Subject: RE: June Bugschartierm22 - 2009-06-11 4:33 PM Ok guys, another bike question. I have a MTB bike and am thinking it would be nice to get a road bike, but money is quite tight. Now, I can get a 74' schwin or a slightly newer fuji both with original parts for free but I'm thinking that the expense in getting them road ready might be too much. Do parts on bikes "go bad" I know for sure they need new tires, or should I just stick with my MTB? As you can probably tell I know nothing about bikes. Bikes that old would be steel and could be heavy. Many of the rubber/plastic parts could need replacing: tires, tubes, brake pads, cable housings, and cables. Also, the bottom bracket, headset, and wheel bearings may need service and repacking. You can put slick tires on your MTB and it will make the bike more comfortable to ride and help make it go faster, and should cost less than $20 per tire. |
