My favorite is currently running. I am terrified of road biking because of cars. With no autos, I am golden. Mnt biking is great but I don't get a chance often. Swimming is fantastic but I am slow and during the winter it is hard to get to the pool. The closest is about 25 miles away and filled with wrinklies. In the summer, (except for this one) it is great in the lake here.

Good morning, all. Ok, another morning goes by without a morning workout. $(@^$*! When I had my first HIM staring me in the face 2 months ago, I was RELIGIOUS with the 2-a-day workouts. Amazing how easy it is to get a case of the LAZIES during the off season. Now the plan for today is to do a 40 min spin class at lunchtime. I noticed they have back-to-back classes 11:50-12:30 and 12:30-1:30... Hmmmmm. Maybe I'll stick around for part of the 2nd class to try and get a full hour in.

We are talking about the Winter Cycling training program that JorgeM puts together.  He has links to the workouts in his blog.  It's designed so that you can start late if you want.

Morning Gobblers.  Funny sight at the pool yesterday.  Very fit looking gentleman in the lane next to me.  He got in the water and proceeded to blow up water wings.  Yep, the orange ones that kids wear on their arms.  He put them on his ankles and added a pull buoy for good measure.  I'm seeing all kinds of crazy stuff in the pool these days.

Actually, I have this problem with all workouts. I have yet to invest in a heart monitor and really haven't ever trained with specific workouts. I have just been a "try to get out and get it done" person. Acutaly, I guess that isn't training at all, it is just doing. That may be just fine with me, though.
If you figure out how to get over that fear of cars, let me know.

I've been using the plans without a HR monitor.  Usually, I just use the percentage HR as an estimate of RPE.  So, if it says 70% HR, I do 70% of my max.  Not a perfect system, but it works out.

I think that system would work quite well!  My problem on going naked is I don't push to the same degree as when I can see a number and tell myself to go 10 points higher.  My head seems to get in the way of my body sometimes.

Okay, maybe even I could figure out how to do that. So, now to just go and give it a try. I'm run based this month so probably only the twice a week. Hey, if I hate it I can always just go back to my ususal.

Spin class was full so I played racquetball at lunch. A great workout, but doesn't count toward my November goals. Time for a morning run tomorrow or I'll really start falling behind. I'm a little frustrated with my lack of motivation. Not sure what to do to turn it around.

I can understand that.  I have similar problems.  I bought the HR strap for my Garmin and got it last week, so I'm going to start using it.  It will be more exact than the method I'm currently using.

If you don't have a HRM, though, my improvised system isn't too bad.

Hmmm...you could probably use the same idea with speed.  I'll bet you have an idea of the fastest you can go.  Use that as 100% and then go from there with the 70% etc.  You could figure out speed zones similar to HR zones.  It wouldn't be perfect, but it might work well for you if you like numbers.
