tahrens - 2009-08-26 1:41 PM Reuben,  I second the aero setup on the road bike.  Perfect way to race and learn about the aero position.  Personally I've discovered I prefer the drops to the aero bars and will probably remove them now that I have a tri bike, but I never would have learned that without the setup.  And riding in the aero position is more taxing on your upper body than you are use to so winter rides on the trainer are a great way to get use to it.  Go for it.

Suzy, I'll get excited for you!   We can match and now you can have 2 twins in the mentor group!!  And I'll send you a PM about the chaffing.... I am nervous about offending anyone. Embarassed

X4 or whatever we're up to Reuben, that is what I did with my road bike earlier this year.  It is a good way to get used to the aero position.

Tracy, does that mean we'll be triplets???    actually, just sent u a pm about the bike saddle tips.

Hey, I feel left outYell.  Where are my Kim tips?  I mean Tracy must like me more, she sent them to me a long time ago.....Boo-Hiss on you. JK.

I'm going to blow off some steam with the big boys....since last nights swim was cut short, I am heading to OWS class which is normally reserved for the super swimmers aka IM athletes.

Yeah Ruben x whatever, I rode my first year on a road bike with clipons.  You can get a decent position that way, not as good as a tri-bike but much better than a plain road bike.

For those that added clip ons to their road bike, did you also add a forward seat post?  My goal for the winter is to get a tri bike, but I promised myself (and my wife) that I had to put 2,000 miles on my road bike first.  That means I'll be spending some time on the road bike this fall/winter and was thinking about adding clip ons.

Long time no see, Adam, hope you are well.
I did not need a forward seat post, but my seat was definitely moved forward a little bit -I luckily was not all the way forward on the rails in my road bike position.  As I recall, my stem was flipped also to bring the handlebars down a little bit.  (I think.
And my promise to self (and my SO) was 2000 miles on my roadie, too...which I hit when I finished my HIM this year!  nice little goal...nice little reward!

I didn't but if I did I would have gotten a better fit.  I was looking at them about the time I figured out how to get a tri-bike.

I was planning on just doing for the trainer this winter and a little road riding, but you all have me convinced to to do it and ride the crap out of it.  My wife mentioned at dinner tonight she'd be interested in getting her bike aero fitted as well.

Now, Tony, are going to let us in on your secret?  How do you get a tri-bike?

Got the frame for Xmas < 900 bucks

Bought 90% of the parts from e-bay, craigslist, Slowtwitch & BT over the next 4-5 months so not a lot purchased at one time, played the market basically, know what each part goes for and jump on any deals, but for the most part made sure that the parts were what I wanted, mostly Dura-Ace 7800 on the bike, and ultegra where it didn't matter as much (brake calipers, Cassettes and such).

That was hard for me as I am not patient when it comes to buying stuff.

I like getting these e-mails from Saris, there is usually good info in them.

http://app.bronto.com/public/?q=preview_message&fn=Link&t=1&ssid=9243&id=7ge6kqcak1hev7qlhfdttmh1burop&id2=2xxym6pi6apr2mogrytaxgvvrnihm

This has some info on climbing and always has info on power type workouts.

I think there are only a couple fishies in our group, for the rest of us, please see this thread for our new wetsuit for next year.

Yes read that again, 8-10mm of rubber, lol Suzy and Kim might ride completely above the water hovering about a mm with that much flotation and their size.

There was another thread about the 5mm rule for wetsuits. There is really no rule so Desoto made a wetsuit with more rubber.  This thing should fly.

Well I'm glad to hear I do not suffer alone.

Last year I happened to get a Garmin 305 before him - not sure how that happened.  But he just about burst at the seams w/ gadget envy.  It almost killed him.  Needless to say, a month or so later he had a new toy!
