Morning Nibbs!  I'm in the pool today, so that's not so bad.  As long as they don't have it turned up to 80 again...

From my blog because stuff is going on...

Update...my dad is currently in the middle of open-heart surgery. Got the call last night around 4pm. Got in the car with the monkeys at 7:30pm. Arrived in Illinois at 7:00am (yes that is 13 hours of driving...the flights weren't working out), just before he went into surgery.

Waiting to hear more, but my access will be sketchy and I don't know when I'm coming back.

I need some advice from the Nibbs

So, if worse comes to worse and they change the HyVee tri to a du - what should I do?

honestly if I had about another month or so of training and more running under my belt, I probably wouldn't think twice about it, I'd just go for it

I'm just nervous because I seriously have only run the 10k distance 2 or 3 times, I train by time rather than distance, and have just now gotten to the point that I can sometimes do the the full 10k in the time on the plan - it varies based on if it's following a bike, the weather, all that stuff

Beth, I just went back through my training runs during my Oly training (the graph feature RAWKS), and I did 10k distance or more just three times in my training.  So don't let that get to you.  You're ready.  Also, I doubt they would do something so cruel to the age grouper as to make it a 5k, 40k, 10k.  It may be a 5k, 40k, 5k.  Or maybe a 2 mile, 40k, 4.2 mile.  They could do all sorts of things, but I doubt, and would be very surprised if they had y'all run over seven miles total.  If they do, you could still do it with just a wee bit more walking

It's definitely a mental bummer training so long for a tri to have this happen, but the nature of triathlon is to be ready for anything, because every race is different.  Every race has new challenges, problems, and successes.  Who knows, you might actually find you really, really like dus.  My suggestion is to show up with a smile on your face and make the most of it.  There are a lot of people that feel just the way you do right now, and you have a chance to be a bright spot and show them that y'all can still have a good time.  You're ready and you can do it.  So go do it

Do it!  The body's an amazing thing.  It can do things we don't think are possible.  You're trained.  You'll just be expending the energy you would've spent on the swim on another run.

I'm just nervous because I seriously have only run the 10k distance 2 or 3 times, I train by time rather than distance, and have just now gotten to the point that I can sometimes do the the full 10k in the time on the plan - it varies based on if it's following a bike, the weather, all that stuff

It's all about pacing.  I know swimming is 'effortless' for you , so you may want to target doing a very EASY initial run at a heartrate similar to your swim, and treat the rest of the du as if you were doing your original tri (bike and run segments).

That's a bummer about the swim, but a lot could happen in 2 weeks.  I agree with Bill...you'll do just fine!

Hi Gang...

I have no idea what's been going on... okay well, I've updated myself on a few things...

Beth... I think that with everything you have going on in life... if you've made time for this event (even if it turns out to jsut be a run) then you should do it.   It will be a great opportunity to focus on yourself for a little bit, which let's face it, after this event you won't be able to do that for a couple of months!!

Now... go for a short run and start psyching yourself up!!!   NOW!!!
