The wind kicked my arse a bit, but I had a blast! 20 miles on the road bike and then I took out the commuter for 5 so I could check out the passage by a construction site that's on my way to work (not passable now with the snow, not sure what it will be like after the thaw).

Yeah!!  Glad you got out.  I rode outside for the first time on Sunday and I had so much fun!  It was so great to be on the road rather than riding inside on the trainer.

I did an out and back. Out, against the wind, I averaged 13.3mph; back, with the wind, 17.1 mph.

Ok, I've been a super slacker.  Ever since my bout with being sick a couple weeks ago, I've had a hell of a time motivating myself to get back in the gym again.  It hasn't helped that I've had some runs outside and got the taste of freedom; I ABSOLUTELY do NOT want to go back on a treadmill - but NY State finally got hit with snow.  And heavy, wet snow at that...but I ran on a Marathon Relay team on Sunday taking the final and longest leg (11.3 miles); wicked windy, but I was very impressed with what I think was my time.  I think it'll be a week or so until this snow is melted, so I'll just have to go back into the gym...

Sounds like everyone is having their own issues though, but everyone is pulling through - so hopefully March will be a little easier, especially with Spring around the corner!

Sounds like we all had a rough February.  But, March is almost here and we can change all that.  It's a new month!  Let's set some goals!

wicked windy... I love being back on the east coast, where things are so WICKED!

Yeah, this snow is lovely today (we're supposed to get another 6-8 inches in Syracuse I think) ...but I am so-o-o-o ready to get out of the gym again. Running on a treadmill is anti-fun.

Challenge Options for March

I'd like to encourage everyone to join a BT challenge in March.  It's a great way to set goals and have a little fun while you are trying to meet them.

So far, there are two going on in the challenge forum:

March "in like a lion, out like a lamb" challenge - split up into teams based on where you live.  You set at least one goal and define it (swim 8 times, bike 110 miles, etc...whatever you want).  There are threads for each team and it's pretty fun

March Peach Challenge - try to do something every day of the month! Can be tri training, can also be walking, stretching, sports, strength, whatever, so long as you do something every day.

You can do both if you want to!!

Nicole and I are both signed up for the first, I'll also be tackling the peach challenge.

We just did almost 2hrs of shoveling and we're not done. Cleaned off both cars, dug out both sides of mine, driver's side and all of behind Michele's; still need to do some real heavy lifting behind mine (a good 8 feet, 2 feet deep, some plowed up stuff) and the stuff between M's car and the neighbor's.

I have renewed appreciation for your "big dig". I just spent 2 hours clearing my sidewalks. We "only" got 14 (unofficial) inches over the last 24 hours, but wet heavy lake effect stuff that's already melting. Such a mess. I'm already sore (and dehydrated!). Seriously questioning the appeal of a corner lot...so much ground to clear!

Happy weekend everyone.

I'm in on the peachy challenge - something every single day!

Hey, for all you snow shovelers - have you included the time in the Sports section of your training logs?  It's there!  And it's definitely exercise!

Kim - great job on your run!

Melissa - it takes a lot of effort to get to the gym when one is busy - good job!

I'm signing up for the Peach Challenge.  I've fallen off the wagon and need to get back on track with my training and diet!

And, I didn't know snow shoveling was listed under Sports - I was able to add a little bit of time to my week!!

I probably shouldn't set goals when I'm sick, but here goes...
  1. My sister signed me up to do a 5k with my niece on 3/28 - so my goal is to run/walk with at least one 10 minute run segment (I'm starting from scratch with the running).
  2. Sell my rowing machine and get a bike with the proceeds!

I will be participating in the peach challenge again! Sad to see how far I fell off the wagon in february but I'm putting the hammer down! My other goals for the month: get new running shoes, sign up for the Cocoa Beach Tri on 4/18, do a 5k, and complete 25 minute running (without stops)!

I'm going to try for the peach challenge again this month.  I did great last month until I hurt my back.  I also need to make up my mind if I want to sign up for a sprint tri at the end of April or another half marathon in May.

Just got back from my tri club meeting. I'm trying out a new running show concept called Somnio Running Shoes that they demoed tonight. There's a base shoe that has many insert option combinations to account for pronation, arch height, etc. My running is so bad right now that I'm willing to give this a try (with a 30 day money back guarantee). My immediate thoughts are that they feel very different from my montion control New Balance with a custom orthotic; not sure yet if it's good different or bad different. They definitely feel springier than my current shoes but that could mean that my current shoes are dead (even though they only have about 150 miles on them). My first run this week will be Friday so I'll give an update after that.

I just found out that the Syracuse Iron Girl sold out this year, should be a good time! And I think they even upped the registrations from 500 last year to 1,000 this year.

Nice article in the paper a couple of weeks ago about sport tourism in the area, including the popularity of triathlons,http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2010/02/sports_a_big_player_in_syracus.html.

No if only this dang head cold would leave me, I could actually get back to training (um, and working I guess).

When is this race and what are the distances?

The Iron Girl Columbia triathlon is 2000+ women and sold out in less than 48 hours. The first tri I ever signed up for was Iron Girl 2007. I did it again last year as the swimmer on a relay team and I'm headed back this year to do it solo. Nothing like starting in a wave with 200+!

It's Aug 7, so 5 months to go! We had our first one in Syracuse last year, with a few hundred people I think. It's an 800 meter swim, 30k bike, 5k run. It's supposed to be an easy rolling bike course, and a flat run, so I think a great first race! I signed me and my sister up on the first day registration opened Laughing...we don't know what the start waves are yet, but hopefully we'll be able to start together.

And on the plus side, I simply can't believe how fast my rowing machine just sold on Craigslist (I posted it yesterday afternoon and it sold ABOVE asking thanks to some desperate soul who ended up buying a new one instead after driving up the price, thanks lady) - so now I have $650 to spend on a bike, woo-hoo.

COngrats on the rower sale!  That's a nice amount of $ to put towards a bike!

I signed up for the first challenge as well.  I started off my March workouts today with a 4900 yard swim.  I have really enjoyed long swims lately.
