Apparently not by me. I spoke to the boss (coach) and she told me to pick one or the other, NOT both lol

She thought WI might make more sense, which was kind of where my thought process was heading, too.

Ok guys, so I may have a decision to make. My tri club is planning a destination race for '15. I was planning on doing LP, but I really like the idea of a destination race with up to 40+ tri club members. Urgh, decisions, decisions, decisions. I don't have to make my decision until nearer July, but I am already toying with not doing LP.

Because 2 IM's in the same year would be bonkers, right!

(right?)

If you spread them far enough apart, you can maintain the fitness through recovery from the first to the second. What the hell.

So you think 7 weeks might be pushing it?

Are you looking at Wisconsin?

Hats off, Kathy! Someone knows their IM dates ;-)

Yes, that is the one the club is looking at doing.

Great news about the shoes! I hope this mitigates/eliminate the hip pain!

That swim improvement is impressive! I will see in July what kind of HIM swim I can do

Scott, KTC, and KC,

I very much appreciate your feedback. Your experience and wisdom on this distance is much appreciated.

I think you are all right. Expecting 8000 yards per week is probably unrealistic and likely more for IM.

KTC,

Currently, my three bikes per week consist of a recovery ride on Monday (zone 1/2 with high cadence and single leg drills), a hill/interval workout on Wednesday, then I have biking class (hard effort) on Sunday. Until may, this schedule will stay the same. When I can get outside in April, I will start increasing my weekend distance, but I will have recovery monday, hills wednesday and long ride on Sunday. You are likely correct again, expecting me to do 36 and 36 during the week is asking a little much. I am always concerned about volume.

Scott,

This is my first HIM. So, my primary goal is to finish with a secondary goal to come in under 6 hours. I have to remember that I am only a beginner. My concern about the bike and run build during peak training was that I would be increasing both at about 10 % per week. Sounds like you don't think 60 is long enough? I can adjust that. May be I will cut back on mileage during the week and start increasing my long rides sooner. With respect to the run, again, I think you are right. Probably too many miles for my goals and my newness to the sport.

KC,

For taper, I am always scared of losing fitness. But, I can work on an easier taper. I put the plan together myself based on all I have learned over the past couple years. That is why I am asking for suggestions Because I am newb!

I am going to take allof your suggestions and retool it.

Thanks again,

Todd

Hello Team RFP - Just wanted to give everyone an update... I had my surgery on Wednesday. Everything went good and I am really glad that I got it done. The surgeon came in after surgery and told Josi that although I had no pain my stomach lining was coming through the tear so I was bound for issues. This thing has been weighing on me more than I thought and was like a big negative weight over my head sucking my motivation haha. Surgery went well and I am on my way to recovery. Went into work for a couple of hours today and was wiped out so just taking it day by day. Hopefully gonna try and do a light spin on the trainer by end of week.

While I was laid up in bed I put together my training plan for my June 22 HIM. I figure I will have about 10 weeks which not sure how well that will go. The goal is to just have fun with it this year.

I apologize for not being around lately but it looks like everyone is doing great.

You rock. Get well. Hernias suck. Especially when you do an IM with one ...oh, and colon cancer, don't forget the colon cancer.

Easy does it. No screwing up the stitches.

Nice. Mine did the same damn thing. 2500 yards with 9 X 100 step downs. Too early for that crap.

Nate - welcome to the triathlon family! Glad you had fun with your first race, after all that is what it is all about!

KC - glad to hear the tooth is feeling better and training is going awesome by the sounds. I love how every IM preparation you panic about your swim and SBR speed, but we all know you are gunna RFP that IM into submission and kick butt!

Cheeky - damn woman, you are turning into a training freak! Gotta agree with your coach though, one IM and nail it!

KTC - glad the weather has picked up for you and you are getting some outdoor sessions in. We are in Autumn here, but still in the mid 30's (90Fish), the weather is slowly cooling which I am happy about cause it means I can do more.

Scott - you are a machine, even with a bung hip! Glad you found some shoes that help!

Todd - whoa! 8000 yards is a huge amount, I don't get into those sorts of volumes till about week 11 of my IM program!

Tim - glad the operation went well, great to have you back. hope the recovery goes well, don't do the typical triathlete thing and try too much too soon!

Hope I haven't missed anyone, I've been trying to keep up with everyone's posts.

It sounds like the majority of the Team is doing awesome, so well done all and keep up the great work!

G'day Team,

so I saw my pdoc this morning and she has changed around my meds which will help put an end to feeling hungover every morning (think walking dead zombie!) and having constant cravings. She actually diagnosed me with 'binge eating disorder' yay, another label to add to my list, but actually I'm kinda glad because I know I am being taken seriously. That's one thing I love about my pdoc, she listens and it's a partnership towards getting me healthier. Anyway long story short, after I'm weaned off my old med and fully titrated up on the new ones I should start to feel more energetic and motivated, instead of constantly stuck in a fog. The only draw back is that one of them can cause anxiety as a side effect initially, but if that's the case I'll just get on my trainer and ride it out. I've decided over winter I am going to set up my road bike on my trainer in my room and just take the mountain bike out for outdoor rides, that way I can jump on the trainer at a minutes notice if I feel the need to burn off some nervous energy. I have to see my pdoc every week for the next month to make sure things run smooth and by then hopefully I'll be well and truly back in the SBR thick of things, training hard and losing weight with a passion.

Hey Team.

Unbelievable snow storm here again this morning and through the day We have officially passed all records. Hard to believe I actually was out running on the roads 2 days ago and now - another fricking pile of snow to shovel darn it.

Had a good start tot he week - good swim Monday morning and a nice run outside and a decent short bike yesterday. Today - swim cancelled based on weather today but I am going to unfold my friend the dread mill again in a bit to get my run in and a lift.

Please Mr. Winter - JUST GO AWAY ALREADY.

Um hi!. I'm Elena remember me? Ive been getting all RFP's updates but honestly haven't read all of what has been posted. I did just skim from page 20 and on. Read some good stuff from first time tri's,, to surgeries, to crazy cold weather, to deciding on which races to add to your lists and of course AWESOME training! So just a word of encouragement to keep it up and keep our eyes on our goals!

Im trying to keep up with my training. Hard work but I love it. Brick this morning with a Swim(2100)-bike(17). Felt pretty good.

News worth mentioning: I bought a tri bike! EXCITED about that! LOVe it!! I definitely need to either adjust seat angle or just go buy a new one. Girl parts hate it. I'm also trying to decide on location of H20 bottles. I've been sticking a bottle in my jersey which is fine for now. I know its just probably preference to type and location of bottles. Also, I raced a Duathlon on Saturday. I usually do the International distance but since it had only been my third time on my tri-bike I decided on the sprint distance (2/10/2). Had a great time and just enjoyed my ride and runs. 1:13 total 17:45/33/20.

Good to be back.

KC - that is just nuts. It feels like spring here in Seattle. 60*f and sunny today.

Elena - Well done! It's awesome that you already have outdoor events this early in the year. Yet another perk to living in CA. So you got a new bike? Pics or it didn't happen! :-)

I think I've got my mojo back! Went to the beach for a couple of days to hang out with family and did a couple swim, bike, runs that were quality but totally unstructured as to time, pace etc. I returned home feeling refreshed and ready to roll again, just in time for my birthday tomorrow. I cannot tell you how nice it was to run outside in shorts! I hope every is having a spectacular week!

Great job!

Bike seats are a matter of personal preference. I love ISM Adamo. Lots of women using them too. But you are right. It's often just an adjustment.

Hi Team,

Sounds like everyone's training is kicking into gear and racing season is starting.

Tim - take your time recovering however I know it is hard for us to not do anything. Glad to hear the surgery went well and that you got all this behind you now.

Both my husband and I went to the doctor and lets just say they barely spent any time on me as the focus was on the hubby who has extremely high blood pressure and cholesterol. I really think the doctor wanted to ask how could I be so healthy while my husband isn't if we live under the same roof and eat the same food.

Finally my Y is offering a Master Swim Class but it is on Wednesdays at noon. Who in the world can make Wednesday's at noon and work for a living?! I managed to go this past week and it about killed me. It didn't help that the instructor is my coach and he asked me ....You haven't been swimming much, have you?" I really want to keep going but it pretty much take the whole day just to do that 1 hour swim class.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Starting get a little anxious to get back at it. Plan was to get on bike by the end of the week but I had a scare when I was an idiot on Wednesday and reached back and picked up my computer bag in the backseat of my car without even thinking and felt a pain. I was freaking out all night thinking I would have to have the surgery again but spoke with the surgeon the next morning and he said I most likely was fine just a sore muscle. Either way it scared the crap out of me and decided to wait 1 more week after my appointment on Thursday to start light exercise.

On a side note you guys are all doing awesome and making me very envious haha. There really is someyhing wrong with us when I get jealous of your 3000 yard swims, 2hour bike rides and weekend long runs. Cant wait to get going again....
