads actually look nice and smooth with very little traffic. There are some rollers between miles 25 to 35 (or so I estimated ), just enough to break up the course and make it more interesting. We also drove by a section of the run (the turnaround farthest South on the course map ). The Cube said it best, it truly looks like an "African Grassland." Seriously, it's pretty icky. I don't think this run is going to be very pretty for anyone. I was expecting the grass to at least be mowed down a bit. Maybe they'll get to it tomorrow?? I've never had to wear a full-size bib number on my back during the bike leg, so that is new to me. I'm just pinning all four sides to my Camelbak instead of messing with a race belt & flapping number. We also got to watch the space shuttle take off today. Where we live in FL, we can only see lift-off on a very clear night. So, to see it up close during the daytime hours was pretty darn cool! It looked like a glowing rocket! Hubby and I will be at Lucky's Lake for the 7:45AM swim tomorrow. There's a fundraiser pancake breakfast afterwards too! cpsdad-Oh my! I'm so very sorry to learn this. I can only imagine how you must feel, but 60 stitches! Wow! That's quite an accident! Sounds like it could have been a lot worse. There will be other 70.3 races for you... and with an bigger base, you'll be even more prepared to let 'er rip! Keep your chin up! |
