Subject: RE: TAN #64 - A Case of Temporary InTANitySprint_DA - 2009-01-14 2:34 PM Aikidoman - 2009-01-14 4:29 PM OK - Tri talk. My new RPE based plan has me doing a "Tempo" ride tonight at RPE 5-6. That middle/high zone 2. Z2 is NOT tempo, IMO. Z3 = tempo in my book. If the other was the case, all my training rides have been tempo. I'm really starting to get frustrated with all the zones/names/titles. I'm leaning towards Scouts' theory. There is easy/moderate/hard. Everything else is too open to interpretation. Easy/moderate/hard makes sense. So you're saying that the "recommended" zone for tonight is easier than you would ever go? I would definitely just go harder.
Probably, for a tempo ride. I could have just been wrong in the first place. But zone 2 stuff, I can do for hours/days. That doesn't sound like Tempo. I figure Tempo is something just short a 10k pace - so pretty hard, and can't be held for more than 45-60 minutes, I'm thinking. I guess to be clear, I'm happy with the RPE and HR relationship, they are about spot on. But in this case, calling it a 'tempo' bike and then say it's Z2 and/or RPE 5-6 is not right. If they said RPE 7 or Z3 for tempo, I wouldn't be complaining. So do I do a 'tempo' ride or Z2/RPE6? Knowing the 'intention' of the plan, I'm thinking tempo. Edited by Aikidoman 2009-01-14 4:50 PM
