Extreme Veteran 1986 Cypress, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread pvollands - 2012-02-23 2:31 AM Thanks for the clarification - post more if you get anything else from WTC on the issue. I like the comfort factor of swimming in the wetsuit, however the 10 min delay will make for a swim with more contact having to pass the slower swimmers. I swam a 1.15 swim in Arizona with the wetsuit and am looking for 5% improvements in my IMTX race. Probably best to train harder without the wetsuit in mind... We also don't know what the lake temp is going to be three months from now. I think last year was kind of an anomaly due to the cooler temps in the week leading up to the race. It may still be below 84 degrees but I wouldn't expect the temp to flirt with the 76.1 degree rule like it did last year. |

Thank you for your email. The cut-off times are your only timing penalty. Your official time will start when you cross the timing mat to enter the water. I hope this helps! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any additional questions and have a great day! |

Veteran 740 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread With the road work on FM 1488 between 2978 and 149 now complete and those huge shoulders in place, I wondered if the bike course changes would involve bringing you back to The Woodlands on 1488 rather than through Dobbin Huffsmith? I think the best part of the ride is all north of 105, so hopefully it'll stay the same (or at least won't change in any way that alters the character of the ride). I thought the worst traffic back-up seemed to be for all the cars headed south on 2978 near the end of the race, just before you turn back into The Woodlands. Maybe there's a better way to route this tail end of the race? |

Where is a good place to do some OWS in the area? Lake Lewisville. Little Elm Park has a beach area and some no wake buoys that we swim out to and do laps. Its a pretty calm area. last year the water was so low you could walk all the way out to the buoys. But by that time the water was so warm anyway it wasnt much fun to swim in. We will probably start swimming out there regularly in mid April, although I plan on a few swims in late March becuase I have Galveston 70.3 on April 1st. Need at least 2 OWS before then to get used to sighting again |

31 | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread I'm doing the Tall Texan as well. It's a pretty tough race-cold swim, hilly ride, and not much protection from the sun and/or wind on the run. But it'll be a good race to gauge your fitness for May. |

17 | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread A question for the locals- I have reservations at the marriott but am considering driving my RV down instead- Marriott a thousand for the week, plus airlines, rental car food etc.... Driving down the biggest draw back is 2- 8 hour day drives(I'm in Denver) Staying at Woodlands Lakes $200 for the week, I bring my bike, jeep, dog, food ect...... I'm just wondering how far from the race area is the Woodlands RV park and if the cost savings is worth it.....I need to get airline tickets soon and just need to make final plans. Would love to hear some input. Thanks!! |

Everything I have heard is that it is a pretty difficult race between the hills and most of the road being chipseal. My mother-in-law lives right off the road that we will exit off of I-10 so the wife and I are going to make a weekend out of it. They will probably be out cheering on horseback. |

31 | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread Yea, the roads aren't great. There isn't much flat riding, it's up and down. If the wind is strong it will be really rough. I rode the course last month. I think it's great prep for May, might be a little too hard actually. |

I have a recovery week 2.5 hr ride on Sat, and a 10 + mile run on Sunday. Might add in a swim, this training plan seems a bit light and I have extra time now that we're all unpacked. |

Got in a nice 80 mi trainer ride last night, probably hit the trainer and the treadmill tonight since we are in the middle of a nasty snowstorm right now, same tomorrow and then long run Sunday maybe around 16 miles or so 12 weeks come tomorrow morning, time is flying |

End of a recovery week for me. Yesterday was busy: 2600yd swim, 50mike bike, 4 mile run with about an hour break between each one. Today I'll get 1:30 on the trainer then off day tomorrow. Monday is my long run day with 12 miles scheduled. |

Master 1468 Montgomery, Tx | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread I am bummed I missed a swim and a bike workout, but I know I am still in a good place. I am entering a few tough weeks with my son starting t-ball, my wifes 1/2 mary, and spring break (we are driving to Orlando). I wish I was not going so I could train hard core without work, but I can not miss breakfast with Mickey! I am ahead of schedule on my run so I plan on pushing the bike a bit more to set my run up better this year. Now only if I could find time to swim 4 days a week without making my wife go crazy... |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas 2012 : Official Thread I had my first solid week of training this month. No sickness, mysterious shoulder injuries or anything else. Wanted another swim but such is life. Need to make a focus on getting in my weights, core and focusing a little harder on the diet. Weight is coming down (should been on this in December) but need to hone it in. Big weeks ahead. |

On a whim, I signd up for the Du the Polar Bear on Sunday, and that was all the excuse I needed to avoid a long run or ride over the weekend. I'm hoping for a solid few build weeks leading up to the HIM in Galveston. As an aside, those Du guys are quick! There were only two run splits in my age group M45-49 (out of 19=8) that were over 8-minute miles, and almost half were under 7-minute miles. |

The longest I have done so far is a few sprints (missed an olympic this fall with an injury) so it is more of just getting a better idea of how my body will react to the longer distance and figure out any changes I need to make in my preparation for IMTX. On the plus side, the last 2 years there have only been 2 people in my age group. Podium here i come!!!!! |

There are a few in conroe around 100. It is a 12 mile drive, but it is straight 3-4 lane freeway. Tomball is a few miles closer, cheaper (84.00 for hampton inn I think), but it is not an easy drive. I would book something now incase Lots of people want a short drive to the dave matthews concert on May 18th in the woodlands. |
