I'll be doing Austin too.  I live here so it's an obvious choice for me.
My schedule will be

Austin marathon for training in Feb.
Boston marathon for PR (if all goes well) in April
Buffalo springs 1/2 IM in June
IM LOU in August
Austin 70.3 in October
And NYC marathon for fun in Nov.

Need opinions, I really want to do Muncie 70.3 on July 9th, my best friend is from the area, so I have a place to stay, and I'm somewhat familiar with the area. I was also thinking about doing the Macon Rock 'n' Rollman half iron distance on June 4th. Or do one or the other.

I have never done a half before, so I don't know how long it takes me to recover, and I don't know which is is better to do time wise weeks away from IMLOU.

With the little knowledge I do have, I have a feeling doing both, only being 4 weeks apart, would be a bad idea. I am still not fully recovered from the marathon I did on December 19th.

Jillian it sounds like you are answering your question. My $0.02 is to do Muncie only. You'll have more time to prepare and you won't risk injury as much.

Yes, it is hard to choose with so many cookies in the jar.

Peace,

Trying to find the motivation for a swim this afternoon. Spent the week fighting with an infected tooth so I didn't do too much.

Yesterday I did manage to race in a local 5K. Time 20:13 in some pretty cold sloppy conditions. I really wanted to break 20 minutes but it just didn't happen.

And by the way. GO STEELERS!!!!

Jillian...do Muncie.
I did Macon last yr and planned on it as a tune-up for LOU (perfect hilly bike & run and hot hot hot)
BUT its to eairly this year. You really want to do something 8-10 weeks out. Muncie, Buffalo Spring and Cardinal Harbour are perfect fits.
Macon is a great race, but not for a first 70.3, its tough. I did it last yr in 5:49, then raced Augusta in 5:10, big diff.

Is anybody doing the Mountaineer Triathlon HIM in WV in June?  I was thinking of doing it.  The timing is good and it sounds pretty challenging.

Thanks for the advice Fred, Muncie it is then. I didn't know about the 8-10 week thing. I grew up in Bibb county, so Macon had the "cool" factor, I will do it one year, but my "A" race and main focus this year is IMLOU.

$1.29 well spent.

I'm going to the Mountaineer HIM. You're right it should be challenging. I don't think that WV has two consecutive miles that aren't going up or down hill.

Hey guys, I'm not much of an "aero weenie" so I'm not too concerned if this will create a little drag. I want to get one of those helmet mohawks to stick on my helmet for IMLOU. I'm weird like that. Does WTC allow this?

Not only are mow halks allowed, they are encouraged, especially if they are in some kind of bright color. So...bring it!

My back isn't 100% but it's only mild discomfort now, which allowed me to mess with my bike fit last night (see below) and swim this morning. So, I'm feeling encouraged about that.

Well, I went to my local bike shop (Village Bike) and we worked for an hour trying to iron out the forearm/tricep issue I have in my right arm. We moved things foreward and backward and side-to-side, but to no avail. We had some success toward the end but decided to take a break because it got to the point where a cumulative effect might have been taking place and my arm might have been sore/tight, simply because it was. So, I still need to mess around with that.

Jillian...excellent.

Peace,
~Sam

Rachel and Peter,

I will be doing Mountaineer as well.  Ive heard its good prep for IMKY, and HFP does a good job in putting on events.

See ya guys out there!

I know I'll be road-tripping to LOU to ride the bike course at some point this summer, just not sure what weekend. I imagine as the time comes closer we'll all post when we'll be out there.

Glad to have you in the group!
