will do...we usually go to Maui...since we have two friends homes that we usually stay at...but hey, its time to go to another island wouldn't you say!?!

Oh, wow. That's tough. I mean, Maui in December has all the whales. Also, if you come in the fall, you might be here for the Kona IM (on the Big Island). Oahu does have Waikiki (which is fun for a couple of days...my boyfriend and I are going this weekend for fun). The north shore (the waves are amazing during December), Pearl Harbor, and some great beaches. If you did come to Oahu, I would definitely recommend a vacation rental in Kailua.

All that rambling, and all I wanted to say is: Maui is fantastic. It's my favorite, and it is usually a great place to be in December. But, the other islands have their appeals as well.

The weather prediction for tomorrow is temps in the low 60's with 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms!

I know they don't cancel for rain, but do they cancel for thunderstorms?

The weather is beautiful, if a tad warm, for the half IM that's going on today.

not sure about the cancellation thing....be careful and have a great race Nicole! look forward to seeing your race report if you do end up doing it! I would imagine if there is any danger at all...they will cancel...but whose to say what they will do! good luck!

Girl Passing on Left - 2008-04-19 8:33 PM I got up at the crack of dawn and drove over to Moraga (45 minutes from here) where I will be doing my VERY FIRST TRI this next weekend...met a few of the guys who will also be doing this race. Was going to swim but decided to wait til I got home since I was feeling a bit of a cold being passed from my DH who has had it since I left for Arizona...and since I am feeling a bit in my throat decided to not swim because I did not want to go out on the bike with wet hair and tri suit....instead I rode the course (a little under 15 miles, then ran the 3 mile run...and we decided to go out for a 30 mile loop...was an easy flat loop with small rolly polly hills...but we did have a good head wind for the ride home with one tiny up!...drove home and swam 750 m...so got in lots of mileage/meters for the team....total of just under 50 miles on the bike, 3 mile run, and 750m swim! now I am going to take a realllllllllllllllllly long nap.... have a great day guys....hope you are getting caught up if you are in the lower brackets....will be posting another one on Monday of this week....so get busy so that you can make it the top of the list! GO LIVELY LAVA TEAM!!!!

Great effort today. Sorta an inside out triathlon. Did you do the bike and run as a brick? How did it feel?

yes indeed...it was a bike/run/bike brick....and it felt fabulous! I am home doing laundry and dinner! but I am sure I will collapse, soon! the swim was an hour after everything else....but still went to the pool...which is a feat in itself for me!

I'm almost afraid to show my face around here. I haven't done much in the last few days. I'm working on gettoing a trainer so I can get some time in the saddle. Between hubby's travel, my work schedule, the kid's activities, and the weather, I have yet to put in a single minute on the bike this month. We shall see what is available in my price range in the classified ads, and I'll chime in when the time starts adding up.

Do you have access to a gym and a stationary bike?  that would count as well if you can't get a bike or a trainer figured out

Well, I finished my triathlon. The weather was aweful...cool and pouring rain almost the entire time. I completely tanked the swim...felt like I couldn't breathe and like I'd forgotten how to swim. I'm assuming it was from needing to put my face in the cold (65F) water. I rocked the ride and I think I did well on the run. I don't really know any of my times due to Garmin user error

I had "Hill Slug" written on my left calf. One woman got up pretty close to me on the ride and said "You're no Hill Slug. You're rockin these hills!" I thanked her and then dropped her

Funniest thing I heard...on the run "I think I'm getting swimmer's ear."

that is pretty darn funny about the swimmer's ear also! 

I didn't get an 'official' workout in, but.............I walked back and forth between the convention center and the hotel 2 times, each one way being 1.2 miles, 2.4 miles round trip x 2, 4.8 miles and change.

I'm going to count it at least for mileage - not sure if it should count for the challenge - team, can you weigh in on this?

Nice job on the tri, in the freezing water, and pouring rain!  Love the comment on the swimmer's ear!  Gonna go read your race report.
