I've been a real slacker this week.  Went from on track to missing two days in a row, and tonight I'll have to miss the track making that 3 days.

Went to PT this morning, and the verdict is no running for at least a few weeks... which supposedly includes at least the first of my two 10ks coming up next month I'm trying to figure out if doing the races would really interfere with my therapy or not, though.  I might negotiate my doc's blessing for those two days only.  But, that still means my 3x a week run plan including my track workouts are gonna be a bust.

So, I'm going to have to reexamine my schedule and add in more bike and swim, probably yoga and of course daily PT.  I'll be able to start aquajogging soon, but that'll be it.

I know it's the first step toward making my mechanics so much better and pain-free, but I can't help but be seriously bummed right now.

Sorry to hear that, Mina.  Injuries suck.  Do what you can and come back easy.  Injuries linger +/or get worse if we don't listen to them (personal experience)

x2

Better to get healed up than to force the injury now and make it worse for yourself later!

x3...healing early takes less time than later.

x4 take the time now ... it's worth it in the long run

x 5 - What everyone else said Listen to your body when it's talking to you.

ilucy2 - 2009-01-22 1:15 PM Good morning gang, I have been somewhat silent here, but I am still working out. Yesterday, I did the 2walk/8run thing....that is REALLY hard! I have been going one speed. It is funny, you seem to go at a slower pace, because you know you will need to sustain it for awhile. Which is where the walks come in at, they give you that break. The bad thing, is my body did not want to pick it back up again, it felt like the beginning of a run ickys. The cool thing was I did run faster. I will have to work on that a bit. Today was a bike day. I had a serious case of the lackas today, but once I started riding it got better. In the morning I have another run...YIPPIE!! If that was all I had to do, life would be GREAT!

i find it hard to start running after a walk break too.  But...It's a great way to do intervals.  And I tend to slow my pace when I go long too.

Maybe do 4/1 same ratio of running and walking but perhaps mentally easier as you get walk sooner.

Wow!  As a group we think alike!  I had sushi with hubby after our supposed-to-be-short-and-easy run that ended up hard and long!!   Sushi was perfect, though.....as was the sake!

I like my fish cooked.  My husband likes sushi though   I've tried it.  There is some that I thought was okay.  Just not a craved for item with me.

What's on tap today?  My rest day means my peach is the stair climbing to my office and a trip to the grocery store.

Got my trainer ride in this a.m.  My son is a cast member in a local theater production and I'm working backstage as a cuer.  Tonight is opening night and we're both very excited.  There have been four long dress rehearsals this past week, so we tired, but pumped!  Three shows this weekend and two next.

Morning everyone.

So, swimming today, I hope. ohhhhhhhhhh. Probably some weights and stationary cycle too.

Tired from Karate last night, only slept 6 hours.

Going to try to run at lunch, will make 6 days in a row.

I am taking the weekend off for various trivial pursuits. May get some hiking or snowshoing in. But I will not be checking until Tuesday. Actually, it will be nice to have a weekend without running. After this weekend I got 2 more training runs until my race, so I am hoping to be fresh and ready to get at it again next weekend. I have a 3.5 hour and 4 hour runs planned for the next 2 weekends, man.

EVERYONE HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND. Keep your numbers up if you can, rest if you have to.

Oh, and, good news, finally own to my pre christmas weight of 208. Actually made it through Christmas and into the new year but it bounced up begining of January to 212. Now I just need to keep the slide going down. I have really been eating a lot better the last week, need to stick at it.

Great job on your weight.

A nice break from training sounds refreshing and well deserved.

I recall those 3 and 4 hour runs for IM training I did 4 4 hour runs.

Thanks for the encouragement and well-wishes on the physical therapy and such!

It's hard for me to switch gears since I was using running as my anchor for training (everything else was scheduled around it) but after a few days off my feet just getting into the habit of doing the EASY AND BORING pt exercises, I'll be ready to get back into it this weekend.

So, tonight = PT (may or may not do more)

Tomorrow = Long drainer ride (45-60min) + PT

Sunday = Long swim + PT ... thinking of doing the One Hour Swim with the Masters group as an unofficial entrant at my pool.  Basically you just swim as far as you can in 1hr and your laps and splits are kept track by another participant.  I wish I could always have someone timing for me

Thanks again for being the collective voice of reason, all!  I know PT is necessary and will help and I will be better'n new once I get through it.

So for the next few weeks I'll be biking4beer and swimming4beer Laughing

EDIT: Oh, and to make it official and make me not chicken out, I told Leah that I was going to try the 100 Push Up Challenge this week.  I'll do the initial test tonight (pretty sure I'll be in the 6-10 group) and start Day 1 on Sunday or Monday.  OK, I have to do it now!  Even if one is tough!

Hang in there. I know it's frustrating, look at it this way. You'll have a chance to improve on you swimming and biking. You'll blow them all away once you're nice and healed.

I KNOW. That sucks, you find something you like and seem to be doing good at and then you lose it. Grrrrrrr.

It will get better, and then, just think how strong your bike and swim will be, it will be AWESOME.

Today I had next to zero motivation but went to the Y for a new boot camp type class. It wound up being just what I needed. Not a treadmill, not a bike but a good workout anyway.  The new instructor is a tri coach ~ I actually figured out after 1 minute in the class that he was a tri guy - he made us do lots of running drills and he had shaved legs. In my book, that = triathlete I'll definitely start making that my Fri. morning class. it was a bit slow today b/c he didn't know the levels of the (5) women but we all told him we wanted it harder and less breaks. I think next week I won't be able to move!  This weekend is the usual semi- chaotic schedule of swim, gymnastics, a b-day party.....last weekend the girls and I went to Ma. and Mike stayed behind. He actaully surprised Emily by painting her room yellow which she's been after us about since she could talk. Good Daddy
