Good morning FNG, how are you today?

I am good thank you. And you and everyone else?

My legs are starting to get stiff and sore but otherwise I am ready for a nap.... and cookies!

The roller is your friend.

My legs were trashed on Wed and today they have made that known.  I rolled them then, yesterday after rowing AND this morning.  No luck!

Cookies sound good!

Roll them with cookies perhaps?

Get one of those giant chubs of cookie dough .. put it in the freezer until its rock hard .. then use the hard chub to roll out the legs .. could work!

Worth a try if the roller didn't help. And if this fails you still get to make cookies.

Our office hit a big dealine today, so the boss is taking us out to go see Batman this afternoon and maybe a drink or two.

See, I agree with that.  Things like that don't cost thousands of dollars (like a holiday party) but are great for moral.

When I was "the boss" I'd do stuff like that for my people (there were only 11 of us) all the time.  Order in a fancy lunch on the weeks we were crazy busy.  Or have their cars detailed by one of those mobile services that come to the office.  Get each person a gift card to their favorite restaurant.  One year when we did really well we bought everyone a round trip plane ticket to go visit family or friends and gave them a few extra paid vacation days to use it.  Little things ..

One time, a simpler time, long long ago, I was the managing editor of five newspapers in Nebraska. Readership was up, the bosses were liking me so they gave me a bonus. None of my employees got a bonus, but I did. So I took them all out for a big dinner and drinks at a nice restaurant and gave each of them $100 Visa gift certificates. Honestly, I kept half for myself. They were all very appreciative, though, especially because times were tough.

No real story. Joined up a long time ago. Never really got into the site too much. Every now and again I'd check back in when I was thinking about something training related and poke around a bit.

Did the same thing recently and ended up posting a couple of times...I think a question about screen grabs on the iphone came up and I thought "I know how to do that"

So how did you figure out when I joined? And when was it by the way?

Wow those are not what I'd call 'little' things!
If we go way above and beyond, every once in awhile, we will get 2 movie tickets to the local theater. $20 value. Woot Woot. I wonder if I have to claim that on my taxes.

Oh once I got a $5 voucher to the company cafeteria. Shwing!

I agree, none of that is LITTLE!  I would occasionally get a $25 to $50 visa card.  i would KILL for an extra paid day off, with or without the plane tickets.  Now that I work for a publicly traded company again, I doubt I'll see any "little" things.

You could be my boss anytime. My fantasy, regarding bosses anyway, is that someday when we have one of those spectacularly beautiful Tennessee days that the lab director gets on the PA system and says,"It is much too nice today to sit at a desk. Everybody go do something fun, like ride your bike." He would say this in a British accent cause he British so we would know it was him.

In reality, the current lab director, when he just got the job, got caught up with all the cancellations on TV for snow (TN goes crazy) and called off work. This was a real first for the lab. We work through everything. When he realized what a huge overhead charge was going to go against the burden, he came back and said we had to work Saturdays and nights to make up for the missed time. It sucked. This year, he even changed the official policy for sick leave and time missed for snow so that  has to be made up as well.

I say Teejay for Lab Director!

The biggest thing I could ever do for my team when I worked at a big public company was give them extra time off (when they'd worked really long days etc) and run interference for them while they were off. It all nearly got stopped when one guy set vacation mail for a long weekend that I'd told him "to just take" and someone from HR got the vacation notice. Many hours were spent explaining that I knew it wasn't policy but it was the right thing to do.

Hot dogs and soda and chips?  Dirt cheap.  Something sort of good for you?  EXPENSIVE.  And yet another reason this country is growing obese.

Due to the economy, my LAST job completely got rid of holiday parties, picnics, etc...  But TO ME, that didn't mean they had to drop everything.  I'm serious, a $25 gift card to Starbucks would have been awesome and a good gesture.  Even if the boss had to go out of his pocket the 500 bucks (for 20 of us), he can afford it.  (yeah, easy to say when it's not MY money, I get that)...

But a couple hundred for good will?  I think it's worth it.  Heck, I would go out of my pocket to buy my immediate team of drafters a card and $10 bucks at starbucks.
