QueenZipp - 2010-06-05 12:38 PM My swim wasn't very good. First set was 500 yards downstream.  Had issues just getting settled and had to backstroke most of it.  Think my endurance is still lacking post illness and the lack of sleep (thanks to these darn hotflashes) are hurting me.

Second swim was just a 20 minute total time, up against the current and back.  I was able to free style the whole thing but was patheticlly slow.  Again, think it's a combination of the recent illness and lack of sleep.

Tri club should have OWS this Friday weather permitting.  I just need to go more.

The ride was good, had decent speed for most of it.....the hill is a beast--mentally that is.  I have ridden it mayn times, and ridden substantially harder hills but for some reason this one is the one that mentally plays with my head.  Should have done the loop a second time but was running out of water and nutrition so I figured coming home was safer.

Sounds like great practice, Judi.  Hope you can get in a few more OWSs before the event!

michwea - 2010-06-06 10:44 AM Back from the See Jane Run Half.  What can I say except it was the PR that wasn't.  Garmin time...2:14:22.  Chip time...2:16:20.  Would have PR'd with the Garmin time...and most definitely if it wasn't for all the craziness at the water stations/stops.  Yes, you read that right. Stops.

Full race report at http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=211318

But here's the condensed version...they just flat out didn't have enough volunteers manning the drink stations.  Most of the race was on trails along the San Francisco Bay, so runners stayed fairly bunched up for most of the course.  That meant hoards would literally hit the drink stations all at once.  They never had enough cups filled so you usually had to slow way down or wait while someone poured you water or Powerade.  It was the craziest at the Gu station at Mile 6.  They were so far behind that I actually climbed behind the table to pull a cup out of the cardboard box and POURED MY OWN WATER!  I'm thinking that the slowdowns and stoppages easily cost me five minutes on my overall time.  But hey, what are you gonna do?

Overall it was a great event and I really enjoyed running it with some of the gals from my tri club, Just Us Girls.  Would do it again despite the water station situation.  Just a little sore today--my quads are still feeling it, but I should be fine in a day or two.  Planning to lay low for the rest of the week recovering (I say that now, but will probably be going buggy by Wednesday or Thursday).  Have some business travel this week, so that should keep me preoccupied.  My husband and I are going to an exotic car show at a local country club this AM, so I better hit the road.

Thanks to everyone for all the inspires and well wishes.  Meant a lot.

All things considered, it sounds like you still had a pretty good run.  Water stops....crazy!  I'm sure if the next race you do has smoothly run aid stations you'll be setting that PR easily

I'm back from my sprint tri and it went fairly well.  I ended up 29th out of ~700 people and 5th in my AG.  The race is pretty generous with its hardware and it's the sweetest hardware around.  I got to add another piggy to my collection

I had a good weekend. Did a 5k run yesterday for a 35:19 time (which is good for me).  Problem was, 1st water stop 1.5 miles out was out of water.  Good thing I brought a small bottle . . . no water til 2.5 miles.

Did 51 miles in the Udder Century today  . . . cold in the morning, and extremely windy between 1st and 2nd rest stops, but good ride.

Legs are tight and sore.  I don't know how you all do 112 for Ironman races then go run.  I'll stick to the short stuff right now.  Have my first true triathlon next Sunday, Naperville sprint.

Congrats on the hardware Neal
I had my duathlon this morning... considering the limited training I was able to do over the last few months, I did not expected a miracle.....but the weather was perfect (overcast, light wind and perfect temperature), I felt great and was able to finish almost one minute faster than last year. Race report will be available later this week.

Great weekend.  If your not one of the fast one you never know if they will have water or other stuff when you get there.  I race like I train by carrying what I need.

Haven't decided about Rocket's landing.  I'm really struggling to get used to the heat.

They had great signs through the woods for the run trail,  but almost missed the connector sidewalk to run back in from the road to the trail (Grace something road).

I didn't mind the walk.  It reminded me of Hawaii where we walked through trails to find neat waterfalls and beaches.

I am back from Kansas. I survived it and had a blast!!! The time from the onsite race results was  a 5:49:01. It was a ton of fun except for a few small things. I fell getting on my bike coming out of T1. I laughed it off though. I got a flat 20 miles out on the bike. That has been happening a lot to me lately. Thrusday I got a flat. Friday I got two flats and had the onsite bike people fix the last flat to make sure nothing was poking the tube. I think it just might be time to change the tires to new ones. There was an oil spill on the road, going out you had to ride single file for hundred feet. Coming back in you had to dismount and carry your bike around the oil spill.

I will get the race report up in the next couple of days, but those were the main highlights.

Dang!  You got a 5:49 after falling in coming out of T1 AND carrying your bike around the oil spill?????  Awesome!

My bike ride this weekend was much better than 2 weeks ago.  Much less wind, but toward the end it got HOT.

Volunteered as a swim angel at Danskin Sunday.  That was an interesting experience.  It's a different perspective on the swim when your head is above water.

Sorry to hear your swims didn't go so well   I found for me, no amount of pool swimming really prepares me for open water, so I try to do OWS as much as I can!  Gladly summer's just about here so there'll be plenty of time for that

That's too bad the race was so crazy!  That's pretty cool that you were so close to your PR, though... At a better-manned race, you know you'd definitely smash your old time!

Hey!  I did Udder Century too!  Those headwinds and cross winds were killer!!  Did you get rained on?  Some of my friends got poured on, but I didn't see a single drop - not sure how that happened, but I guess it only rained in some parts and not for very long.
