Plainsman AU - 2009-09-01 3:13 PM Thanks gang.

I have an appointment with a friend of mine tomorrow who has a rehab clinic combo with chiro and PT.  Actually my friend that got hit on the bike was one of the PT's there.  Maybe we can get on some type of treatment that will get things going in the right direction.

Worse case scenario.  I have a 4 week rest on the run.

Suzy, I looked up Graston and ART and there are no providers close, so see what PT says tomorrow.

And John...Hell yes I am toeing the line.

Glad to see you got in so soon to see a PT.  Where the heck do you live? No graston? no ART? what about ASTYME?

So I drove 45 minutes to get my dinky OWS done in a clean lake versus swimming tonight in the cesspool with my class.  It served two purposes, it gave me solo opportunity to practice technique which I need more than swimming buoys and it wasted 90 minutes in the car so I didn't sit around thinking about not working out.  WIN-WIN!  There were also points in my swim when I was thinking about nothing.....for me that is a major accomplishment.

Reuben--congrats on reaching that mindless state in running.  All of my Z1/2s are like that and they are great!

Kim--I laughed out loud.  Reading it wouldn't work for me.  I need Ryan hear explaining it and showing me visually what the heck he meant!

Tomorrow I am off for my Lake Geneva Olympic run through.....swimming a mile, biking 26m and finishing up with a 10K. If that goes well,  I'm set for the HIM!

2.  When I shattered my left elbow on Super Bowl Sunday 2001 (I fell 19 feet) I had two options - super ortho if I waited until Tuesday or the surgeon on call.  I waited (which was painful as hell - I'm also a fan of morphine pumps) and still play golf to about a 3 handicap.

whoa whoa whoa.  19 foot fall.  super bowl sunday......  lets have it.

Reuben bet a buddy...If the Ravens win, I'll jump from a 2nd story window. Who would have thought- they were a wildcard team!!

LMFAO!   And from a Canadian makes it that much more special.  Hysterical!!!!  I can picture that 6 foot 15 inch sob getting tanked while the G-men get beat.  Then off he goes blasting through the upstairs bedroom window.  LMFAO!!!!!!

Please Reub... tell us this is remotely close to what happened.

And he had a fist full of chicken wings in his right hand..... no celery!   hahahahaha

You better be there, Barry! At least with a beer for me at the finish!  J/K.  I know you will be there.  I'm telling you, roll the hell out of that thing!  I mean like 2 to 3 times a day!  You will get a few runs in before taper and be fine.  Your were rocking those runs!  Glad you are going for treatment though.  Good luck.

Trevor, almost forgot.  We (America) finally got back at you (Canada) for sending us Celine Dion.  I see Ol' Pacman Jones is now your problem.

Barry.  I'm starting to think this is a ploy for free beer. Well played!

Good morning group - I have been quiet these past few days although I have kept up on the banter.

Good luck w/ the tapering Suzy.  And Barry I hope that leg trouble works itself out.

We had relatives in/out over the past 5 days.  I saw the boys off to AL this morning.  Now my sleepless nights can begin.  I know that is pathetic but I never sleep well when Tony is away.  I don't know how military families or other people who travel a lot do it.

So Barry take care of them tonight.  Tony has turned into a lightweight.  LOL

Funny story from this weekend:  one evening we are sitting around watching tv and my son, Drew is sitting on his grandpa's lap (Tony's dad) and he is giving the riot act about smoking.  He is a huge smoker - I think he spent more time out of the house smoking then inside of the house.  Anyways, Drew lecturing away then says very matter of fact "I guess it's ok that you smoke because you don't run or do triathlons."  Tony and I started laughing.  Kids are so funny.

Lightweight?  ...  I think I am becoming somewhat of a lightweight myself.  Something about this training stuff just doesn't work well with a hangover.   I am looking forward to meeting Tony.  Really cool how some friendships can form online and you develop a network all over the country.

I wish the story was this cool.  We were adding on (2 story addition) to our house (3 houses ago now) and the roof didn't get papered due to some light sleet on Saturday.  On Super Bowl Sunday it was supposed to rain/sleet quite a bit so the contractor and I were going to tarp it where it met the house.  I slipped.  Hell, this was probably at noon (I can't remember much of the day).  Laying in the hospital bed all doped up the game seemed like it was on for about 3 days.
Two years ago I went back in and had all the hardware removed - can't tell it was ever hurt now - except the awesome scar.

Suzy, being the injury expert, I have a question for you...

I took a hard line-drive off the outside third of my left quad last night.  The pain is in an area about 4" dia.  What's the treatment?

BTW, have I mentioned I hate pitching?  The above mentioned injury...it was the first batter of the game.  I did only give up three runs though.  It's nice have a short stop that plays like a Dyson vacuum.  Got to add that I went 2 for 3 with a double and a home run.

That used to work in college.  Nowadays a 6pk of beer or bottle of wine will last weeks in our house unless it's a BAD day w/ the kids.  Then it's like I need a drink!

Even one drink at night will leave me groggy the next morning for training.  It really sucks!

That turns my stomach to watch.  WOW!  I'd be interested to see if there are any legal consequences to the driver other than running a red light ticket.  If it were a pedestrian I'd bet it would be different.  Some places are really screwy about bikes.

On to a training related story for me.  Monday after meeting w/ a potential tri coach w/ Tony (he was really cool BTW), I had to get in my 18 miles for my running plan.  So I head out about 1:30pm - the weather is great, I feel great but I have a bit of a time crunch.  I had planned on about 3 hr. 8 to 3 hr. 20 min. for the run.  I had been running slower b/c of the heat.  Today that was not a problem.

So I started off about 45 sec. faster than normal long run pace.  Things were going great and my HR stayed in Z2 to low Z3 so I was happy and it looked like I'd have enough time to get in all of my miles.  At mile 12, I hit a wall - I could feel muscle fatigue setting in.  Like the kind you get from lack of calories.  My stomach was grumbling for food and I had bouts of being lightheaded.  So the last miles were run/walk to keep it together.  Still finished 17.2 miles in 2 hr. 52 min. which is faster than normal even w/ all of the walking.

I thought about it after the run and there was nothing out of the norm as far as calories and fluids either earlier in the day or on the run.  Is it possible that my faster pace burned through more calories and fluids earlier in my run?  I have terrible nutrition problems for longer races.  I didn't realize it at first but it's starting to sink in that some of my last race issues w/ fatigue and cramping could be due to lack of calories/fluids.  So I'd like to get this worked out before OBX.

Okay all you gear review junkie - my hubby needs some advise.  He is looking at a LAS cronometro aero helmet on sale.  We don't have a store that carries them so he hasn't been able to try one on.  I did a search on BT and there  aren't any reviews on them.  Anyone ever worn one or know anything about them?  Ryan, Tony, Steve.........

Plus its legal to pack heat in Texas isnt it? Don't want to say the wrong thing to the wrong person at the wrong time.
