But it won't rain, so we don't have to worry about it. ;-) It will be covered by a carpet regardless, and you won't have much speed nor need it through this area.  If any morons pass you and plaster themselves on the steel grating laugh at them because they deserve it.  going slow on this little bridge will have no bearing on your race. I don't think that it was covered last year for the half, however, I do remember that it was not an issue. The carpet covering is worse than a wet grate. I'll be just as happy if they leave the thing off, wet or dry. |

Regular 233 Clermont, Florida | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread rwjones - 2011-10-25 2:30 PM Bought some booties (Neo Sport 2mm) from Amazon thinking they'd be nice to have on for the jog to T1. Tried them out in the pool and they not only feel strange but are literaly - a drag. Big difference between bare feet and booties. I say leave them at home. The over/under on the water temp is probably 68. See everyone in a few days! Rich #505 I used booties from ProMotion in 2009. I am a slow swimmer, but fortunately someone told me to make sure to put on the booties before the wetsuit so they are firmly secured inside the wetsuit legs. Like I said, I'm a slow swimmer, but didn't really see any difference and they made the run to T1 easier. That said, since I'm a Florida boy, I will be once again wearing my cap and booties (no gloves). Hate to be cold, and 68 is darn cold for me. Not sure I can still find my man card to give up after all the years of marriage. Travel safe and have fun! |

Regular 51 Alpharetta, GA | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread Happy water-proof transition bags: night/morning, pre-swim, T1, and T2. Two reminders: bring quarters for meters, and start 3-day prep plan (hydrate, reduce caffeine and fibers, burn incense, whatever). And I decided to go with the Blue Seventy swim socks. Better happy than sad, and not going to affect my drifting than barely passes for swimming. Good luck everyone, and have fun! Edited by jbjb110 2011-10-26 9:22 AM |

Extreme Veteran 392 Raleigh | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread OOOO... 3 days... I'm getting "happy feet". Just ordered a r**n jacket <if I don't mention it - it won't happen> and hat from Real Cyclist for the bike ride just in case. Should be at the door step when I get home for lunch. I hope this is one of those NC weather patterns where "it" comes and goes the day before the forecast calls for "it". |

Master 1770 Bedford, MA | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread The latest forecast now has only a 10% chance of showers on Saturday, but it does look like there will be a NW wind, which will be a headwind for the first part of the bike ride. With water temps in the upper 60's, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. That's the perfect temp - two swim caps and you should be good to go. The temperature should be 50+ by the time we start the bike - no need for many extra layers there either. Minimize those transition times! I'll be a on a plane this time tomorrow - I can't wait!!! |

Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread What are you planning to wear on the bike? I'm undecided on vest and toe covers. Right now, accuweather is calling for a low of 48, a high of 63 and breezy conditions. 50-60 is sort of a transition zone for me in terms of what I wear. I'm wearing tri shorts, arm warmers and a cycling jersey. Are you going with a zipper cycling vest or just a temporary solution like zip lock bag (or newspaper) under your top? Also, toe covers on your cycling shoes or leave the vents open? Thanks! |

I am sure my feet and hands will be cold about 3/4 into the race but not too horrible. BIKE: sleeveless base layer with a long sleeve cycling jersey/ jacket (it's kinda mid-weight and full zip), tri shorts (under the wetsuit) and my Sidi cycling shoes with socks instead of my Sidi tri shoes. Depending on the final weather situation, my new rain jacket will be in my back pocket or on. RUN: sleeveless Nike Pro shirt <debated wearing this under cycling jersey as base layer but figure I would rather have something clean & less wet/ sweaty for the run> and depending on the weather my Adidas rain jacket. |

New user 19 | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread I am thinking sleeveless jersey for the bike with tri shorts and arm warmers. I am debating subbing out the arm warmers for a super light full zip jacket that I can stash in the bag on my bike if I warm up too much. no toe covers. |

Expert 1099 Bedford, NH | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread I've not gotten too hot because of toe covers. If you're not sure if you should wear em or not, I would recommend doing so. I'm planning to wear mine as of right now. I'm flying to NC tomorrow morning. If I don't meet you before the race, I will be at the prerace dinner tomorrow night and possibly the Friday morning swim, best of luck to all of you!!! |

I've worn my toe covers on all of my rides in the 50's, so I will just leave them on. Better safe than sorry. If the weather holds out, I'm going with sleeveless tri top, plastic baggie, arm warmers. If rain creeps back in, I'll substitute a jacket for the baggie and warmers. I was surprised at how well the plastic worked on my practice rides. My wife laughs at me, but that's par for the course! :-) |

You can always ditch them if you think they are too much. I am going with socks and hoping for the best BUT I don't own toe covers so there's that... |

Master 2426 Central Indiana | Subject: RE: Beach2Battleship Iron Distance Triathlon : Official Thread kenbert61 - 2011-10-25 9:00 PM One more word of advice to my fellow BTers...The Town Of Wrightsville Beach is a wonderful little beach town with friendly people and very good facilities, the town budget I am sure is funded by parking tickets, and they are relentless. There is free parking in the park at T1 just about everywhere else is .25 cents for 8 minutes and 2.00 an hour. 6am -6pm +1 Drove the length of WB (N-S) this afternoon to check out the area & no free 'near-beach' parking that I could see. And when I stopped to park in one of the city lots a meter maid suddenly appeared to help me feed the meter. Spent about an hour with DW walking the surf barefoot & water temp was fine. No numb toes or anything. |

Not happening, as I sip my nightly bourbon. Sorry oldteen, but I am sure your swig will be great post-race. Man, I hope this weather forecast locks in. Sun means energy. Energy means fun. Therefore, sun means fun. Any BTers doing B2B as first Half or Full? If I were with an event company I'd do a special medal presentation for newbies at the awards ceremony. It's a big f'n deal. |

I think that I'll leave them on for Saturday. Next question, for those of you doing the swim on Friday, I assume that you are wearing your wetsuits. Do you anticipate any problems with drying it out before getting into it on Saturday morning? |
