1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Ah, John and Dave, there are some benefits to living here in good ole Vermont - such as more breweries per capita than anywhere in the US. Heady Topper is tasty and I encourage you to give Switchback a try - if you can find it. ?? I am down with the flu - 103.6 temp yesterday and I'm holding steady at 101 today. Blech. I swam Tuesday - only 1100 yards all with a leg buoy still, but I only had under 25 minutes to get it done. So I'll put out my brag moment: as I left the pool another woman commented that I was one of the most beautiful swimmers she'd ever seen and she looks forward to the day she can swim like me. Clearly she doesn't get out much or see too many swimmers, but it was a feel good moment for me. LOL My vote for shirts would be I'd prefer a bike shirt only because I have so many tech shirts and t-shirts. Cheers!! |

Extreme Veteran 1648 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Quick question- my husband has been complaining about not being able to record data from indoor workouts on GPS watch. Would a footpod be a good valentine's day present? (I gave him my 910XT- so it is foot pod compatible- he had never heard of the food pod.) |

1007 DeLand, Florida | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Jenn - get well soon please! Feel like I've heard of Switchback but I'm not sure if they're distributing down my way - I'll keep an eye out at my local beer superstore. Thanks! Workout update - got robbed on mine last night. Wife is sick so I was on full time kid and house duty. By the time I got he little one settled in I could have gotten to the gym as the doors were closing. Tomorrow night I have a swim planned (first in a week and a half, the storm cancelled my class this week). Saturday morning I have an hour of strength/endurance training with a trainer, and Sunday I should be able to get some time on the treadmill. Edit - Kate never heard of the foot pod either. Just looked it up - very cool! Edited by firebert 2015-01-29 1:13 PM |

Would a footpod be a good valentine's day present? (I gave him my 910XT- so it is foot pod compatible- he had never heard of the food pod.) I used one and it was good for running. I ended up within .1 of what the treadmill said. As for flip turns I do not do them b/c I can't but the way I look at i barley push off the wall on my swims since there is no wall in the open water. I do turn as fast as I can and after reading about the breathing thing I plan to start holding my breath which will mimic the o2 deprivation. If I am doing a pool swim for a race I have almost always been passing people at the wall so I would not be able to flip turn anyway, but I do push off the wall in a race. Just my 2 cents. I also try to swim the long course for my long swims before an open water race. |

189 Quakertown, Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business My feeling on flip turns is that I'll get too much of a benefit from the push off. I've been touching the wall and turning without much of a push off in order to make myself swim the whole distance. No walls in an open swim is my thoughts. It does look damn cool though. Then again I can do them pretty well. My plans for working out today hit a roadblock when I was told that my evening is taking my one daughter to gymnastics and the other to a play she is in. I write this while sitting in a middle school TIGHT seat watching the little mermaid. Since I'm only at 40/200 for the week (and since I am taxi for the follow up show Friday). I figure I'll post my intentions to work out when I get home tonight in here. Knowing I told you all I was going to do something should motivate me. Just in case though, I'll volunteer a bonus CLP if I fail to workout before bed. Family first though! -Sneeo |

Tonight we went out to dinner and got seated at a booth with a big window that had a huge Coors Light Neon sign hanging in it. Expert 1662 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Originally posted by mirthfuldragon Originally posted by thor67 My question is why do flip turns at all. In most cases you are slowing yourself down if you are doing a pool swim race. For the time spent perfecting, you could probably increase your swim speed first! Because they look cool. Also, I didn't realize how much air I was taking in at the wall turns - so 1x100 was actually more like 4x25 on 2s rest. The oxygen debt makes the sets a lot harder, and that's going to make me a better swimmer. Run like runners, ride like cyclists, and swim like swimmers. Now if only I could get my butterfly to look decent. . . The 2s I loss per 25M equates to maybe 4 min. loss time over the span of 1.2 miles. This doesn't seem worth it to change my entire swim regimen over in the course of a long course training cycle so I can be miserable in the pool at 5:30 am getting water up my nose. This was my point about focusing to the nth degree on the swimming portion of a tri. I can p/u 4 min. on the bike/run with less effort than the 2s/25m of breathing I do on the wall. (it really isn't that much as the breathing is done in the process of changing directions anywho) Again, I realize I may be on the opposite side of the fence on this one, but it makes sense to me not to kill myself in the pool. I just have to be comfortable for the 1.2 miles, or 2.4. |

Expert 1662 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Originally posted by Jeakins Great swim this morning. I pushed it for the entire distance of freestyle non-stop. 1000 m in 23 min. That's 2m 17s/100 m sustained for 1000m Pretty happy with that. 137/200 m I guess having a fast swim doesn't really help my challenge Question for the experienced members. At the side of the posts you see your post count, a category (beginner, expert, veteran etc.) and stars. What are the stars and what are the thresholds for the different categories? IDK on the stars, it seems they just change as you move along. Speaking of moving along, nice work on the swim time. Where did you start at if you don't mind me asking and how long have you been at it? Kevin |

Expert 1662 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business 200.2 This morning. Beefy. Was able to drag my A out the door this morning and get in my planned 4.6 miler. Question for all, has anyone experienced lightheadedness during their workouts. I've been getting so lightheaded during my runs lately, like a bonk, on half of my runs. doesn't seem to matter what time of day, if I eat prior, or how long I run. I've been running since 2009, completed 5 marathons, so it's not like I'm not aware of nutrition, but this is different, it seems as though it's just happening. Anyone else have anything like this go on before? Edited by kevinbe 2015-01-29 10:33 PM |

Veteran 371 Lincoln, Nebraska | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Lightheaded? Yep. Happened just the other day toward the end of my run. I was going anaerobic, and my fuelling was on the low side. Mostly, its me being fat and not in aerobic running shape yet. Jokingly, a friend told me: "Run til ya puke. Repeat." Sometimes I feel that way. LOL I know its not an answer to your problem, but you aren't alone. I would maybe take a gel (honey stinger...I love honey stinger) on your next run. If you feel the slightest bit of that lightheaded sensation, suck down the gel. Trial and error. -5th Edited by fifthcircle 2015-01-30 9:49 AM |

My friend bailed on the racquetball workshop last night and they required that you bring a partner, so I couldn't go either. Turned out okay though, as I spent the time with my wife at the movies. Nice little mid-week date night. |

Anyone else have anything like this go on before? If this is a new thing, I wonder if it's some kind of virus. In bad health a virus can wipe you out (in good health too if its a bad virus...). But most of us with good health and good immune systems don't even know we have a virus half the time. It's like "Geez, I slept well, why am I so exhausted?' or 'why is my breathing so much harder than usual'. Those things could be nutrition too but it sounds like you have it pretty well figured out in that regard. course if it goes on longer than a week or so, guessing it's not a virus Heading out the door soon to hit family swim with the fam. What this means is that I spend an hour plus playing with my daughter in the kids pool while my wife gets her 2500yds in, then I struggle through my 600yds while they're getting showered and dressed :D |

Nothing too bad to put me out, but it did have me miss working out a few weeks back. This lightheadedness has lasted for a month and a half or so. IDK, I'm just frustrated with it. I've got a 9.5 miler this weekend, with many hills. energy may be at an all time low, but I'm gonna give it a go. Originally posted by kevinbe 200.2 This morning. Beefy. 1941 , Vermont | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Take care with these colds/illnesses. The flu still has me down. Fever broke yesterday mid-morning only to reappear low-grade this morning. Eyeballs hurt to move still and it's day 4! Crazy, I rarely get sick and this one's a doozy. Not to worry, this too shall come to pass but I missed my 10 by 1 (including PT visits). I am in no shape for a CLP... I'll have to rain check that one. Great job everyone! Some excellent numbers being put up! Tomorrow starts February - that much closer to spring!! Woohoo! I can't wait to get in open water! |

Member 3143 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business Just got back from a two hour spin class this morning. Actually, I should say two one hour spin classes back to back, because even though it was billed as a Spin120 class, it really wasn't. Two different instructors, two entirely different formats, two entirely different vibes...thus, two classes. We even took a break in the middle where my HR fell back to recovery zone. I'm counting it as two workouts toward my 400 too because of the differences, so 34 & 35 are in the books. Hope everyone starts feeling better soon! No CLP if you miss goals or workouts for being sick...that's just mot humane! |

Expert 1662 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation Society - Open For Business I threw caution to the wind today and came up with a plan. Uh-oh. I decided instead of running 9.5 tomorrow, I'd split it between 2 days, due to not feeling 100% and not understanding what's going on inside the body. I ran 4.6 today at a 8:27/mi pace, a little faster than my recent long run pace without any sick/dizzy feeling. I think I'm going to up my run tomorrow to a 6.2 miler, because it just sounds cooler that way, depending how I'm feeling at the 2.5 mile mark. Happy training all. Go after it. |

I really liked it for those that like the style. I also tried a flight of 6oz of each of these: Great Divide Hibernation Ale - Was too much like a porter for me Ommegang Tripel Perfection - I'm not sure this brewery know how to make a bad beer. Very good. Stone Quadro Triticale - Not bad, just wasn't completely in my wheel house. Allagash Four - Oh yeah, This I liked. -Snewo |
