Ok, I never really got my target for March written down b/c I am kinda not following a real plan. So I am 'out' for the March Challenge. I did some quality work and made some nice improvement in my running and swimming (started running in Oct and swimming in Dec). So both of those are new to me (sorta). Not sure how my numbers would work for a 70.3 plan but they are below. I am feeling good going into April. I really appreciate all the ups and downs ya'll are sharing. Those anecdotes really help in several ways - thanks for sharing.

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got my second ever brick workout in. 1200 Meter swim and a 2 mile run. It was amazing to finally get outside and run. Took 2 min off my time from running on the tracks. Tomorrow will be a nice early bike ride. Thinking another 20-30 mile ride depending on the time I have before Easter Lunch. I am thinking I am getting close to being ready for my first Olympic distance race in May. I keep looking at everyone's training times and miles and thinking DAMN! Will I ever get there so I can do a HIM or IM next year? Next question.... I am trying to decided on a couple things to buy for my bike. I am looking at getting a water battle setup for on the aero bars. Is this needed for only Sprint and Olympic distances? Also looking to get a speed bag for the top tube and a bag for behind the seat for tire change items. Any suggestions as to what type of bags and what to fill them them with? |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I didn't come close to meeting my goals for March. (Swim 14,295.61/29,150 Bike 147.61/347.50 Run 80.7/122.20) I guess that is what happens when you throw in my daughter's wedding and a race that you have to travel to. Oh well! No time to rest now. I have my first HIM 33 days! UGH! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Drumroll for totals!!!!............................... Didn't hit any of my goals. ![]() (but I had a good month for IM training) Bike - 449.5 (700 miles) Run - 38.42 (85 miles) Swim - 19,200m (22,000m) I'm actually impressed with my bike mileage....not so much with my run especially since I'm IM training. I have a month and 17 days (47 days) left. I have another pretty tough month, then trailing off the first week of May, a 9 day "taper", then 3 days off, then RACE DAY!!!!! May 18th will be here REALLY soon. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So proud of everyone having a great month training, wish I could join in, but I am still battling this cold. I thought I was going to be able to start running again today, but I coughed and hacked the entire 1st mile and figured I wasn't healed yet. So I am looking to go get the powerful medicine stuff and try like everything to knock this out. Two years ago I battled Bronchitis and never really let it run its course and it took me months to get over, so I am trying to be smarter this time around! |

I was supposed to go for a swim workout this morning, but I'm still trying to knock out the chest infection/cold also. My son is much better now. He's just like me. Lungs and head is still full of junk and we both cough to try and get it up. I'm hoping to kick this soon also because it needs to go away. The weather is changing to Spring and I'm itching to get training. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Did not hit my goals for March, just too much family stuff, spent last week traveling with my wife and son looking at colleges. I got in one good swim , and one run last week , but when I got back I put my nose back to the grind stone, and hit some good numbers Sat and Sunday. my goal is to not miss a single training session this week. I just need to stay consistent. |

S: 8:20/13:45 (60%) B:13:51/25:45 (54%) R: 13:17/14:50 (89%) Pretty ordinary month really. 10 weeks to go for me! I think it just got really real on Saturday during my long bike that it was really going to hurt and it wasn't too far away! |

I really want a PR on May 19th! I am hoping to get back this weekend. This weather is not helping any! We are going from 40 degree days to 70 degrees and then back to 40 degrees! crazy weather! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok I think I am actually starting to get a bit nervous about my race. Had my first bad IM dream - I can't remember exactly, but I think I forgot one of the wheels for my bike and/or I had a flat tyre. Maybe it is because I started preparing my lists of things I need to do the day before and pack into bags, etc. It's getting close! |

Stuart, I think having a bad IM dream is not that uncommon, I have heard many people having similar dreams before a big race. Check lists are never a bad idea though. I usually pack and repack my tri bag at least three times before I travel to a race! |

I had one within a few days of registering for IMTX.....yeah....that bad. I have had them before, mainly before races.....and I'm sure that I'll have another one (or 6) leading up to IMTX. |

Absolutley horrible week for training. Just tired and not sleeping well. I will jump back in tomorrow with a 3.5 hr ride and run on Sunday. Need a little jump start - ZAP! Dreams: I haven't had any bad triathlon dreams but I have had some freaking nightmares racing mtn bikes and road bikes! Real ones - not the dream stuff: crashed during a mtn bike race that ripped the seat off my bike, been stitched up in a parking lot and once had an entire wave of racers pass me as I was trying to repair my bike. I sleep easy now. Nothing worse will happen to me. Well, hold that thought - that OWS has me nervous to be honest. James: just watched 2 vids on Redman. That looks like a fast and racer friendly course. Maybe I should go for the 'full meal deal' and consider the full 140.6. maybe that is too much for year 1. Lots of sun on run course - no shade. |

Maybe it is because I started preparing my lists of things I need to do the day before and pack into bags, etc. It's getting close! I read this yesterday and had my bad HIM dream last night! I have one before almost every big race. I was surprised by this one because my race is still 30 days away. I usually don't have them this early. I hope this is the only one. I forgot my running shoes and a volunteer made me late for what turned out to be more of a scuba diving for treasures swim than a normal distance swim. I have come to love these dreams. They make great stories when I have long runs with friends. |

I am glad it is you, not me. What school did your son/daughter choose? senior or junior? My daughter starts college next August. I know the 'deal'. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, I completed a Spartan Race over the weekend, I should have been more excited about it, but it was more about getting yet another distraction out of my way and get on with my training. It was slow , I didn't want to re-injure my ankle, but it was alot of fun. Speaking of fun, I have a 3 hour training ride scheduled for tomorrow, now that's fun! How was everyones weekend? |
