Now it's time to start worrying about things we can't fix.  What are the roads like?  Smooth as glass?  Duct-tape-the- hydration-in bumpy?  Wear a mouth guard to protect againast potholes?

The Beeline is pretty smooth - it was repaved right before the 2009 race (you ride on the road, not on the shoulder which still isn't too rough). There are a couple mildly bumpy spots on the roads out to the Beeline but generally they are very good - when I went out last time I thought they were WAY better than what we have at home in NorCal. Think Almaden Expressway-ish.

I'm not going to post my times.  I missed two entire weeks traveling abroad.  There is more to life than IM, sometimes...  And I wouldn't trade it for anything.  I still expect to cross the line before midnight.

Trust me, IM is FAR from the most important thing in my life, but just like with those other more important things in my life, I put in the work I feel is required to reach my goals.

Thats 2 for 2 Jackson, yes if I wanna finish I would train less and if I wanted to get to Kona I would train more. You put in what you expect to get out.

I'm curious.  For whom is this their first IM?  For the others, what number is this?

This one is my third.  The others being Silverman and IMSG...  I'm hoping to set a PR since the other two courses are a tad harder.

stltrade - 2011-11-03 10:04 AM Number 1 for me! Can't wait.

How exciting!  There is something special about the first, I think.  I don't think I can ever duplicate the feeling from the first.  MAYBE if I got to Kona or something (never will happen).

#3 for me. IMAZ '09 and IMCdA '11 before.  I definitely am wishful for a PR this year. I'm sure race day conditions will dictate some of that. '09 was a spectacular race for me, CdA was a rough race for me.  But I hope with two IM's under my belt, knowledge of the course, a course to my strengths, and well thought out execution will mean a PR.  Ultimately, I want to have fun and finish knowing I gave 100% on that day, given whatever conditions (weather or body) play out.

This is my first one also, have done 2 1/2 IM's and 8 marathons. Really just hoping to get thru the swim, enjoy the bike, and have a good run. I've put a lot of time in the pool and on the bike the last 6 months and have been running consistently for years so hoping for a good day.

This is my first IM too!! I always said I would never do an IM...I am proof that you should never say never!

I'm starting to freak out a little bit about the race. We're driving to AZ next friday (making it a 2 week vacation since we have family there) and my mind is going crazy trying to make lists of everything I'll need!

This will be my first full IM as well, and no better place to get it done than in my hometown.

I think it is fair to say that whatever my time, it will be a full IM PR for me.  HA HA

IM #2 for me - did IMAZ last year as well. I was disappointed with my performance last year. I am happy to have a chance to make appropriate corrections and (hopefully) have a great race this year. Kido - after Silverman and IMSG, this course should be a breeze! Congrats on having those two races under your belt. Chris

This will be my second....I did Coeur d' Alene in June.   Had a fantastic race there, but I KNOW I can go a good bit faster in AZ not only because of the course, but because of all the extra training I've done in the last few months.

Anybody know of a good donut shop in town thats open late?  After watching an episode of Man vs. Food last night where he was tasting a huge donut that was the equivallent of a dozen regular sized, I bet my wife that I could easily eat 12 in one sitting.   Once my stomach has settled after the race....I'm going to prove that I can!

First for me.  My wife and I picked this one because we wanted to turn it into a vacation.  We needed one late in the year, due to her job this is the only time she can take off.  She works at the STL ZOO.  Initial plans were to hike down the Grand Canyon and do some back packing through Arizona. Then hit the National parks in Utah and Colorado on the way back to STL.   Well the plans changed a little when she got pregnant with twins!  The babies are due in December so she is staying home per Doc's orders.  Will not be the same without her.

This will be my first IM. I also did my first half this year in August. I'm very excited. Regarding the training mileage stuff....I like to post it because it amazes me I've been capable of doing this training. When I looked at my plan a year ago these distances were unfathomable. Now, they aren't so bad really. I definitely agree that they don't really mean much except to the individual

Anyone know of a good place/time down there we can have a BT get together?

First full IM for me as well! Glad to know there are so many first-timers! Just looking forward to finishing the mass start swim - once I am on land I will be ok. Good luck everyone!

I didn't think I was going to, but I made up for my missed long swim and missed long run so far this week.  4000 meters on Monday and 3 hours of running today.  Felt good.  I'm thinking of getting in my missed long ride in this weekend.  It's not what my plan dictates, BUT, there are plenty of plans that only have a two week taper, so I may be doing that instead of the 3 week taper.
