smithe68 - 2013-04-05 5:55 PM Ugh, my training is taking a beating this week.  Been at work since 6am, leaving at some undetermined time, midnight maybe?  Working all weekend, 7am-some stupid late time.  Rough when it's fairly big mileage.

I hear you there. Once a month I have to work late and it messes with my training for the whole week. Sounds like yours is ten times worse than mine though for this week.

Spent most of the past week on the east coast for work. I wound up doing a loooong triple (sbr) workout the day I left, early morning runs at the hotel and today I hit the trainer @2am for a 5 hr ride. Back on an airplane tomorrow, but at least this is for vacation.

Glad I am not the only one that has a brutal weekend/schedule.  I rolled out at 1130 last night, was back here at 630.  On the plus side it looks like I might get out of here by 3 or 4 but, I am so freaking tired I doubt I will pedal but I might nap and then go for a swim.  Tomorrow is also looking up since we made so much progress last night that I should be able to get in my run!

I survived my ride.... 3600 ft of climbing in 22 miles.  But it actually went ok.  My coach tells me she wants me to do this ride weekly.  *gulp*  Well, I did sign up for this race as a way to make me a better hill climber....

Congratulations on finishing your climb.  I attempted to climb Mt. Mitchell (5,161 ft. of climbing in 24.4 miles) last week and came up a bit short.  When I started the ride the temp. was almost 70 degrees.  I got within 4.8 miles of the summit but couldn't continue because of the weather.  The weather at the summit was 34 degrees, with strong wind gusts, sleet and snow.  My hands were so numb I didn't think I would be able to descend.  I definitely want to give it another shot when the weather is warmer.

First event of the season coming up in an hour, a 10k that goes around the little lake where I live.  It's 39 degrees and pouring rain - I'm really not excited about this, but my son and nephew are really pumped - my wife and I... not so much.

Good luck on the race!

The weather is crap out there right now and I am at work.  Hoping to get out of here around 1 and head out for a 12 mile run by 2, don't care what the weather is like!

Well, it was cold and wet and to top it off, I  feel like I'm fighting a bit of a flu bug - but a race is a race, once you get going you tend to forget about all the other stuff.  Beat my time from last year and PR'd at 48:04, but most importantly, I beat my 14-year old son and his cousin - the old man is still undefeated, but they are nipping at my heals and my days are numbered.

Couple of hours rest and recovery - then it's a four-hour trainer ride, yeehaw!

4 hour drainer ride after a race... impressive.  The weather this weekend really sucked.  Friday night,  I did some interval training around a couple blocks at my house.  By my house it was pouring down rain, quarter mile away no rain but massive winds.

Spent 3 hours on the trainer yesterday and 40 minutes or so outside that turned into a rain run. Today same sort of thing where it turned to rain.

The weather in Ohio finally decided to cooperate.  Had a really good weekend.  100 miler on Saturday. 5 of us rode out to the Pennsylvania line and back.  Sunday morning brick 20 miles on the bike then a 12.4 mile run.  Today is my rest day and then back at the training tomorrow. Under 11 weeks to race day!

Got my 12 in yesterday afternoon without seeing any rain however, it was super windy and my chosen route had me in a headwind/sidewind for about 8-9 of them.

spie34, did we ever figure out the weekend for the ride?

Wow!!!  I'd say you passed your "fitness test" with flying colors... nice job, you're on your way to a great race.

I know it probably isn't much consolation, but it's a good thing that it is there there instead of here - something like that would set the lake temperature back three or four weeks.

Oh come on Brad, its just a little snow.  Put on your yak trax or snowshoes and hit the door!  Most of my weekend bricks hit during the big snowstorms.  I just bundled up (including ski goggles) and hit the road.  I ran in the street and made sure I wore bright colors so the snow plows wouldn't whack me.  It was actually super fun.

When I got off the trainer after 1:45 I thought "I'll give it a try" I got dressed, all bundled up and stepped outside and down the driveway then I thought "Nope, not gonna do it". Went inside, got a cup of coffee and took a nice hot shower.

Missing one run isn't going to kill me :-)

Ok, I'm a sissy...let the name calling begin :-)

Hey, at least it wasn't snowing when you were supposed to do a 100 mile ride.  When I did IMTX in 2011, it snowed right up to the weekend before the race.  That sucked.

You're a sissy... I would have done the same, but would have had a beer instead of a cup of coffee.

would the weekend of the 20th work for you to go ride? I might be able to swing this coming weekend as well but the 20th I think would work out better on my end.

That would work better for a number of reasons for me.  It's supposed to be crappy this Saturday with a high of 46, 70% chance of rain, 20mph sustained winds and I have planned some Spring cleaning, taking stuff to the dump, etc. Looks like 60 miles on the trainer for me first thing in the AM.

Any rumors on how they would do a wave start to the Cda IM swim?  I checked the website for news, but nothing is there.

What is everyone temperature threshold for starting open water swims?
