I'm cutting back on caffein.  They say you should only take in 500-600 mg MAX.  And that's overuse.

Well when a cup of coffee has 75 to 200mg?  I blow 500-600 away, with my 24oz of coffee and 3-4 diet MT Dews.  (they have 55mg per can).  That, and I may start my day with an espresso shot (150mg for double shot).

I'd kick the Dew and keep the coffee.

You'd be doing yourself a favor in the sodium department, too.

hmmm...what happens after 600 mg???  i don't drink as much caffeine as you in a day, but i certainly get major withdrawal headaches if i don't get any caffeine in me before 10 am (like sleeping in on a weekend)

Same, I slept in late twice and had headaches both times.

According to Livestrong and the Mayo Clinic:

Consuming 200 to 300 mg of caffeine each day, or between one to three cups of coffee, is thought to be safe, according to MayoClinic.com. Consuming more than this amount may increase your likelihood of unpleasant side effects, including anxiety, irritability, increased heart rate and urination, muscle tremors, gastrointestinal upset and insomnia.

The thing is, I get all of those things except the muscle tremors.  So maybe I should switch to decaf.

So drinking mucho liquids makes you have to pee?

The new game plan is to get my 16oz of coffee as I leave the house.  That's 300mg.  Then stop drinking "the dew" and swtich to decaf for the rest of the day and see how that goes.  Maybe ONE espresso drink when I get home for another 150mg.

I read somewhere the half-life of caffein is 5 hours.  So if you have 300mg at 5pm, you still have 150mg in you at bed time.

Yeah, I thought that was a bit silly for the Mayo Clinic to mention...

They should have said, "it gives you coffee breath and can stain your clothes or burn your mouth it if it's too hot"

Went to the Folgers plant here for a tour.

Apparently the beans are soaked in acetone and that's how they rid it of caffine.....you could always just drink nail polish remover.....

The the FDA says it's ok, I just might.

Also, one of the tidbits I learned on Good Eats.  Since there is added cost to producing decaf, but they still want to make the price comparible to regular coffee, they make up for it with a lower quality bean.  So you pay the same for lower quality coffee.

But I just love coffee too much to give it up, but don't need all the caffein.

Bah, maybe I shouldn't worry about it.  The side effects (other than the insomnia) are minor and tollerable.  The only other problem, since I'm drinking all day, I don't feel thirsty for water, so end up dehydrated.

One of the more-accurate jokes i've heard was a comedian who said something like:

My doctor suggested I drink coffee before dates so I'm more alert and aware and engaging. Because having bad breath, stained teeth and having to run to the bathroom every 10 minutes makes me so attractive.

Zoinks!  I'd never heard that before, but it definitely explains a lot.

I used to drink coffee right up to 10pm... no wonder I never slept very well.
