amy mutz - 2009-01-09 12:34 PM UUummm...47 here, did I say that!?!? Yep, the years are buzzing by, I right on Jules heels You know I'm supposed to run 30 today and try to get on my bike (outside), but it is still only 34 degrees outside.....CAN ANYONE SAY ICE CYCLE...ha I'm having some more coffee and thinking about it...hmmmm

Above freezing? Is it also sunny? How much wind? Sounds like a great day for riding if you dress properly.

I guess I wasn't very clear...I'm a 47 years old. It is about 38 degrees outside now, and sunny. Amy

Like I said, that's decent weather for riding if you are dressed properly.

Nicole:  Do you wear thick socks or do anything different to keep your feet warm?  I don't mind the cold, but my feet really froze the other day - probably 37 degrees or so.

For when it's really cold (below freezing) I wear Lake winter bike boots with SmartWool socks, one pair thickish, one pair thin. For 37 I might wear the Lakes with one pair of socks, or my regular shoes with the thin SmartWool socks, regular bike socks, and neoprene booties over the shoes. Those chemical foot warmers are great. Also, remember that the warmer your core stays the warmer your extremities will stay.

Anyone up to something fun this weekend?  My fiance's parents are coming in tomorrow night, and on Sunday we're going for a bbq at my parents' house.  It'll be the first time that our parents meet.  I anticipate much amusement.

Hi Nalani....hopefully you dont mean funny like meet the Fockers....funny! haha

As for my plans ~~ I am going to a show (not sure which one...any suggestions???) and lunch with a friend tomorrow - she really wants sushi...will probably end up at our favorite wine bar...and then Sunday going for a looooooooooooooong ride first thing in the morning then I have to decide do I want my husbands Steeler team to win or my daughters San Diego Chargers team to win...right now I am leaning towards the Chargers....shhhhhh dont tell my husband! haha Sunday evening we are going to a very Very quaint little restaurant in Palo Alto for our 27th wedding anniversary....and yes we have been married almost as long as some of you have been on this earth....not many couples can say they have been married longer then a quarter century...at least not these days anyhow....I will not be around much this weekend...go out and get some type of run, bike ride or swim in this weekend....and have a great one!

Many thanks.  I'm going to look into the neoprene covers and some warmer socks.   The Lakes sure look nice, but I doubt I'll find them in the stores around here.

Looks like I missed good stuff!  Oh well.  My work had me totally blocked today.  I couldn't get into forums, inspire, etc.  Only get into my training log.  All my pictures were little red "x"s too!

BTW, I saw arm warmers...does anyone want some arm warmers from a local triathlon?  (Rattlesnake)  I should get some pics & post tomorrow (after my 4 hours of swimming and biking to get caught up on my training!)  Probably PMing me is best if anyone is interested in the arm warmers as I'll have to go in to work for a few hours tomorrow.

Hope everyone is doing well and ready for the weekend!!!!!!!!

Hi gang!

Sorry I've been missing for a few days... more like a week or so!

I've been at the gym, but not in a pool yet.  I just got a message about a swim clinic.  Does this sound like a good idea:

________________________________________________________

7 Week Swim Course just in time for the '09 Season!
Tri2Remember is partnering with Brenau University & Jack Haire, swim coach.

This is a perfect time to sign up for the 7 week swim clinic and make minor (or major) changes to your stroke and become not only a faster swimmer, but a more efficient swimmer! Jack will use underwater video analysis to accurately refine your stroke and for those of you afraid of the open water...he will perform open water swim simulation to gain confidence in the water!
_______________________________________________

It's $69.  Do you think I should sign up, or just sign up at the local gym with a pool?  And what's an open water simulator?

Sounds like everyone is getting motivated for the 2009 season!  I'm already signed up for my first tri on June 5th.  Heck, just like maxmansmom, I've never been an runner, swimmer or cyclist, so this is all soooo new to me.  I don't have a HRM, or a computer for my bike... I just kinda go with the flow and pray I don't pass out on the treadmill.  I'll be 39 this year.

Jennifer

Hey Jennifer, I'd sign up for that in a second !   Using underwater video can be so helpful (just watch a few on youtube).......

I feel like I am at times "a mess" under the water, but I'm told I look smooth above the water.  I could use help like this, so yes, I think it would be a great opportunity for you !

OH !  My first tri will be March 7th, there is no time just yet.

We found out this past week it will be set times, 15 minutes in the pool (feet are not allowed to touch the bottom or we are disqualified), 10 minute transition to the bike, 15 on the bike and a 5 minute transition to the dreadmills.......... just go as far as you can in that timeframe.  Paperwork says it will take 1 hour for all who participate.
I hear they are also going to limit the participants........so I'll be hanging out there ALOT to make sure i'm on that list ! lol

I do have to get used to keeping my feet of of the bottom of the pool when I turn around. I have no way to count laps and I cant remember where I am so I use a few things lined up at the end of the lane so I can move them side to side.  Lately I've been using little rubber duckies that the lifeguard has for kiddies ! LOL  So out of habit I stop, stand up, move one over, then take off ....... so i am glad to know it now so I can get used to no tootsies on teh bottom

March???  That's right around the corner!!!  I'd be in full panic mode, but that's just me.  That's funny about the rubber ducks.  I figured out that I'll put hair elastics on my right wrist and for every lap, I'll take it off and put it on my left wrist.  I don't think it'll take up that much time, and hopefully it won't intefere with my swimming.  I'm sure everyone has their own system.

The tri that I'm doing in June is open only to those that have never done a tri before.  They allow you to swim in chest deep water so you can stand up and rest if you want.  The bike ride has only one hill and I think the run is pretty flat.

What has your training schedule been like?

my oldest ds set a timer, and told his dad that when the timer beeped he thought they should come out looking for me (i live in kind of a wildlife area, and there are a lot of hungry predators out this time of year)
i feel bad that he was worried, but at the same time, i NEEEEEEEDED that long run so bad. i feel almost human again!!
