Hogwash. I know a few guys who have gotten ridiculous with their roadies. Also, you need to become better friends with your wheel guy. Mine charges me $20 to lace if I get the materials. I'm salvaging my XTR hubs from "n-1" to put on the 29er. Of COURSE there are guys who can spend a TON on road bikes. I never said you COULD'T spend more on a road bike. I could by the Pinnerelo Frame with the Dura Ace DI shifters and Zip wheels and spend 20k... I just think that straight accross the board, MTB stuff costs more. 29er tires cost more. A mid level road bike cost less than a mid level MTB. Granted much of that is due to the suspension. Components cost a fraction more. Brakes cost more... So do you still think it's "hogwash" that in general, comaparing same level stuff, that MTB stuff isn't slightly more expensive? Hell, I spent the same amount on my mid level Full suspension 29er than my race ready Cervelo P3.... |
