Good morning manatees!

Are any of you vegetarians?  For the last 14 months I've been eating a mostly veg. diet  - she says while eating a piece of bacon    I usually have meat 1-2x per week, so I'm not completely veg.

I am pretty good at making veg soup and pasta, but after that I tend to rely on prepackaged items from Morningstar for the main part of the meal.  Since those products are stupid high in sodium, I've stopped using them.  Now I really struggle to come up with good meals.  So if any of you have good recipes or can point me to a good website, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Ann-Marie

Oh, and I slept in again this morning b/c it is still close to freezing here and I still don't have warm enough clothes.  Florida weather come back!!!

I eat very little meat when in Indonesia and have long spates of vegetarianism and short spates of veganism. It's just so easy here--incredible tofu and tempeh dishes, veggies are prepared so beautifully, tons of tropical fruits.

Check out some of these links for resources and persons:

Check out Hillary Biscay's Nutrition section--she's a pro triathlete and good friend, who's veggie/nearly vegan.

I'm still trying to strike a work/family/personaltime/workout balance and part of that is allowing work and life to occasionally overrule workout... as long as I make up for it later by cutting out my xbox time :P

This is why I workout before work as much as possible.  It's too easy for me to make excuses when I'm fully awake!

Not vegetarian but frequently eat meatless.

I get a lot of recipes from Eating Well magazine. One of our regulars is Greek Omelet.  We also like Inside Out Lasagne.

I also get recipes from Cooking Light.  My husband really likes Alfredo Sauce (with fettuccine).

Hi All!!

If you like peanut butter - try the new GU flavor it's peanut butter and it actually is pretty darn good.  No caffine...so I had it before my 90 min run tonight.

Did my run on the treadmill ...and counted my 5 min walk warm up in my minutes.   My prior coach always told me include my 5 min walk in my time - you are still doing it - it's time and it counts.

I am still a bit sore from the 1/2 marathon this weekend - the plan was for 60 min easy pace, 15 min marathon pace, 15 min easy. Whew!  11 days until Phoenix!

I am a GU person AND I love love love PB, so I will be checking that out.  I just ate a tbsp of PB to get me through til lunch.  Now I have to have a workout long enough to justify eating one.

ugh!  After a full day of work including a 3.5 hour worlds most boring meeting, my son came home from daycare REALLY sick with a stomach bug and was throwing up nearly every 20-30 minutes.  After he went to bed my wife and I ate some pot roast and it was time to go meet with a side job related contract for 2 hours.  I'm just finally getting home and glaring at that trainer.  Might just skip tonight.  To offset not riding the trainer I switched my usual oreo or tasty treat snack of the evening with a bowl of 2% Greek yogurt with a local apiary's honey drizzled on top.  Yum!

Also switched to V8 fusion LIGHT Strawberry/Banana.  Can't even tell the difference and 10g of sugar less per serving.

I'm still trying to strike a work/family/personaltime/workout balance and part of that is allowing work and life to occasionally overrule workout... as long as I make up for it later by cutting out my xbox time :P

I sure hope your little one is feeling better today.  Sick kiddos just break my heart.

I've recently cut a ton of sugar out of my diet.  Cutting out that and fried foods only made me drop 10 lbs in 1 month.  It amazes me every day how much sugar is in the "healthy" foods we eat.  The last one that blew my mind was OJ.  I had to have my mimosa Christmas mornin with Vitamin Water instead.  For real...35g per serving.  That's more than I eat in a day now.

Did you ever read my 10K swim RR? The lady who won it downed a cheeseburger topped with fried egg and all the fixin's right before we got in. "I'm going to need me energy!" she said. Damn straight.

You've laid down a LOT of training this week in addition to having a very active job and it's likely your body is not-so-politely informing you ... REST!!!

I did forget to mention that my mom's BFF (they've outlived all their other friends, basically) runs an orangutan rescue/transition center that she lives in smack in the middle of our national zoo here in Jakarta. My mom goes and visits her every day. While yes, there are a ton of orangutans about--it's actually really fun to go when they all come out to play, I should tag along again one of these days--it's really an all-kinds-of-anything rescue center. Animals move on to rehabilitation centers, other zoos or refuges if possible, but if not, they stay right there with Ulla. Hornbills, lorises, bats (yes they come back ... odd), chimps, monkeys of all varieties, baby tigers, all manner of dogs and cats, you name it ... sit there for 10 minutes and there will be at least three different kinds of adorable faces looking up from your lap and several others swirling around your feet, or hanging from the ceiling, or trying to swoop in and steal your cake.

Everyone gets along. It's quite remarkable. She is quite the Dr. Doolittle/Konrad Lorenz/what have you.

No worries, I am sitting here catching up on tv shows with no plans if getting up--I think the husband might even be getting pizza for the night, so dinner's taken care of. I don't know what caused this--I know I put stress DIRECTLY into my back, but this is so much more than usual--it probably is the massive increase in riding this week.

I think I have heard of the orangutan place you speak of--that's awesome--While I like that zoos do some informative and actual stuff, conservation-wise, its truly sanctuaries that do the 'good' for the world.

Agreed probably the biking, have you gotten properly fit?  It took us a while to convince our LT that it was a good idea, took a few of us popping up with knee/back issues to really convince them it was money well spent, just a thought.

Got my long run in today, thankfully don't have to be thwacked, had originally planned on trying for the 15 that I missed but the plan said 12 and I ended up doing 13.  Not as fast as I wanted and I was feeling it at the end having to walk/shuffle the last mile or so, going to be sore tomorrow but I think that my goal of sub 2:10 (did 2:19 today) is doable on my HM, drank around 50 oz with two scopes of perpetuum during the run and that felt about right, I think (still trying to adjust to long distances...)  Didn't get some of my other training in as of yet because the HM is taking precedence.

I think its just the quick increase--I was riding quite a bit during last season with no problems--then I didn't really touch my bike between October and December. I think it was a combo of that and a 20 pound cat who has decided that sleeping on my shoulder and head is a good idea-my sleeping has absolutely sucked for the last few days.

Ice has been keeping me company throughout the day, and a massage from the husband tonight will most likely help out too.

Truthfully. most of the bike shops around here don't do fittings--and of the other ones that just might are VERY high end and WAY out of my price range with their regular merchandise. I will look into it though.

Oohh I love a good burger.  I'll eat chicken and occasionally a steak, but otherwise I have a lot of meatless meals.

Kgore, I hope your back feels better soon.

I got in my tempo run tonight and have Pilates Orbit tonight.  I'm looking forward to my rest day tomorrow.

I got some new goodies today!  I got a new pair of biking shoes and a new saddle for the bike, hoping to rid myself of sources of discomfort.  I also got a new swimsuit and a cap for people with big heads hair.

Thanks for the site recommendations, I will be checking them out.  There are times when I crave a good burger too.  For those times I generally head to 5 Guys.  So, good.  I also generally have a beer (or 2, sometimes 3) before long runs.  I don't know if it helps or hurts, but I have no plans to stop

Got a 5 mile run in after work and plan on swimming in the morning.  At least that's the plan.

Grrr. this just has me down in the dumps...whine, whine, whine....Cry

I would love to visit this center!

Y'think? [oh I know every single comment I ever make on anyone pushing it too far is going to come back and BITE MY BUNNIES]

And ice is your friend.

Agreed on the bike fit. Also when we feel we have too much to carry (either family, work, training, etc.) we often fatigue our backs. Probably a combination of all those things. Just take care and feel better. I know that moving around (once you can do it without pain) is better than just sitting. Actually sitting is one of the worst things you can do. Can you tell I've had back issues?

Nice job on the run Kirk. Also, just curious what's the word on your leg shaving? I was thinking waxing would give you the cleanest, hair free legs.
