TheSchwamm - 2008-05-07 2:16 PM Okay, Ryna, apparently it's NOT the wheel bearing. What's your next guess?

Whats the prob schwammalammadingdong?

There's a "whump whump whump" noise and a related sensation that is easily noticable at low speeds on smooth pavement. The tech verified it's there, so it's not me being crazy. Thus far they've replaced the front brake pads and rotors and the left front wheel bearing. Now they're messing around with tires. 2007 Honda Fit Sport.

My guess is the tires. Don't know why they didn't check that first.

My first guess would have been a slightly warped rotor, but you would feel that during braking, not just cruising unless it was REALLY bad.  So not that......

Ok, this may only be with 4x4's.  Have you driven through any mud recently? even on accident?  Sometimes a clump will lodge itself on the inside of the wheel/rim and throw off the balance.  Something to look at.  Make sure they are clean.

Other than that, I have only some some basic wheel work, ie changing out auto lock 4x4 hubs and changing pads/rotors.

That could be it too.  I also felt something like that when something was stuck in the tread, but I think they would have noticed something like that with all the work being done....

Has it always done this? Sometimes when cars sit on the lot too long, the tires get deformed and they have to replace them. At least ours do sometimes..

It's been doing this for months, but not for always. Helpful, i know. The car has never sat still that long. It was a popular seller when i bought it (had to get mine halfway across the state from where i live), and i drive it regularly.

i'll feel stupid if it's something stuck in the tire 'cause that's something i should notice. Why the trained professionals wouldn't notice that and instead would replace the brakes and a wheel bearing... Yeah.

Okay, so it's nothing stuck in the tire (i did ask!). They called Honda people out in California, and they're playing the process of elimination game. Hoo. Ray. Next step: Replacing additional wheel bearings 'cause since you can't really place where the sound is coming from, maybe it's not the left front.

i am so glad this has shown up during the warranty period.

heh, something like that crossed my mind because my BIKE tire did the same thing.  It started to bulge and I felt a whmup, whump, whump.  I figure the same thing could happen to a car if one of the steel belts go out....

Spokes - 2008-05-07 3:49 PM Ugh. I've lost so much run fitness. Its pitiful. If I focus on the run, my bike goes to hell. If I focus on the bike, the run goes to hell. If I try to balance, *everything* goes to hell.
