Pretty much no weight loss and I'm a bit frustrated. Going to try a few things that I learned in the Coaching Clinic to see if it helps...

Remember that tomorrow we start a new edition of the challenge! This will be interesting because the previous main player will be out for a few days after Ironman Texas and he'll be tapering before. Also, my calendar has pretty much opened up again. Woohoo!

JoePetto - 2012-04-29 6:34 PM Just booked a retul bike fitting for next Saturday. Ernesto, any key takeaways/questions I need follow up on?
Make sure the fitter makes a good flexibility assessment before the session, it is key to setup a normal to aggresive or aggresive position (angle). If you get fitted too far back and you have tight hamstrings (you might, since you're really good on the bike), you will suffer a bit and maybe even cramp.

Usually you will tell a good fitter from a bad one because he will keep you there for a LONG time, lilke four hours or so. He will also measure arches and maybe even give you new insoles. I'm big against support in the shoes for running, but the bike is a different story since impact is zero. If you don't have good arches your rotation may be uneven or (valgum). You are looking to be a "varum" either natural or by correction.

It's money well spent.

I carried 167 all week, then, this weekend...I ate like a pig Frown. I went to a Philipino Pig roast and I did it in homage to the main dish Laughing. My weight was up for the week but still down for the challenge.

I have a rules question for the May challenge. If you compete in a race do you get a point for each event, even if the event takes less than 1/2 hour? My vote is yes because you are going race speed and presumably harder than during training.

Sadly no, the only difference between me and the main dish is, I wasn't slow roasted over a fire. I appreciate the trademark, I suppose I may owe you a royalty when I write the book Laughing

Way to go Mark and Barry!!!!!  Great to see others successes!

Rachel- You were asking about the scale and body fat percentage.  I second the motion for the bod pod.  I know that the scale I use is very inaccurate (at least I hope)!  My weight is where it needs to be but my fat percentage off the charts.

Yesterday I had a nice slow run.  After a weekend of yard work I went out when Scott returned.  HR was high but I expected that since my training was lagging.  L

Looking forward to the new challenge!!!

apologies in advance for the negativity ...

Before we start the MAy challenge we really need to find a different way to accurately record and update the daily progress - with so many of us aprticipating there is potential for errors to creep in.

Even after the reminder for weight challenge earlier today, there are ommisions above.

If we use something like Google Documents instead of embedded the data within these posts, would that eliminate errors?

Mark.

Congratulations Mark on your tri and also Barry on your PR!Also Ernesto great to hear the news on the progress w/ your coaching certification. Animos amigo and looking forward to meeting you and Jackie in person very soon in The Woodlands!I'm in lake Atitlan w/ no computer so I cannot update the weight chart from my cel. My goal was to not loose any more weight, but w/ the training volume for the IM I ended up today at 153 lbs (-3lbs). A couple of weeks ago for my race rehearsal workout (6hr bike + 45 min brick) we weighted ourselves in a Tanita scale to see the effect of the workout. Regardless of constant hydration, I went down from 158 to 153lbs and was at only 7% body fat. It is incredible for me to see how much lighter I have become since starting tri's a year a tnd few months ago. I was actually being teased last week at the pool that I look like an X ray, but fortunately I feel good in my now lighter frame :-)

Love hearing about everybody's successes!  Congratulations to all!

Today is the start of the May challenge.  I had a date with my trainer this morning - 1 hr consisting of 3x10' intervals at FTP with 4' rest in between.  I hope to get an easy run in tonight.

I will post my numbers later since I can't do it effectively from my iPad. 61 mins on the drainer followed by a 47 min swim. The swim was another real confidence booster. Set was 1 x 2500 at 1:53 pace and it felt easy. On Sunday, I'm running a 10 miler - the Broad Street run, which is the largest 10 miler in the country at 40,000 participants. A solid B race, but I'm not sure the effort I want to put forward. I think 1:12:00 pace is doable, but I'd love to go 1:10:00 or 7:00 pace. This is a heavy training week for me before my recovery week and I don't want to slight myself for my HIM. I am going to do some juggling of the schedule so that Saturday is a rest day, but the hours this week will make it difficult to be fully rested for Sunday.

Congrats on all the races and PR's!

I'm starting to feel a little stir crazy, I can't start working out again until next week.  I've missed a few 5k's and will skip the Tough Mudder I had planned in a few weeks. Frown   I've been getting out for walks every day. I hope I'm not losing too much fitness with the two weeks off.

MAY CHALLENGE

Started the challenge with a morning track session, 7.55 miles at moderate pace. Tonight I have a swim with the squad as well. Finally time at work has opened up and I don't have any trips planned except the one to Houston to go see Gabe perform at Ironman Texas.

- Ernesto: S 0/ B 0 / R 1 ; Total = 1; 01:00'23"

- Mitch: S 0 / B 1 / R 0 ; Total = 1; 01:00:05"
- Markz: S 0 / B 0 / R 1 ; Total = 1; 01:07:00"
- Samy S 0 / B 1 / R 0 ; Total = 1; 00:56:00"

To all the people that sent me messages to be coached, please give me a few days to make a decision, I may be taking on one extra or not. So far I have chosen only one, this is of course based on many factors like how coachable you are, time availability (mine and yours) and dedication.

May challenge:

Pool swim today. I am ready to get in OP for the first time of the season. Water temp here is 60 deg. F. Our weather is suppose to heat up over the next week so hopefully next week I can hit the lake.

My swim consisted of a 200 WU followed by a 60 min. easy swim and a CD with a few drills.

Excited to be doing another challenge. Any takers on the weight loss challenge, May edition?

I have been told by my lovely wife that I was forbidden to lose any more weight (after a 16-18 lbs loss since November, sitting at 190-192 lbs currently). So I will pass on this one.
