Mentor Group - CLOSED tntexpres - 2011-04-21 8:55 PM Dream Chaser - 2011-04-15 8:57 AM So it's Friday and it's the 15th... HALFWAY THROUGH APRIL!! Doesn't it feel like we just wrote down our April Goals a few days ago? Well it wasn't a few days ago... it was 2 weeks ago! A half a month ago already!! Time does fly. And let's see how we're all doing. Sammeg gets a pass cause he was sick for a week. So cut your goal down by 1/4 Ted. I set my goal on an approx 15% increase from the prior month, and based on what Volume my Ironman Training Program said I should be doing. Here are my April Goals and then my halfway actual volume: Bilke Goal: 17 hours Halfway Point: 10 hours 20 mins Run Goal: 14 hours Halfway Point: 8 hours 31 mins Swim Goal 11 hours Halfway Point: 4 hours 19 mins So I am actually exceeding my goal for the Bike and Run, and after I swim 1 hour today I'll be right on target for my Swim. Knowing this gives me a boost and confidence, and the mojo to push through the next two weeks. See how that works! It feels like I set my goal just a few days ago, but it was actually two weeks ago, and I can see the actual results and it feels awesome to be halfway home with my accomplishment! HOW IS EVERYONE ELSE DOING AT THE HALFWAY POINT WITH THEIR APRIL GOALS???
Sigh....this has been an unproductive training month for me....very little training - whole lotta work. Not complaining though - I am a tile contractor and feel very fortunate to have the work I do in this economy. We have seen things pick up for 2 months straight now to the point I have added 2 new installers this past week - woo-hoo! Hope things continue - work wise that is!!! So with the new help, I will be getting back into the gym & some training. April hasn't been as unproductive as my logs show...not much better but some. I did catch my logs up for this week. Congrats to all of you for sticking with your plans and achieving what you have with your training! And thanks for not kicking me out of the group Good to see you're back John, glad all is well especially with your business. Life family and supporting that family are always the #1 priority. The important thing is that you're not letting the disruption in your training discourage you from keeping at it, which is hard. It would be very easy to let a small break, turn into a longer break, turn into a permanent break but you didn't. You're dedicated to this, that is why you return to it.

Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED Happy Easter Everyone!! I had a great race, 5th overall and 2nd in my AG. On the last mile of the Run I thought about the group, and everyone on the group, and it occupied my mind so much that before I knew it, their was only 1/4 mile left to run!! At that point I was running through a field and there was a GIANT 30-foot round puddle. Instead of running around it, I ran right through it!! Thank to everyone for the inspiration!! |

Sounds like my day...breakfast was Pillsbury cinnamon rolls. Lunch consisted of wings, chicken tenders, tostitos and cheese dip, ham, kielbasa and sauerkraut, chicken cordon bleu, cheesy mashed potatoes, two kinds of mac and cheese, buttered carrots, peas, ham stuffing, mimosas, pinot noir, several different kinds of IPA, lemon poppy seed cake, three different cookies (including Oreos surrounded by chocolate chip cookie, with melted choc on the whole thing), cheese cake, plus a random assortment of Easter candy. But I ran 3 miles yesterday morning...that cancels it out, right? RIGHT? <crickets chirping> It was a blast, though. We had about 25 people including 10 kids to the house. I was 82 degrees here yesterday and sunny...it was like summer almost, including a crazy thunderstorm around 4 p.m. that scared the heck out of all the kids and had us running around like lunatics trying to shut all the open windows in the house. Going to punish my body today at the track...first hardcore speed workout of the year. I should have plenty of glycogen stored up. |

Master 1531 TORONTO | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED I didn't do too badly this weekend... a little of everything and because no one was really around it was all relatively healthy well... maybe not the little chocolate eggs I kept popping in to my mouth every time I passed the bowl (about 100x). I find group inspiration hits me near the end of a workout - that time when you have 10 minutes remaining and you know you *could* do it but you think to yourself you don't really *have* to do it. Like today... there was a part of me that wanted to bail on my swim at 45 minutes but knowing someone might peek in at my logs forced me to keep it up and finish the swim at an hour. THANKS TEAM!! |

Expert 640 Sun Prairie, WI | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED I didn't want to make anyone feel bad this weekend so I ate like a wild man and didn't train Good time with the family and friends. My schedule is such that I spend Monday - Thursday away from my family at the Navy Base. I return home 125 miles away on Thursday evening and tele-commute on Friday. This can make training difficult on the weekends as this is the only opportunity I have to see my wife and kids. This gets more challenging as the IM approaches as the weekend is really the only time available for the really long runs and rides. I do try to work the family in with swims at a beach where the kids can play and I will be doing some runs with the kids following on the bike. Needless to say I have a great wife who is very understanding. One benefit is both my kids are interested in participating in the local kids triathlon at our gym. I finally got in a good day of training, weather has really made early season training difficult this year. Tonights ride was really cold, took me almost an hour to warm back up after returning.
I forgot to post my April totals for the month so here they are:
I was shooting for a total of 28 hours of training this month, so I am a little behind schedule but I should be pretty close. Next month I am looking for 30-35 hours of total training. Bobby, another great race! You might be even faster next year if you don't wear that yellow skirt Havajava, Congrats on your first mile swim. It is always cool to pass what seem to be mental barriers for so many of us. Pretty soon a mile swim will seem like a normal workout to you.

Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED Greg, thanks for sharing that personal information. You're a great example of a busy family man with limited time to train, but still getting it done. I think incorporating your family into your training is a phenomenal idea. I do the same and it sets a great example for our kids. And of course the wife/spouse understands -- they enjoy having us fit and looking hot! I'm sitting here watching my son at gymnastics and I keep thinking a.) I wish I did this as a kid b.) This fitness will transfer nicely to SBR and myriad of other sports. Master 1531 TORONTO | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED Well with less than a week to go I realize I'm not likely going to hit all my targets for April. I'm pretending Sunday is part of April though. So if I get everything in that I want to get in by the close of Sunday I'll be short 1 hr swim | 2.5 hrs bike | 1.75 hrs run. Oh and I skipped all the strength training (4 hours). Not *too* shabby but that's IF I manage to get in all my planned training. This will be more of a challenge as I'm basically working from Thursday morning through to Saturday evening eek! How's everyone else doing? |

Expert 4924 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED Well, I managed to have my first major bike crash today (well...first in about 25 years anyway). I was out riding and hit some of that grooved, milled pavement, and when I tried to get up onto the good pavement evidently I didn't cross at a steep enough angle so BAM! down I went. 4 hours of ER time later I'm lucky to only have a bruised hip, badly bruised forearm, sore shoulder, and some pretty decent road/gravel rash on my knee, forearm, and hand. Oh, and I was about as far away from my house as I get on this particular route. Had my father-in-law come out to pick me up (tire was flat...no spare tube with me) take me to the hospital. He had been contemplating buying a bike, took one look at me and said, "Well, Mike, you've just saved me a couple hundred dollars." I don't think I'll be swimming for a bit, but hopefully my hip will be OK to race my 5K Saturday. They say you will definitely wreck on your bike if you ride it enough...ugh! |
