kgore - 2012-05-27 2:45 PM Hmmm, actually, I was considering taking a new picture, now that its settled in a bit...Innocent

Yes please. I love that tattoo and we don't have any gecko pictures on this page yet.

Yanti- i used to have a t-shirt that said 'Face your fears, live your dreams' so the gecko request is really for you. You just got to HTGU a little.

Artemis - 2012-05-26 4:52 PM Went for a run today!  Almost 2 miles.  It's the longest I've run since baby E was born.  I am really slow, fat, and out of shape.

Progress is progress! It will all come back. I remember a time just 3 months ago when the thought of 2 miles scared the heck out of me.

I didn't start running until after I'd had my daughter - I was 41.  First 'real' run I did on my 41st birthday with a coach who is now my best friend, walking/running chatting we did 10km I was stunned.  There began my love affair with all things fitness!  After two marathons no longer content with just running decided to face a bigger fear - cycling.  I'm still battling this fear but I'm getting there, the swim - meh, that is no longer an issue.  Embrace the ocean!

Thank goodness this weekend is almost over...

Stat of Spoleto here, art and music fest that runs for about a month throughout the city, plus memorial day weekend, plus winds from Beryl made for a very work intensive weekend.  Felicia I understand you on the winds, yesterday 25 sustained with gusts, much the same to day...

Great job to all the racing Manatees!

Well I finally got in some OWS practice. Started out a bit rough.  The usual, can't breath out because the water's cold and icky kinda stuff.  But after a while I got into a groove and got into my normal breathing pattern.  Got some sighting practice done too.  Tried to see how well my "runkeeper" app would track a swim.  Not great.  It has me starting way off course, then shows my swim.  It has some gaps so maybe if I turn off the automatic pause...

When I got home from the OWS I hopped on the drainer for Chrissies 90 sufferfest.  My first time doing audiofuel.  It was work!  Good day of training overall. Hope I'm ready for MOAB Undecided

Good job on the OW practice, TJ.  I need to get on that pretty quick here.  I know there are a couple groups that I can go out with--unfortunately they are an hour or so away, but I should be able to manage that.

I got my long run in today.  I wasn't sure I would be up for it after my long ride yesterday, but I figured I would just get out there and see how I felt.  Felt ok Laughing.  16.5km.  I have a hydro trail that starts not too far from my house; it is a bit rolling but no major hills.  No traffic, lots of dogs to say hi to.  I even saw a Catahoula tonight, don't see many of those and they are gorgeous.

I hope all the 'Mericans had a great Memorial Day Weekend!

Well I must have been sick not going to swim squad on Monday missing the chance to see the eye candy!  Today I'm feeling much better, less congested and less emotional!

I just did 60mins on the drainer, every ten minutes cranking up a gear or two - hard work but good to work up a sweat.

So I got my new bottle cages on the bike - a nice shade of turquoise match the bike!  I bought a new wetsuit, a full version of my Rocket Science sleeveless which I love.  Won't have a chance to practice in it, but never mind.

Made an extensive list today of what i would need and when and walked and talked myself through the race and transition.  Very excited now.  The nerves have dissipated now it's this week!  I'll have time for the nerves Sunday morning.

Going through some personal issues that have added to the emotional stuff, I'm sorting through them but it's tough to be tough!  I need to be strong and make the right decisions, not always easy.  BUT I will get there and come through stronger and better for it!  Nothng I can discuss but just letting you know why I'm so up and down!

Manatees rock like my own therapy group!

Finally back to some semblance of normal after a long weekend. We were able to get cupcakes ordered for my DD's wedding, and flowers as well on Saturday, a long 50 mile ride on Sunday (my longest to date), and we cleaned the garage on Monday. Man, I'm glad to be back at work where I can relax. I could not fall asleep last night, so I skipped this morning's run in favor of just a swim this afternoon. The other benefit is that I MAY not fall asleep during the day today.

Jo - You are in my prayers, there is a lot in life that can challenge you, but you are stronger!

TJ - Great job on the swim. I have found the same thing with Runkeeper, or any other app on my phone. the GPS is OK, but really not the best. It may just be the phone though.

Jo - Stellar job on doing the Bayshore Half. It sounds like you had a breakthrough and that is always cool. Sometimes our best races are not the fastest ones. They often are the ones that teach us the most.

Kirsten - You had quite a full weekend! Great job on both the running and the riding! And on the racing as well!

Kirk - It sounds like you will be working a bit this month, what with the festival in town. I hope you are able to keep after your traing. I was thinking about your FIL thsis weekend, I pray that all is OK with him.

Kate - I am not generally a fan of tattoos, but that one is pretty cool. I really like the 3 dimensional aspect of it.

Jen - Nice to see you are back to it. I hope that the running becomes a bit easier for you. And that you had an awesome time in San Fran!

Felicia - How did your decision on the long run work out for you so far? I'm sure you'll be A-OK, no matter which decision you've made.

I hope everyone had a good weekend, filled with those things that are truly important. Take comfort in Him.

Well, I survived. Cut my time from last year by about 25 minutes. I don't have a report yet, but I recorded some of the details in my training log. Needless to say, the wind was horrendous. It was projected to be 15 mph, but the gusts were double that.

Congratulations!

So I started my morning off yesterday with a way-less-sore calf, which made me happy.  I was at the event, just getting ready to test it with a bit of a warm up run, when a young man walking by says "Has anyone told you yet this morning how beautiful you are?".  Ummm, no, they haven't I say.  "Well you are" he says.  Wow.  How can you have a bad day after THAT??  Especially since I was in a hoodie and a baseball cap!  Some people just know how to make others' day! Laughing

I had a great race again, really happy with everything.  It was a gorgeous day out.  The pool is an outdoor 50 m about 30 ft from the ocean.  It is quite a small, beginner event, but well run, incredibly supportive volunteers and participants.  Here
is a race report.  Another good/better swim for me.

Hope everyone else has had a great weekend.

Woo hoo!  Good work, Manatee!

I did the Bayshore Half Marathon yesterday.  I hadn't run a mile since Big Sur.  It was hard but it made me really realize what a HUGE accomplishment Big Sur was.  I have a new appreciation for the effort that took.  I did a personal worst at the half (for one that I was actually running just for me) but it really taught me a lot so I am very glad I did it.  We all need those wake-up moments to let us know how far we have come and what we are capable of.  Mentally and physically, eventhough my time was slower (done this 2 times before), I was stronger!  Boo yah!!

Nice work!  And it sounds like you had fun Smile

So I'm thinking "no" on the 10 miler today. I may try to get out after dark and try 4 (It's 98 degrees and gusty out right now). I'll push the 10 miler to Sunday or Monday. For you running folk, will that mess me up too bad? If I do a 10 miler on Monday (at the latest) and another long run -- (11 miles) on Saturday? Are those long runs too close together? Should I skip my mid run next week and make my runs 4 and 5 miles each?

nah, that won't mess you up I would just be careful to take it easy the day before and recover the day after (both long runs.) I would try to get your medium in on Wednesday or Thursday, as well. It's absolutely alright if you can't always follow your plan exactly.

ROTFLMAO.

OK, enough of that.  It just made me laugh thinking of this and my training plan.

Edit : Let me clarify that I am not disagreeing with the advice.  It's just very far away from IM training reality.

You're going to do great.   You seem to have things covered.  Just try to stay loose this week with some short, not too intense, rides and some runs with pick ups.  If you have not practiced bottle hand ups, you might want to do that this week as well.  I know that you have a hydration and nutrition plan.

You are organized so I'm sure that you have this covered but (OK, I work on a college campus and deal with distracted college students so please excuse me) -- wave start or mass start?  Wet suit strippers? Set up transition or get your bag of gear and run to bike?  In other words, "As I exit the swim, I will find a wet suit stripper, get out of my suit and run to transition.  I will grab my gear bag and run to my bike."  And so on.

I'm sorry to hear that you have other issues cropping up.  Hang in there and let us know if there is anything that we can do to help.

So now we are making a Mad Manatee hockey team, too?  Well if you need a goalie... ... I may just happen to be one!

Love the new ink, Kate!  Especially the shadow of the tail, it gives it some added dimension.

Yanti: I deleted the pic via editing just for you.

Felicia: Super job on beating the snot out of last year's time!

Kirsten: great job with your race!!

Jo: way to be strong.  Mental and physical fitness are both so important.

I'm speaking specifically to the running. Of course she will do her other disciplines according to the plan she has. 'easy' and 'recovery' are relative. Relative to training, and relative to an individual, Janyne.

I'm exhausted. I didn't sleep well last night. My son went out for a bike ride at midnight, and  came home at 1:00 a.m. with one of his best friends who is back at his mom's after being with his dad this semester. I guess that broke my routine or something, because I couldn't get to sleep until after 2:00 a.m. The alarm went off at 6:30, and I snoozed it until 7:00, got up and out the door, forgetting until I was half way there, that I didn't eat breakfast! Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Thought about stopping at the C-store on the way to grab something, then checked my glove box. Hooray! An old Clif bar. So I ate that on the way.

It was a good thing I didn't stop because I got there five minutes before the ride started. Still had to check in and pay, then unrack my bike and get on the course. I didn't even have time to pee. I laughing said to myself that I would have to try peeing off the bike, if it came to that, but I'm happy to say that it didn't come to that.

Came home, went grocery shopping, made lunch for the boys, and was back in bed by 12:30. Slept until 4:30. I guess I was tired.

So I'm thinking "no" on the 10 miler today. I may try to get out after dark and try 4 (It's 98 degrees and gusty out right now). I'll push the 10 miler to Sunday or Monday. Felicia, Great job on your time, you shaved quite a bit of time off there! In so far as your running question, my long runs haven't been that long lately, so take this with a grain of salt. I have no problem doing a Mon/Sat long run combo. I don't go fast on either of them and I keep in mind the long term goal, continue to get better. If you are concerned, keep them close to home and have a bail out point in case you start hurting. I have found that pushing myself has rarely been a bad idea, it seems like my body can take more than I think it can. Of course, YMMV.

That's just outstanding. And whacko weather too!

Is it crazy for me to consider riding 100km tomorrow, in two different sessions separated by about 4-5 hours, when the most I have ridden before is 52km?

ETA: Disregard; my dog answered my question for me Smile

I was going to say yes, crazy, but you should do it anyway, provided you did both at picnic pace.

What did your dog say?

Hmm. How did your dog respond? Should we be worried about you? Wink

"Are you crazy?  I am on prednisone.  There is no way I can hold my little doggie bladder for that many hours."

So, decision made.  Well, sort of.  My plan was to bike to my nephew's floor hockey game for 9am.  He played til 10, then my other nephew played 10-11, then my niece played 12-1.  Realized that it would be approx 2.5 hours riding, then 4 hours of hockey, then 2 hours home.  Idgie can't do 8.5 hours anymore without pred, never mind with.  So, I rode there (55km btw Laughing).  Watched nephew #1, got a ride to second rink, watched nephew #2, went to park to play with all kids, then watched niece briefly before leaving.  Rode another 16km before hopping on a bus the rest of the way.  So 71km today, a bit broken up.  But the 55 on its own was the furthest I have done so that is cool.  It was a cloudy morning, a bit cool.  I took the back roads so it was quiet, not too much traffic.  I may use that route in the future for training actually.

That. Is. AWESOME! I love training PRs. Glad you went out and did it.

{MELON SQUIDGE} to you and Idgie.
