For hydration during the run I use a fuel belt brand belt with 4 bottles.  It is snug and there is minimal bouncing.  If the run is going to be less than7 or 8 miles I will only use the two bottles in the back.  For longer runs (not that I have had any yet this year...) I put all 4 bottles on.  The belt also has the pocket for keys/gel.  I hate having anything in my hands when i run.

Hope everyone is having a good training week.  We have a busy Memorial Day weekend planned so I hope I can stay on track with my plan.  .

Night all!  Should have been in bed 2 hrs ago!

Just have to say that today I got over a mental hurdle that's been bugging me all spring- I did 3 miles in under 30 minutes! (29:56 to be exact)  It's the first time in well over a year that I ran at a pace better than 10 min miles.  I know its just a baby step, but that had me so bummed, and now I feel so good.  If I can get my shorter training runs back to low to mid 9's pace, then I will feel comfortable with running anything under 11 min/mile for the HIM.  But being realistic, with 2 kids now, I know that life gets in the way.  I just hope to be able to stick to the plan as best I can.

Happy training everyone!!

(P.S. sorry for the "ME" postSmile... just felt so good!)

Congrats Laura on breaking the 10 min/mile barrier!  Baby steps are very important. I know I was excited the first time that I broke 30 min in a 5k.   Time to set the next goal I guess

I have my JP Morgan Corporate Challenge tonight (3.5 miles) with about 15,000 other participants which means it's ridiculously crowded. I always forget that it's 3.5 miles and not 3.1 so that last .4 always kills me! And there is lots of pressure since I will be running/racing against some of my colleagues

Congrats on your under 30 achievement, Laura. WAY TO GO!! Those incremental victories are really helpful to keep us on the training plan. Nice.

And, good luck on the corporate challenge, Ryan. Kick some Chicago corporate boot-tay!

Thanks. It went pretty well overall. I posted a race report but it isn't that exciting. I was hoping for a better time but maybe that's because half of the people I work with are surprisingly fast!
I may start focusing on longer distances though. I am starting to not enjoy 5ks too much.  I feel the need to sprint and not sure if i am feeling it anymore haha. I need a tri to do soon!

I just need this busy workday to end and my 3-day weekend to begin!
I hope everyone gets a nice, long weekend break and nice weather!

I have an 85 mile ride in the morning to start off my 3 day weekend.  Hope to burn some of the calories that I'm sure to consume in adult beverages.  However, I do love the new Bud Select 55...only 55 calories per can

This little Manatee hangs her tail in shame and offers little flipper waves to say, "I'm back!"

Just caught up on the last, oh, hundred posts since I was last here and THANK YOU for all supporting each other, getting out there and healing/training/racing and posting about your lives!

Dineen--LEGS. Oh my.

Emily--how is your healing going? Didja start your new job?

Karen--it's not STILL raining, is it? It is here! Grrr! Oh, and how was Charlotte?

Carla--congrats on an amazing Crohn's/colitis event ... I've always gotten the most out of fundraising sports events. Just beautiful. Oh and good luck on the 85-miler tomorrow ... that makes my legs hurt just thinking about it.

Laura--way to go hitting 10:00/mi again!

Quincy--great race, screamin' funny report.

Ryan--well done on the Corporate Challenge. I dig that you are itching to go long ...

Allison--HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY!!!!! (Well ... I bet I'm the only one who wished you happy birthday TODAY, right?) And high-flipper to Chris.

SUPER JOB to all the Chicago peeps on the 5K! I am most jealous that you all got to meet each other and fambly, too.

Lynn--deepest gratitude for holding down the fort. And you look GORGEOUS and YOUNG in your avatar. As you are!

Me--well, it's been a wild ride! (Admittedly, my life is always a wild ride). It's been, I think, the most exhausting month of my life, and has finally quieted down. I'm a couple of weeks late starting IM training, but I am determined NOT to miss it. I have signed up and gotten well into training for two IMs already that I had to miss, and I won't sacrifice my dream any longer (unless, of course, something *really* exciting or lucrative comes up. Heh.).

"flipper wave" to Yanti.  Welcome back!  And pick up your tail...there is no reason to let it hang in shame.  We don't want it dragging through the sand on your beach runs
Way to battle through a tough month...I am sure it was very difficult at times and we're proud of you. Good luck in your IM training.  It is my dream too but baby steps for now for me.

Yay for the return of Yanti!

My weekend got turned around so I'm doing my long run this morning then, hopefully, Hubs and I will be going for a nice long ride tomorrow.  I was supposed to swim yesterday but when I went to get my hair cut on Thursday my stylist insisted on coloring it to cover my gray.  For free.  How could I say no?  But that means no chlorine for a few days.

I'm currently wasting my time trying to update my iPod.  Stupid iTunes drives me freaking crazy but I love my Shuffle so I'm stuck with it.  I avoid changing my playlists as long as I can because it's such a pain but I'm so tired of these songs that I'm hitting next a couple times every few minutes.

Hi all!
I feel like I have been MIA forever.  We had a great weekend in Charlotte last weekend.  The weather was beautiful, and it was nice to just be away and relax!  Then, this week, I had some mandated vacation!!  We can only carry over so much vacation from year to year, and I was told if I didn't take a week before the end of June, I would lose it.  Even though I have 2 weeks off planned in July, that is too late.  So, vacation for me last week!!!  Only problem is I was having laptop problems so I haven't been online.
I spent most of the week doing yard work, and I am exhausted!  I got in a few good workouts in the mornings, but I found that if I waited until late afternoon, I was too tired to workout.  I definitely work a lot harder when I am home than when I am at work.  I think I am just getting old!!!
Today I will finish up some things outside and clean out the shed.  Tomorrow we are going to the campgrounds where my in-laws have their RV.  It is about an hour and a half away.  We are just going to cook out and hang out with them for a while.  We are also celebrating Mother's Day (yes, a little late), Father's Day (yes, a little early), and my MIL's birthday.  Then on Monday I have a 5k in the morning and I think I will relax and do nothing the rest of the day!!!  I plan on a run at some point today or tomorrow.
I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!  Off to catch up on a few pages of posts.

Karen -- I'm tired just reading what you've done and what you have planned! Good luck in your 5K and enjoy the family.

85 miles!! Wholey Cow! Hope you have a great ride and you'll earn some of those activity points..

Yanti -- my dear Yanti-- You have a nice colorful avatar as well. Is that from Blue's Clues? We always miss you when you're gone and welcome you with open flipper arms when you return.."heart" you!

Ryan -- Got for a 1/2 marathon! There are so many out there now. I think that distance is more popular than the 5k anymore.

My weekend looks pretty laid back. DH and I took a long bike ride yesterday and 4 flats (him, not me) later, yes four! we went about 45 miles of windy and winding, hilly roads. He had a hole in his tire as it turns out. :-(

I signed up for a 5K tomorrow, too and will ride my bike there, run and then ride a bit more. Why not? Monday, another long ride, I think, but the girls want to start at 6.....yawn....

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!! Flipper fives to all!

quick hello.  Happy memorial day everyone!  Good luck to those racing the 5Ks this weekend.  Kudos to all of you doing the long rides too!!  45 miles, 85 miles... Impressive!

Plan for a short 15 mile ride tomorrow morning then preparing for a BBQ at our home with friends later in the day.  Monday is my day off.  Headed to my parents for another BBQ.

Hi everyone.  Holy crap, I missed Yanti!  Yanti come back, any kind of fool can see, I was wrong and just so lost without you...(who sings it?  seriously, who sings it, I don't know)

Ok, I really really really want to sit down and inspire everyone here...DH is back on nights again so I will have a little time later.  Thanks so much to all of you for your inspires and kind words.

Here's my race report from the Soldier Field 10 Miler.  Sorry there's no men in drag or modelo and pork tacos for breakfast.

Ryan, I'm going to send back your parking permit...turns out they had FREE PARKING.  In CHICAGO.  I am speechless.

Allison, I am going to PM you later...I think the bike ride is a go if you're still into it...

All I have to add is...my next race is a triathlon!!!  I am so excited.  I am ready to go!

A ride is what's on my schedule for tomorrow so if you can make it then YAY!

I have my diabetes charity ride in a couple weeks then my first tri of the season a couple weeks after that.  I'm thinking that I'm going to treat the charity ride as slow and easy training so no tapering or rest days necessary.  It's 100km but the team I'm riding with likely won't average more than about 14mph.  Hubs says there are aid stations around every 15 miles and they apparently like to stop and hang out at each one *sigh*.  These people are so not triathletes and if they were they'd be the ones with the 15 minute transitions.

Wow---free parking in Chicago?!  You can keep it if you want since we still have a few left and they expire at the end of June.
I need to get a long bike ride in too.  I skipped out on Bike the Drive this weekend. I didn't feel like paying the large sum of $ to do it. It's over $50 just for a bike ride. So instead I rode along the lakefront (not as far though) but still got in 20 miles.  100km sounds like a fun time minus all of the aid stations although I am sure that I would slack and stop at at least one of them ;-)

Hi Manatees.  Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend and remembered to remember the service men and women.

My bike ride Saturday did not end well.  I had to quit at 60 miles.  The body just wouldn't go any farther...at a reasonable speed.  I had to catch the sag wagon (the ride of shame) back.  It sucked.  We have a 50 miler this weekend, then the century on the 12th.  All I can do now is hope I have a good day on the bike that day.

We had a big cookout/bonfire on Saturday night, so Sunday was a pretty lazy day with a little cleaning here and there.  Headed up to the lake Monday, but got stormed out around 2pm, but we got in a few hours of fun in the sun.

The week is half over...Yay.  Another weekend is almost here

60 miles is still great but I am sorry to hear that you weren't able to make your goal. But 60 is a great accomplishment!  My weekend was pretty good too...I was just glad that I didn't have to work on Monday. And thanks for the reminder that next weekend is just around the corner!

Are you working your way to half-iron training for Lake Geneva?
