Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open My dad is coming down this week to help me start building a shed. So, all my workouts are being shifted forward and back to keep it to one a days while he is here. Today is my normal rest day. But, instead I got in my medium run for the week. 45 min sweat fest out there at 7am. This summer is starting to get brutal!! Happy Father’s Day to all the dads in the group!! I hope each of you has a great day!! |

Expert 4921 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Howdy - got in a double yesterday (my company fitness challenge started today)...30 minutes on the trainer (3 x 4' @ 105%), then 1500 in the pool and 30 min of upper body work. Ouch.Got my MRI results yesterday from my hip (totally normal??) and back (still not great but no worse than before). So back to the drawing board again. Getting a script for PT so I'm trying to find someone who treats athletes vs. my normal guy who is a "back to functional" kind of practice. An hour of trainer with some lower sweet spot intervals today. Tossing around the idea of doing a couple of 40K time trials this summer. First one is in 11 days...not sure if I'd physically survive it. LOL |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Mike—good to hear about the hip and at least your back isn’t worse. Wishing you good luck finding a PT who understands and appreciates your goals. Early morning brick here. 45’ on the trainer and then 15’ run. Also supposed to be doing some strength training, but I think that will be moving gravel (again!!). Yesterday was a good 1850 yds in the pool before my dad and I built the concrete forms for my shed. I was TIRED last night. I suspect I will be again tonight. |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Hey all! I've been off the grid for a few days, was down in Charleston for the weekend. Got in 2 runs. Did not make it to the pool b/c the one morning I was going to go was after our one big night out. I woke up still a little intoxicated so went back to bed. Did a culinary tour and got a beer flight at one of the spots. It was local beers, and they were pretty tasty, although the one was supposed to be a mango beer. It was tapped out so they changed it for a jalapeno and cayenne beer...it was horrible. Especially when you are expecting mango. Just horrible. Gretchen, did you figure out your SPD shoes yet? I don't know how to help you but hope you were able to figure them out! Mike, good luck finding a new PT! Not sure if you'd want to go all the way to Fells, but True Sports is a good spot (and they definitely understand wanting to get back into activity rather than just get back to functioning). They're also a cool space in a converted church! Probably only about a mile from Merritt, right off of Aliceanna. |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Went to boot camp this morning. About 2 1/2 weeks until my tri and I have yet to get out on my bike. Gonna try to do that Friday, but I'm going to a concert up in Hershey that evening so also debating sleeping in. Decisions decisions. My friends rode the course this weekend and decided they are doing the Oly so I am going to do it as well even though I really don't want to, haha. |

So wait, you're doing an Oly on no bike training? LOL - that's fierce!! Are you doing Diamond in the Rough up in Perryville? That is a HILLY course.Great week of training so far, an hour on the treadmill and some stair running Wednesday, 2200 swim and an hour easy bike riding with my girls Thursday, and then almost six miles of hiking yesterday. Today was supposed to be 25 miles on the bike, but it's raining so maybe a spin class instead...I'll get in a quick swim beforehand. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open 1:30 run followed by masters swim. There's a good reason the swim is first in a tri. Swim was basically just awful and after about 900m, my legs started to cramp up. Good week of training, having missed only one bike due to fatigue from poring concrete for my new shed. Rest week next week!!! |

3 Norfolk, Virginia | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open NAME: Drew (Lunchbox/LB is my callsign as a Navy pilot). So I go by either. STORY: I grew up playing hockey and martial arts for sports. A couple years got into a little of the powerlifting scene, but unless you eat super clean (which I tend not to) it kind of encourages you to get fat, which doesn't jive well with being in the military. I've wanted to try triathlons for a few years now but haven't mostly because I'm horrible at swimming freestyle.. as part of training we have to do a one mile swim which took me about an hour to give an example of my lack of swimming ability. I'm hoping to take some lessons and I've heard it's very possible to really improve. Anyway, I need something competitive to get me working out regularly, so I'm finally going to give triathlons a shot. Just started really researching and beginning to train last week. Hoping to do a local sprint in the fall, and build up from there. FAMILY STATUS: 29 yrs old. Married with no children yet. CURRENT TRAINING: Planning to start basically the 2x swim focused program listed on the website here with 2 days of weight training mixed in on the light days. We'll see how it goes. 2017 RACES: None. RACES PLANNED FOR 18: Possibly the Brett Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon Sept 8th and/or Santa Rosa Island Oct 6th in Pensacola, FL. BEER PREFERENCE: I also drink just about anything. For beer if it's watching sports or golfing I just stick with Miller Lite. When I go more to the craft side I love IPA's and pale ales. I drink more bourbon (four roses, knob creek, bullet, etc..) and wine (chardonnay, cabernet sav, shiraz) when I'm lounging at home. WEIGHT LOSS: I've spent most of my life trying to bulk up but I think I'm starting to hit the backside of that curve. I could stand to lose about 10-15 lbs of fat. I look forward to talking to everyone and being a part of the group |

Expert 4921 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Welcome, Drew! The swimming will come along - I'm an "adult onset swimmer" like you, and my first tri for 750 meters took me like 32 minutes, so don't feel bad. Lessons are a good idea and will probably fix major issues. Then it's just time in the pool (and on the bike, and on the road, for that matter). I've lost about 20# over the years during the endurance sports thing - your body type will eventually change but it takes some time.Good luck! |

Hoping my strength training gets me through. I may still move down to the sprint. And yes, I'm doing Diamond in the Rough. Wish me luck, b/c my bike is still in my basement with flat tires, haha. I'm doing an SBR at Hammerman with the BATC on Saturday though, so hopefully that will help? A week before the race? lol |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Welcome Lunchbox! Navy pilot - that is pretty cool! This is a great group and we are happy to have you! If you have any questions, feel free to ask! We have people of all different levels/experiences here. I've been doing a couple tris a year for the last 4 years or so, and mostly stick to the short stuff (did my first Oly last year, otherwise have only done sprints). |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open I have not worked out in 4 days. I've been having a really hard time waking up in the morning, which is not like me. Need to get back on track with my swim tomorrow, and have vball tonight so hopefully that helps. I ate really crappy last week so think that might have something to do with it. Getting back on track with that this week as well, just need to meal prep this afternoon. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Ugh!! A day of wardrobe issues that made training unpleasant! First, 2000m at masters with a swim suit that just wouldn’t stay in place—elastic decided to wear out between Saturday and today. Then, 33’ run with shorts that kept riding up. This one is my fault. I forgot why they were stuffed down in the bottom corner of my gear drawer, but it was either these shorts or dirty ones—ewww. Anyway, all done now for the day and Happy for it. New saddle arrives tonight, so I’m hoping hat makes tomorrows ride tolerable! |

Expert 4921 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open In Denver this week on business; the view from my hotel room:
Got in 6 miles of hiking on Friday, 1300 in the pool and 75' on the trainer on Saturday including a 500 swim TT (8:53, PR for me), then some treadmill and core work Sunday before flying out here. Today is my first day off in 10, so I've been pretty consistent. Recovery week this week so a couple of days off and some easier workouts before getting back at it this weekend. Anyone interested in a Tour de France bike challenge? Starts Sat, July 7th and runs through Sun July 29th. |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open 32’ bike on the trainer followed by an 11’ run this morning (I love rest weeks!). Got my new bike saddle last night and installed it this morning. After a few tries to get it comfortable, I rode for about 20’ without pain or numbness!! I can’t wait to try it on the road and see if it is better there. My other saddles were much more comfortable on the road than in the trainer. Run was fun. Got out to the turn around spot and a huge bolt of lightening came down practically on top my head—fastest split home in a long time!! |

256 | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open Checking in! I've ramped up my training and hoping to do a sprint on 7/22...I have five picked out I'm aiming for. Finally started swimming and it feels good...although my shoulder is bugging me a bit and ibuprofen doesn't touch it. Hoping I don't have a major issue. All my sprints are super sprints (400-500, not 800) but I don't like not having full confidence in that first leg, so really need to keep at it. I'm seeing a chiro tomorrow and hope that takes care of it! I've been eating well and trying to drop weight...my wetsuit has to fit, LOL!!!!! Sounds like everyone is doing pretty good...hope to hear how Alan's IM went! Would it be helpful for us to do challenges like the old days? Sandi |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open 2000m in the pool this morning. Was a great swim of mostly back stroke (coach's orders), but one of those days when technology just wouldn't cooperate. There must be something in my backstroke that the Garmin reads as starting a new length, because when I finished, my garmin read 2900m and looking at my splits it read an extra 50 for nearly every set. Weird...and also, doens't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Bike this afternoon. Hoping it will stop raining long enough for me to do it outside. Otherwise, trainer...again. Ugh. |

2126 Baltimore, Maryland | Subject: RE: 2018 Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Always Open I could be up for a challenge, time permitting. What did you have in mind? Skipped boot camp this morning and did spin instead, seeing as how I am 1 1/2 weeks from my Oly and hadn't been on a bike yet. It went really well though and I felt good. I know they are not the same, but they are similar and that gave me some confidence. My tri club is doing an SBR on Saturday so I'm planning on attending that, and will try to get out on my bike again on Monday, or go to the HIIT spin class they have that morning, although that is only 30 minutes. Do y'all think if I do spin next Wednesday that is too close to the tri on Saturday? I don't know if it would help or hurt me at that point. Swimming tomorrow, going to run Friday and Sunday, then swim on Tuesday and maybe an easy swim on Thursday. I'm still nervous since it's an Oly but less so than I was before this morning! |
