Want to help me with the question on the ethics of doping or should I ask lance ? :-) Okay - that actually made me spit take. Heal up Mindy - that's no fun. I had a bike fit about a year ago - but am thinking I should post up some bike video to see what ya'll think. What is important to capture on the video? Front/side/back/how long, etc...Elaine asked if there was any chance of run-gait analysis...I'd be happy to post some of that video as well as long as there are no comments about the basement background...does anyone have the experience to help with run gait? What would be important to capture for this one? Thanks all! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is contrary to Fred, but I miss my PM. I received a replacement from Cycleops but haven't bothered to build it into a wheel yet since I don't have a head unit. I did decide that I'll get the 910 - just makes sense for me. Riding without the PM I've found that I really miss the data feedback during and after the ride. I'm finding that it helps to both motivate and push me. Hopefully not too much longer. I'm going to the Toronto Bike Show this weekend so may find a deal. |

High exertion is known cause some level of immunologic compromise, on top of the fact that race day was a bit cool and the repeated irritation of my assumed already influenza infected chest probably took its toll. Its relatively rare for a young, healthy person without asthma, smoking, etc to wind up with bilateral pneumonia. The option that would explain that is H1N1 because it is known to have particularly devastating effects to the lungs but I think it is more likely a rampant secondary bacterial infection as evidenced by the green gunk I've been getting out. And my chest X-ray is the first bilateral pneumonia I've ever seen in someone less than 50 who didnt have some level of immunocompromise or history of lung pathology. Not that i have a ton of experience but Ive only seen small pneumonias in young people. Looking back: stupid decision to race. I'm paying for it now....axteraa - 2012-10-11 5:09 AM mndymond - 2012-10-10 9:34 PM So not to beat a dead horse about the activity+fever stuff, but: I ended up in emergency today because of shortness of breath and diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia. They let me see the chest x ray. It was a bit of a white out....badness..... YIKES! Take it easy and get well soon! Yikes x2, get well soon x100
Do you believe the race played a big part in it ? Would it have probably been avoided had you not raced ? If it makes you feel any better, which I'm sure it won't, I have been in your shoes exactly. I think I was probably around the same age, too. Actually, I also had bilat pneumonia last year. Little fuzzy on the timeline but the chances that I overexerted myself while still recovering are excellent. {MELON PRESS} I just hope you feel better soon, and I hope this lesson sticks for us both. I dunno, I'm awfully stupid. |

I clicked the pretend like button. That's pretty cool. lol, that's funny I'm off to Phoenix this morning so probably no training for me today. I'll just shift my off day. I never use to take a planned off day but have been the last few months. There is some irony that my training is half of what it use to be and now I am taking an off day. I might hike or something along those lines on that day though and some of my hikes are harder then my training days so not sure I really nailed down the concept yet. |

If you have an aero helmet, maybe wear that to see how well it fits with your position. |

If you have an aero helmet, maybe wear that to see how well it fits with your position. x2. Try to make sure that the camera is 90 degrees to the bike on the side shot and roughly the same height as the seat. I've learned a lot more from these videos when I do them at the end of a ride rather than at the beginning, I think because I ride more naturally at that point, not 'posing for the camera' (though that's of course possible even when you've been riding a while). Run gait: I'm no expert, but I have been a party to some studies that had gait as a component (combined with force plates, though, which I'm guessing we don't have access to...). I would suggest that while glaring problems could be found via standard video, it is hard to do much more than that, especially without a high speed camera. |

One more thing is to make sure that you are pedalling under load (approximately race effort is best) and that you've warmed up for at least 10 minutes before taking the video. Shane |

Been riding it for 4 years, I have one on both my bikes I run 10-15 mpw and am thinking of starting something more like the BarryP plan because I only run 2-3 times per week but I want to start increasing my mileage in a safe way. I had knee surgery last year and my knee will never be 100% but it's doing really well averaging 12mpw. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Slowly opening the door and peeking inside......Hi there. Back in August Fred invited me to this group. I have been hesitant to come in, since I really have no idea what a mentor group does. But I figured it was time to say hello. Looking back over the last few pages, this looks like THE place to be. I was never at the cool kids' table before, so I won't know how to act. I'll just follow goosedog's lead. That should help. (no pink font option on my iPad.) |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well it took 12 miles and 3000yds swimming to make me tired today. I have now hit 43 miles of running for this week. My swimming speed is affected and just felt blaa in the water today. I know some were discussion running cadence. I took my cadence the past 3 runs. 8 miles @92, 6 miles @90 and 12 miles @92. This is the only time I have ever count my running cadence. |
