anandiheart - 2012-04-20 6:27 PMAnybody know if the run course is shaded? I just went out for a 3 mile in the 85 degree evening. Not pretty, but I got it done.
I am going to say, not a lot of shade.

Did IMCDA last year. There was a mix of full sun and shade throughout the run. Along the lake mostly full sun until the hill. Shade up the hill to the turn around and back down. In town, a fair amount of shade as you wind your way through the streets of CDA.

I learned a valuable lesson today riding the course.  With 9 weeks left, I am not even close when it comes to the bike!  On the plus side, I got off and my legs had no problem moving for a nice short run afterwards.Thank you Mark for guiding us and all the pointers!

Must be "bike lesson" weekend. I learned that I need a new fuel strategy...early into my 102 mile ride, I realized that I'd launched a bike bottle somewhere along the course without realizing it. So, half of my nutrition was AWOL. Thankfully, it was a supported ride so I could live off the course. Wouldn't have been pretty if it had happened last weekend on the same ride. So, nutrition in aero bottle, water in the back? I had planned to do the opposite. Anyone have an idea of how to better secure bike bottles in the saddle cages?

I have two of these mounted behind my saddle.  Haven't lost a bottle yet--it's a pretty snug fit.

I lost a bottle yesterday as well, it wasn't a regular bike bottle though, so I am not surprised.  On a plus note my 13 mile run today was really quite good, went over by about a half, on the downside, a 1000yds into my long swim prior to the run, I was so sick I don't know how I didn't throw up in the pool!  Something is seriously going wrong for me in the water.

No way I'd put nutrition in the front bottle. You might not think it splashes out until you put something sticky in it. I have the xlab wing that you can adjust the tilt on and it works great! Even on the crappy roads of Oklahoma.

Put the cheap metal bottle cages on it. You can bend them to make it a tighter fit.

I have these cages too and the only bottles I've lost have been smaller, cheap-y bottles.  I've never lost my Polar or Camelbak insulated bottles.

Thanks for the suggestions! I was actually using these profile design cages...and lost an insulated Polar bottle...on seriously smooth roads. Still can't figure out how that happened.

I dont know how old your cages are but I was told the key is to replace them when that rubber band starts to get all stretched out. I bought a rear two bottle setup a few weeks ago and no catapulting of bottles at all so far it is a really snug fit.

nothing is stronger than the xlab gorilla cages.  they are pricey, but you'll never have to worry about bottle launching ever again.  i have one behind my saddle that is is completely sideways (horizontal to the ground).  i've ridden on some rough roads and i've never had any launching.

LOVE the water temperature reports!

Thanks for all of the help with my bottle launching issue.  I'll check out the bands on my PD cages (it is relatively new....6mos?) and consider snagging my husband's X-Lab set-up (although that may prove the biggest test of our marriage thus far) for the race.  I appreciate all of the suggestions!

Running the Big Sur International Marathon this weekend.  Looking forward to the mental break from IM training.  Just taking it long and slow...Z1/Z2 all day.

PSA - After racking bikes at T2 the last two years, I saw quite a few bikes with lights (some front, some rear, some both) and a couple with bar end mirrors. These may not be necessary?

Also saw one bento box that some critter had chewed thru to get at whatever was in it, I assume that whatever chewed it's way in did it overnight so you might want to put your food in the morning of the race. The squirrels in the park are definately checking out the bikes.

end of PSA

Sleeveless only....

Here's hoping the current trend keeps it up, the water is a full 3 degrees warmer today at 48.3!  If it would just do that for a few more days and hold til the weekend, I will take the plunge.

The lake is suppose to reach high water mark this weekend. that is one month earlier than last year. Just hope that the sun is out alot till the race.

You and me both!  Especially since I will need all the help I can get, my swim training is turning out to be something of a disaster.
