Diana Gough - 2009-09-14 1:16 PM What thread do we go to for the IMFL t's? I waited until after church Sun to do my ride, supposed to be a 60 miler. Bad move though, altho' cloudy, it looked like I would make it. NOT!! Got in 32 and it came down in buckets.

T-shirt thread link is here:  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=179286&posts=1#M2399715

Please be sure to indicate "athlete" or "support crew" and "dri-fit" vs. "regular."
Thanks!

Hey thanks for the info. I noticed that many of the people doing IMFL have already done IMAZ. Did you have to be present to sign up for it or was getting in on the computer doable?

I say you guys are up next!

I signed up for women's change tent and finish line catcher..hope to meet lots of you down at Panama City!

Order the t-shirts as it makes it so much easier to find each other while just walking around. Last year I bumped into so many BTers that I would not have recognized if not for the BT shirts. We ordered the tech ones and wear them often even when I go to other races as it helps me bump into other BTers.

Kathy - I can't wait to meet you!  Thanks for volunteering!  Do you know what shifts you will be working?

Doing the ChesapeakeMan AV as a tune up too.  Geez it wasnt too long ago that I would be freaking out about doing a 2.4 mile swim and a 112 mile bike ride, now referring to it as a 'tune up'  Funny how perspective changes!

Technically you are supposed to arrive on Wed. or Thurs to register and pick up your stuff.  I know of someone that did it on a Friday but that is not the "official" policy.

Here is the link to last years official athlete guide.  This should kinda give you an idea of the schedule.

Been a couple of weeks since I posted...Been training hard since that time. Been doing the usual 2 mile swims 2 to 3 times per week. But the last 2 weeks have been HEAVY cycling and running. Had a 300 mile cycling week, with 30 miles running 2 weeks ago. Followed by a 100 mile cycling week and 57 miles running last week. Last week's cycling numbers were way down due to my vacation in Chicago. But did manage some good runs while I was there.

Having a "normal" training week this week and a slightly lower volume week next week as I prepare for the Ironman 70.3 Augusta. Not really focusing on this race so no real taper before the event.

I am ready for IMFL to be here! I love training but am really starting to miss some of the time with my wife and daughter...

Haven't had any IM dreams yet. I can barely stay awake these days.

I've been sick for the last week. I'm hoping the shot and meds will start working soon!

Funny training story:

Went for a 1.2 mile swim this morning after shift.  I have been doing my ows in a friends private community lake.  Went down to the beach to put on my wetsuit.  I then put my clothes, towel, and shoes in my wetsuit bag and laid it on a picnic table.  After I get in from my swim (which ended up being a PB) I get out to find all of my stuff gone!!!Yell  Luckily I had locked all my valuables in the car and hid the key on the car.  So I had to proceed up to the security office in my dripping wet trisuit and report it.  They double checked with maintenance and security and nobody had picked it up or reported it.  My only thought is that since it is 9 on a Wednesday during the school year the only person that could have stolen it is probably someone who is unemployed and needs them more then me.  My used Brooks shoes definitely were not worth stealing for any monetary value though.

Lesson learned I guess but it is too bad because it is a beautiful community set in the mountains with a pristine lake and I had my best swim ever.

Anyways, happy Wednesday.Smile

Maybe they thought you were the homeless guy taking a morning shower in their beautiful community lake. some old retired Geezer probably threw your old smelly kicks in the dumpster so you wouldn't come back again.

Some more T-shirt notes.  Jay (Jccbulldog) led this up last year and is really the lynch pin for this as I'm just going to collect all the info, he'll order and ship. He sent me some important size notes and #'s notes for what we need to get similar prices to next year:

The shirts come as follows: Dryfit S-XXL, regular T's are YS-YL and S-XXL. We need to shoot for a least 50 to get last years pricing.

So, go check out the IMFL T-Shirt thread HERE: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=179286&posts=16&start=1

Really need #'s by the 21st so, then I can get a price quote through Jay for it all.  You will be able to decide after we set a price....but the price won't decrease. It will stay at that amount and any excess will help with shipping costs (like what it takes Jay to get to the post office) and/or donated to charity (most likely the Wounded Warrior Project).

Don't know yet when I do I'll post.

Oliveview here on BT 'sheri' is in charge of the women's change tent and is a great volunteer.

Enjoy your training everyone! I keep think next year this would be my big volume time and my kids have so many activities with all the start of fall activities plus my husband is traveling a lot.

Run strategy:

Which one are you using?  I have been playing with all sorts of different combinations.  Steady pace, fast first half with a slower second half, trying to negative split....

I have run stand alone marathons but never an Iron-Marathon.  I am having a tough time figuring out which way to go.  I am realizing that I can run faster then I thought I could but I have only tested it for 10 miles off a century ride.  I am not sure if I try to push the first half if I will just slow down a little or blow up on the second half.

I know that I can keep a 9-10 pace pretty steady but I have been able to hold 7:45-8:45 pace for ten miles recently and I am not sure if I should try to take advantage of that time reduction.  I would like to cross the finish line still on two feet but I want to try and leave it all on the course as much as possible.

So what strategies are you guys taking for the run?  What have you found to be successful for you in the past?
