Hyponatremia is any blood level of sodium below normal range.  The condition is life threatening only if below the panic level, and only if the body has not had time to adapt.  Some athletes will feel the effects of hyponatremia well before they reach panic low levels.   Endurance athletes electrolytes fluctuate in and out of normal range depending upon coping mechanisms and replacement.  During extreme endurance conditions blood volumes may contract, causing a chemical to be released that can affect sodium concentrations.  This can be as bad as excessive water only replacement.

I was only trying to show that some of us can respond to electrolyte abnormalities by having poor performance and yet still finish.

Must be an off/recovery week for a lot of us - quiet board this week. My plan has the bike hrs cut down a fair amount this week, but the run/swim are still full volume. Still, my legs have felt like Jell-O all week. Every workout so far has felt flat, hopefully they recover by next week.

Yep, recovery week for me and I'm loving it (came at the right spot). Both bike and run volume are down this weekend plus it's finally some decent weather in Chicago so I'll be able to take the bike OUTSIDE tomorrow. Really looking forward to it.

The weather in Salt Lake is supposed to be approaching 70 degrees tomorrow. Perfect day to hit all three. Starting with a mile in the pool, then 70 on the bike, and finishing with a 10k run. Time to start dialing in that nutrition.

Yup, recovery week here as well.  I have been extra weak on my midweek biking, which is bothering me.  Running and swimming and going really well though.

That picture makes me want to open water swim!  I haven't really been feeling the pool lately...actually skipped several swim workouts the last few weeks.  My bike and run are feeling pretty good, but I just can't get into swimming for some reason (maybe I'm just dizzy from all the laps).  I'm looking forward to warmer weather and some open water!

Had a great ride yesterday outside. Managed to get in 65 miles and a short 35 minute run afterwards. There were a lot of people out riding in the Boulder area.

Looking forward to more outdoor riding in the up coming weeks.

27350.00 Yd - 8h 51m 35s

The last 2 weeks I've dealt with a sore neck which caused me to miss some swim workouts and cut back on some run workouts. But overall the volume was up, my times are getting better and I am getting better at managing my HR.

Did a 60 mile bike today followed by a somewhat hard 42 minute run post ride. A little slower on the bike than I would have liked but I also wanted to keep my HR low. I did the same ride last year and I think my HR was 15 beats higher although I was like 10 minutes faster last year though.

That picture is just how I see it in my head.  I sur ehope the day looks like that when we race.  Not like Boise 70.3 last year......

I'm too lazy to check the swim totals, but I get about 2 hours a week of swim which is more time than I like in a pool.  Ice is gone off the lake and it should be warm enough to swim in a few weeks.

Bike 227.27

Run 100.94

I don't know how you guys find the time to ride for 3 and 4 hours.  I assume you must not have kids or anyone at home who needs you.  Since my time is some what constricted my coach has this theory that if you do 1.5 hours of biking two days in a row the returns are the same as a 3 hour bike ride one day.  I'm not sure how sound that is, but since it fits in my training schedule I'm pretty happy.  Since I shipped the kids to Florida with grandma I do get to go for a 150 minute run Tuesday.  Have a great week everyone.  It's warming up here in Michigan so I should get to ride out side next week or later this week.

Wife, kids, full time job plus in the air national guard.  I don't know what others do but for me, I end up sacrificing sleep for the long rides, like this coming Saturday where I have about 3 hours of pedaling scheduled and will do it before going in to drill at 0700.

Actually not too shabby, considering I was sick for nearly the whole month of March.  Sick enough that I took several days off and cut back my efforts.  And I had a day of skiing.

This past week was relatively easy, mostly because I got off of antibiotics on Thursday and we didn't want me to relapse.  I only had a 1:20 run and easy 30 min swim yesterday, so I got it done in the morning and spent the afternoon outside eating bbq and drinking beer.  I figured it was my last free Sunday afternoon for the next 3 months so I may as well enjoy it.

March's totals:
Bike:29h 13m 20s  - 361.32 Mi
Run:9h 37m 53s  - 47.55 Mi
Swim:13h 05m  - 37510.94 Yd
Skiing:5h 00m

You Guys/Gals are great!  Great monthly totals.    I am not worthy.   I am doing my Second Cda IM.   I finished 2011 and want to succeed one more time. Volunteered last year at a run station.   A little addicted I guess.    I too am a little exhausted, but will cut back with the kids on spring break this week.

Swim: 9 hours

Bike: 27 hours

Run: 15 hours

Looks like everyone is putting in some good mile but holy crap, Nice Job Rick!! I would be happy with those numbers as well. You should have a great 70.3 this week.

Boise 70.3 last year was not good. I was cold until mile 4 on the run when my feet finally thawed out. The worst for me though was having my family come to the start. I panicked when I couldn't find them and when I did I told them to hustle their butts to get on a bus back to town. They were lucky and caught the last bus going to town. My 2 year old daughter was not happy with me.

As to finding time, I have 4 kids, wife works full time, I work full time. Weekdays I am up sometimes at 4:30 to get my workouts in before work and then do a lunch workout with whatever I can fit in during the hour to hour and half.

On the weekends, my wife is pretty lenient with me but I do try to finish up before noon on Saturdays and Sundays can be changed up depending on what she wants to do. She knows I am really wanting to have a good race and I have told her after this IM I am done doing IM distance and will only 70.3 or less. Though volume for the 70.3 was pretty high for me last year.

Just noticed at ironmancda.com that they have welcome banquet tickets available now for those of you who have family that want to attend.  This is my first so I'm not sure how fast those tickets go...

Thanks for the heads-up.  I thought athletes didn't have to pay and you only had to buy tickets for family... I don't see anything on the website that says that.  Does anyone know if that is true?
