Member 34 Tampa | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED All ready for my next try at a 5k on sat (turtle trot) down near the beach. been streching and going to the chiro 2x a week, so hopefully i make it to the race and actually finish this time. You guys peaked my interest on this whole cross bike thing. I live on the outskirts of a rural area and we have tons of trails and i'd much rather do my training there than on the roads. (working in a trauma center makes me extra scared of riding on the road, sometimes even the sidewalks). So if it's something i can take on the trails and also use for tri racing i'd be set. |

New user 431 Hingham, MA | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Jen - Good Luck on your 5k!! I hope your sciatica pain has gone away. Mine only lasted a couple weeks, thank god, it stopped me in my tracks it was so painful. Now I am having some slight ITB pain on the outside of my knee but started hitting the trails instead of the asphalt and that has seemed to help. I also bought a new pair of sneakers because I was up to around 500 miles on the old ones. I heard that you should replace sneakers every 500 miles or 6 months. Is this something the sneaker companies say or do you think that is the right way to go. Has anyone else heard of other rules on replacing sneakers? Thanks James |

Member 1083 | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Be careful with the itbs. Once it starts it can be hard to get it back under control in my experience. For me avoiding big jumps in running mileage is key tonpreventing itbs. I have also had good luck with foam rolling, stretching, and actually chiropractic helps me. Also, doing strength work like leg lifts, lunges and stuff I think help keeps it from happening. |

83 | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Got my coffee cup in today. Thanks for that. Also, I have finally got back on weight loss track after the big run. I have a few questions. I have noticed my muscle size has increased dramatically with the change in exercise. Normal?Next? I have been using KT tape that has been helping quite a bit with a suspected plantar fasciitis issue. Any problems noted from long term use?Having trouble pulling 5k time down. Any ideas? |

New user 431 Hingham, MA | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Glad you got the mug David, it is pretty heavy so it should really help building up the arms! Thanks Amy on the ITB Info. I ran 11 miles total yesterday but the ITB started acting up again after 8 miles on the pavement. Luckily I reached the high school and ran the remaining 3 miles on their new track (very nice) and I was fine. Actually started running 200's out of boredom for the entire 3 miles and finished very strong, well kind of strong (Ha! Ha!). Hope everyone is having a great weekend - stay safe out there!

Member 1083 | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Happy Monday everyone. I for one had a busy workout. I went to a computrainer center nearby me (well not too nearby actually - an hour away) and rode part of the IM France course. It was fun in a crazy hard sort of way. If you can find a center like this near you it's a pretty cool thing because you can "race" the people around you. Much more entertaining than a solo trainer ride. Of course almost anything is more interesting than a solo trainer ride :-) Then Sunday morning I did my long run super early by myself. Running in the dark with a flashlight by myself if not really my thing. I convince myself that every shadow is a snake that's going to jump out and get me plus I ran through about 11 spider webs which is just ... eewwww. I know, such a girl. But I got it done which is the important thing. |

Member 34 Tampa | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Hope everyone had a good weekend, my 5k went well, took 6th in my age group and 79th out of 420overall. Had great energy througout. It was a trail run thru a park, so it was diff having to run on so many diff surfaces( pavement, grass, Dirt, Sand). And one min you're running on a wide open street then ur ducking thru a trail for a quarter mile that's only 2-3ppl wide, so jockeying for position was key. Can't wait to sign up for another one next month!! |

New user 431 Hingham, MA | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Hi everyone, I have started to write something a few times this week about what has happened up here in Boston and have stopped because I know I could never capture my feelings on how sorry I feel for the people killed and injured by this senseless act. My thoughts and prayers go out to them and their families. The people that perform these senseless acts of terrorism try to hurt us by intimidation but they don't know runners, swimmers, bikers and triathletes. We will not let this stop us from our training and attending our events, although we are competitors we are family and let the evil in the world know that acts such as this make us even stronger. I would like to thank the first responders, the law enforcement agencies, the medical teams and all the other good people that have reached out to help those affected by this tragic event. All of them have displayed the true kindness that is inherent in our culture and will be enthused exponentially by this event. Edited by JREDFLY 2013-04-20 8:52 AM |

Member 1083 | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED I'm not sure what VisionQuest is but it is supposed to be like "riding" the course. It's your bike put on a bike trainer which adjusts the difficulty based on the course. You can see the course profile and I think sometimes even video of the route. mcenteno - 2013-04-15 12:38 PM is the Computrainer rides the same thing as VisionQuest? Member 1083 | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Okay so this is the end of a big training week for me. Probably explains why I haven't been on here much - also I was stunned silent by the events in Boston. But to recap my training for the week (drum roll please) .... 9 hours of bike training including a 100 mile ride yesterday. 4 hours and 8200 yards of swimming 4 hours and 54 minutes of running which is just over 20 miles. Grand total of 17 hours and 57 minutes. Makes me tired just writing it down In other news I want to make shirts for my family to wear on my Ironman race day. I'm trying to think of cute things it could say. I haven't come up with anything - so clever suggestions are appreciated. |

WOW!!! Very impressive training, a 100 mile ride on the bike is awesome. I hope that new bike seat is working out for you. For a cute saying for your kids to wear I really like the name Miami Amy, so maybe something like Miami Amy is My Mommy would be cool. Or I always like the "I'm with Miami Amy" and you could wear one saying "I'm Miami Amy". It is nice to finally get some good weather up here and getting the bike out. Still working on the swimming thing, slowly but surely. Edited by JREDFLY 2013-04-22 6:50 AM |

New user 431 Hingham, MA | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED Hi Andrea, I heard that guy runs a quality event. He ran the tri expo I went to in March at MIT that had Mirinda Carfrae which was a great event. You can actually look it up in BT and people that have done it give a description. With just starting to get into it I have been looking to the ones that have ocean swims. Not sure if you are tied to that date but there is one in Hyannis on 9/7 and one on Martha's Vineyard on 9/9 which would be very cool. Google "Triathlons in Ma" and you will get a list on Trifind of what is out there. Hope this helps. |

Member 1083 | Subject: RE: Mamma Amy Knows Best - Mentor Group Year One - CLOSED It's Friday again! Thanks for asking about the saddle - the new saddle is fantastic. No issues at all and after 100 miles if there were going to be issues it would be obvious. So that's super good news. This weekend I'm off to St. Pete for my last race until France - st. Anthony's. it doesn't really fit in my training but - oh well it should be fun. Andrea - I know nothing about New England races so I'm no help there. Sorry. But I do love to vacation and race - good fun! Have a good weekend everyone. |
