HI Gretchen, I'm sorry to hear it but absolutely understand and am feeling the same way here. I've got IMLP at the end of July and I'm basically where I'd like to be if it were January on my training plan. Unfortunately I had already deferred in 2018 due to a death in the family so this year is it. At this point I don't know if I can even get the time off from work but since my husband's sister and two cousins are coming to town to race also I may go do a portion of it at least and collect my swag since I'll be losing around $700 if I don't race. Ugh.

My mojo has been lost as well with work training taking up my focus and now that I'm back from that (at least the simulator portion) I feel like I'm starting from square 1. Life throws stuff at you just to see what you'll do. Smart on you for taking a step back and focusing on consistency, endurance, and strengthening your base. You will rock it in 2020!!

Hi All, After a pretty painful look at where I stand in my training versus where I need to be to complete a full at MiTi in August, I've made the difficult decision to postpone MiTi until 2020. We sit 18 weeks out and I'm at zero consistency in workouts, way behind where I need to be in base building, and my mojo has wandered away. After an email exchange with my coach, I think it best to concentrate this year on the HIM level and continue to build my base up to be able to finish MiTi with a smile on my face and uninjured.

I can't say I'm not disappointed, but when I made the decision to go for it and signed up, I didn't know I was going to get sick for two straight months or that both my wife and I would have surgery in a 6 week window. Life has stuck its head in my lovely training bubble and it certainly got in the way.

I did a 1 hour interval workout with intervals at 125% FTP this morning--ouch. Off to run a couple of miles now.

Hi all! I just spent the last hour catching up on everyone's lives!

Gretchen: glad to hear the surgery went well and with all the new oxygen you'll be getting, you will crush your goals!

Mike: I hope your back is feeling better soon!

Nicole: well dang, girl, I just hope you get some consistent electricity!! Sheesh!

John: It looks like you're adapting well to warm weather! hahaha. To let you know, it is 33 degrees here today (yes, F) and raining. Just lovely.

Bullfrog: Gosh that's scary dealing with chest/heart issues. I hope everything stays okay and someone can find some answers for you. Kudos for getting yourself to the doctor.

I got back from Louisville last Wednesday night, got an hour trainer ride in on the Kick'r but still haven't signed up for any apps for it yet. Spin class today but other than that, not much. I've been trying to get unpacked and repacked. I was supposed to drive out back down to Louisville today to start flying on Thursday but the schedule got messed up so I'll leave on Friday instead. It's a 2 day drive which is a pain but I'm bringing an old car down to use as my crashpad car there so after this I'll be able to fly back and forth. I ended up leaving my road bike down there along with my mag trainer so i can hopefully get some rides in while I'm on reserve waiting to get called in.

As I mentioned in my post to Gretchen I have no idea how I'm going to pull of a run at IMLP in July or even IMMT 70.3 in June with no training under my belt. Playing everything by ear at this point and don't even know if I can get the time off to even race, but I'll do the best I can at this point with some form of something. Next year my schedules should start to even out and I'll get a little more time off.

Oh! I have had some lovely beers but haven't uploaded the pictures from my phone yet so can't post them here! I'll work on that! haha! Cheers all and again, thanks for posting, it helped to keep me sane in that hotel room!

Headset bearings?  I haven't tackled this myself, and keep wondering if a headset replacement is in my future with my stuck/stripped cap bolt.  Let me know what you find!

It's rare that the barings themselves would be worn down, the races typically wear first. If I'm lucky, I just need to re-grease and tighten everything. Given theres no vertical play & the age of the bike, it probably means replacing the head set.

My old bike has a threaded headset & quill stem, yours would be a newer threadless headset. From what you've described, I think at worst you should only need to replace the cap, the bolt, & maybe the star nut. It seems to me like you should have had to put a lot of force into it to strip the bolt.

Two easy solutions come to mind; first did you loosen the clamping bolts on the stem? That could be squeezing the steer tube & causing issues. Next would be to try to put upward pressure on the cap as your unscrewing the bolt. Once the stem bolts are loose, pulling up on the stem should be enough. Or if you can lever a guitar pick, credit card, or screwdriver (careful not to damage the cap or spacer) under the cap. Depending on where in the steer tube the star nut is, and how long the bolt is, you might have to do a lot of unscrewing to get it off, but the headset should loosen up after a half dozen turns or so.

1:10 run today. I either have to start getting up earlier to run or need to start carrying water. Even at 68F, by the end I was thirsty!!

Am I being cynical thinking that the Ronde for your first ever pro win is a bit suss? Or has he been close in other races?

I didn't see the race itself but this summed it up pretty well for me

The lead group was disorganized and not willing to do any chasing.  QuickStep was in a position to do it (I believe they had 3 riders in the group), and didn't.  My amateur analysis is they all thought one guy alone in the wind couldn't survive a chasing group with that far to go, but then they didn't organize and chase him down.

1:15 bike this morning on the trainer and 30’ run this afternoon in swirling 32mph winds. Nothing like being literally blown across the road to make you appreciate the power of wind.

I couldn't post at all yesterday - kept getting a 'site restricted contact your administrator' error....

Gretchen - sorry to hear you are going to defer esp since you had the coach for this year!  It absolutely makes sense though given the illnesses and surgery.  This has been a very un-Gretchen year!!

Jenn - sorry to hear for you too!  Too much life getting in the way.  I hope you're able to cobble some training together and do at least some of the race!  Also - love the beer pics!!

Riles - thanks for the tips!!!  I'll give those things a shot - loosening the stem bolts before trying to undo the cap bolt, and prying up on it (I have plenty of guitar picks to try!).

37 minute run this morning...I was hurting so stopped a little early to walk the rest of the way home. This is my longest run in awhile, and I was running at 8:45 pace, so faster than I've run in awhile also. It's a good sign that I can run that fast, but still need to get some miles in the next couple weeks before this race I have coming up.

Heading to a bachelorette party this weekend, but hoping to take it relatively easy tonight so I can get a quick run in before a winery tour in Charlottesville!

Nicole that pretty much describes my run on Wednesday, except I've been running consistently...

Have fun this weekend!

45’ run this morning. Felt pretty good, despite the fact I fell down the stairs at my house yesterday and am quite sore in a couple of places. I tell you what—I’m about done with 2019 and it’s illness/injury/medical issues all ready. It better shape up!

Gretchen!! What the heck?! You poor thing! Hopefully some bruises but no twisted ankles or anything?

I’m on my drive to Louisville again, stopped in Cleveland for the night. I was going to jump on my last 5 hours of driving early but spotted the gym on my way to the elevators and it’s really nice so I might do a little something tomorrow morning before I blast out.. (depending on how long I sleep)... ??

2:00 on the trainer this morning. A long time for the trainer, but I’d do it again if it got me out of driving two hours to meet my in-laws for lunch.

The fall down the stairs didn’t end up being too bad. One bruise on the back of my left calf, but nothing else to show for it, thankfully!!

Thanks John. I've got my first sprint of 2019 on Sunday. In my head I know I'm ready. I've been training consistently, I've been training for an Olympic distance, I feel fast, & I feel strong.

For some reason I have a little bit of nervousness in my stomach.

Gretchen, 2 hours on the trainer, your a glutton for punishment! 1:30 is about my best and I thought my but was going to fall off at 1:10.

Hope everyone has a good training weekend!

Looked at Bettiol's palmares now and no longersuss! He's come first in a few time trials and was very good when younger. Sometimes when you don't follow a team it makes it harder to judge a rider. Being in Britain we get a lot of Sky coverage but I actually support Europcar...Direct Energie...Total Energie, whose new kit reminds me of an old Garmin Sharp kit.

Maybe do the aquabike? Socks who used to post on here is queen of aquabikes at IM level. Tbh to me that sounds perfect: no need to ruin a day out by running at the end of two lovely sports! The third leg can be post race beers of course!

Even I hate your Sunday workouts! My workout today consisted of drinking this:

and watching this:

Yesterday I did a 10.68 miles ride around some shiny houses (i.e. not mine!!!)
